    A Jurassic Park theory that's been around forever is that the T-rex in The Lost World got its scars from another Rex. But what if other dinos on Site B are responsible? Could it be Spinosaurus, Velociraptor, Allosaurus or something else?

    Well, based on the coloration of the tissue in and around the scars, it does suggest that the wounds were fairly recent, if the skin that grew over "Rexy's" scars are any indication, likely days or maybe a few weeks or a few months earlier?
    IF these were facial bites from another T. rex, then they could have been the result of a battle for territory or the Doe, where the Buck and a rival suitor may have grabbed onto one another's snout in a test of strength and dominance for both the Doe and the territory? The bits are in the right place for known intraspecific facial wounds on Tyrannosaur maxilla.
    A raptor's last, desperate struggle to escape from the Buck's jaws is also very, very likely too.
    There could be another suspect in a skirmish with a Baryonyx near a water source that perhaps the Buck had attempted/successfully predated on, or maybe the Buck got too close to a Baryonyx nest and got wacked by an angry and protective parent?
    A Stegosaurus thagomizer or Trike horns seem to be very, very unlikely, because those are stabbing and poking weapons, and not that great for cutting or slashing, so the wounds might be very inconsistent with those types of weapons.
    Or perhaps the Buck got them not from a fight with another animal, but maybe he had to squeeze his snout into or past something sharp or jagged to retrieve something that he might have been after? What could that have been, who knows there?

  • @guilmon182
    @guilmon182 2 года назад +18

    Given the heavy evidence of intraspecific fighting, and specifically facial biting, in tyrannosaurs, I think it's actually extremely likely that the Doe gave him the scars.

    Klayton your ability to pick out details like this continues to amaze me. My first thought was the T-rex got it from it's mate, because years ago it was thought the females were far more aggressive than the males, and would sometimes do things like this to keep their male mates. Supposedly because of this, males stayed away from females until the needed to mate. That was the idea then, and it's been a long time since I've learned about what was believed to be about these creatures.

I know people hate the San Diego sequence but I don't care, I absolutely loved that part of the movie and see the Rex go full on Godzilla on the city. I hope to see him and his family come back sometime in the future.
    As for the scars I don't know but I'm going with your theory Klayton. It's more likely another T-Rex or a Raptor that caused those scars, either way I'm interested to know more about this incredible animal that honestly deserves way more love.

  • @rexysgamingbro

    Now I don’t know 100% what caused the scars but I think that since they were fresh looking I feel like during the time the Rex’s were not at the nest the Bull Rex May have gotten into a fight with something big like a Baryonyx and it had called it’s May for assistance and after receiving the scars and killing the Dinosaur he and the female may have dragged the body back to the nest (this could also explain why it took so long for them to realize the baby was missing)

  • @TyrannoWright
    @TyrannoWright 2 года назад +4

    I would like to think it was the spinosaurus that gave the Buck its distinguishable scars as a kind of reminder as the one rex who faced it and lived, but of course it was likely from either a stegosaurus hunt or even the raptor tribes (more likely). Otherwise it was some conflict with other male tyrannosaurs, likely trying to bite one another by the mouths in a similar fashion seen in Dinosaur Revolution.

    An Important note so many people don't understand: Female Tyrannosaurs were larger than the males. adult T-rex males are smaller than adult females. Species with this form of sexual dimorphism where the sex based size Often have large females who have higher testosterone counts than the males, which in return makes them bigger, stronger, and more importantly more aggressive than the males. that male's scars, more than likely, are mating scars from the courtship where his mate got too riled up too quick.

    • @rev0568
      @rev0568 2 года назад +1

      An important note on that: Its considered myth or a theory at best. It is far from considered fact that female rexes were larger, and I'm fairly certain that piece of information is rather outdated at this point. However, regardless of size difference, it wouldn't be too surprising for females in general to be more aggressive. Despite that though, those slashes still seem too small and shallow to be from a rex biting the muzzle.

      @@rev0568 Indeed you are right, it was proposed and advocated for a while in the 90's based on two seperate pieces of skeletal anatomy. Firstly that Tyrannosaurus has two skeletal morphs (Or at least did in the 90's, more specimens since then have made these less distinctive) one robust and the other gracile (Which anytime you encounter two morphs gender is alwalys an obvious hypothesis), and Secondly that notion that modern Crocodilians have an extra tail chevron in males for anchoring their genitalia.
      Both these ideas ran into problems though, Sue for instance the biggest and most robust Tyrannosaurus until the recent Scotty was a Robust morph with an extra tail Chevron (So using this line of thinking male in fact), then the Tail Chevron validity was questioned for living Crocodilians much less Dinosaurs (www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0944200605000474?via%3Dihub) and was all but eliminated when the first accurate gendering of a Tyrannosaurus came with B-Rex and Mary Schweitzer work on proteins and medulary tissue.

    Hey Klayton - I know I've said this before in a comment on another video but I am saying it again -- the buck rex from The Lost World is my all time favorite. Just love the design - the skin pattern, coloration and the features (the thicker brow ridges).
    I think it's hard to pin down what the exact source of those scars could be. In my view the designers didnt consider a source - it was just a means to distinguish this rex from the female.
    Just to add to the possibilities however - the source of the scarring may even have been something less grand - maybe it came from a gallimimus hunt - it would have made a desperate bid for freedom as the jaws of the buck closed in around the base of its neck. Gallimimus does have rather long forelimbs and sharp claws --
    The stan winston male rex - mold wise is just the female t-rex with neck, brow and scarring alterations - thats what Paul Mejias (one of the artists who worked on the franchise told me back in 2005/2006).

    Just a quick though for a video idea, I’ve been listening through TLW motion picture soundtrack and there are several pieces used which aren’t heard in the film, most notably one called ‘the trek’. I seem to remember a while ago you describing a potential deleted scene in which Ludlow and Roland go hunting for the bull Rex towards the climax of the original ending for the film. Listening to this track, I can really picture it fitting with them tracking the Rex, maybe something you could look into. P.s. love your videos

    It could possibly have been a Pteranodon. Ingen cloned quite a few and were known to have lived in the same region of Tyrannosaur nesting sites, as seen in the epilogue. What could have happened was that a Pterosaur could have attempted to steal the baby rex (similar to modern harpy eagles with caimans) and was struck by the rex. More proof of this could be that the scars don’t appear to be deep, and slashing from the hooked talons of the Pteranodon could create curved scars, as seen in the Bull rex. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk!

    Yeah, it could’ve been a velociraptor. Speaking of which, there was going to be a scene in The Lost World where the T-Rex and Velociraptor fight in the Rex nest but got cut from the final film.

    Another plausible suggestion for how the rex got it's scars is the frill of a triceratops given that it has spikes on the sides, it would explain why the wound is so uniform and go across the face, probably in a attempt to bite the animal the trike swings it's head to block the bite hitting the rex with the side of it's frill.

    Similar to the GvK intro, JWD should show various shots of dino scenes from the previous films in different angles, old photos of the first ever Tyrannosaur skull and Giganotosaur skull from real life, some dino fossils, some people narrating stuff about dinosaurs relating to genetics, money, extinction etc, Ian Malcolm narrates most of the opening intro, while John Hammond (voiced by someone who sounds like Richard Attenborough) talks to the InGen Board about his parks and also a photo of Simon Masrani shaking hands with an InGen official to represent him buying the company (film editors should be able to create an Irrfan Khan model and design it like Masrani. Shots of Dr Henry Wu in a lab, DNA strands flashing across the screen, photographs of Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler discovering footprints of giant theropods engaging in battle during the early 2000s (Dominion will finally reveal to them who those theropod footprints belonged to), footage of the Iron Analyser discovering Mosasaurus DNA, footage of Lewis Dodgson handing money to an unknown person to basically steal InGen’s research info, a camera footage showing baby Rexy hatching out of an egg then we hear John Hammond’s voice saying, “welcome to the world little girl, one day you’ll rule the Earth like a victorious queen” (Hammond says this as a figure of speech, not an actual intention that she’s going to be on the mainland as free-roaming although Dominion may make his figure of speech come true). Then we hear booming footsteps echoing, we hear Rexy growling, then we hear an even louder footstep, and we hear Giga growling with a sinister huffing sound similar to Indominus. Then the intro ends with the Dominion logo shining in silver and when it fades to black, we hear a mixture of Rexy and Giga roaring faintly. The music for most of the intro should be this:

    Something interesting. Its also possible the islands herbivores could of inflicted those wounds. Thinking stegosaurus, since plenty of those were around. The scar seem fresher than Rexy's so can pin-point it to either of those creatures. or maybe we come across some other super duper secret ingen's list that had Therizinosaurus.

  • @robsantorobass
    @robsantorobass 2 года назад

    I agree with you that it very well could have been from one of the Velociraptors. With how straight the cuts look and what animals were documented on the island at that time. Plus also consider how some of TLW promo photos are with the raptors around the baby and the two parent Rex’s. May not be 100% confirmed, but all that considered it’s definitely a solid guess.
    Plus, the scars look relatively fresh. Not 20+ years old like Rexy’s but they’re still red implying that it could have happened somewhat recent from when we saw the Buck on screen.

    In my Mass Effect remake of Jurassic Park, PaleoPrime, i plan to have Rexy the Tyrannosaurus scarred from a fight with 2 Allosaurus in the 2nd act then Utahraptor in the end. In the sequel regarding the parent T-Rexes, well... I would say predator prey relationships were involved

    Raptor makes perfect sense to me, 3 straight down I was thinking one in it's mouth desperately trying to stop its fate from happening.
    Keeps your mind open to how each species reacted and interacted.
    We already know how deadly and insane raptors are.
    Could have even happened over one of the T Rex young being ambushed and potentially killed, so many plausible routes you could take with this I love it!

  • @uohhhhhh69

    Given how reckless the Tiger tribe raptors are, I can see them getting into scraps with the Buck. Especially if the Buck were young.

  • @Michael141-
    @Michael141- 2 года назад

    We also need to know that in JP1 the last remaining raptor even started clawing and biting at Rexy’s face while in her jaws - ofc this all stopped when she chomped down on the raptor and then slammed her into a dinosaur skeleton in the visitor center. If you look very closely you’ll see the raptor attacking Rexy’s face, fighting until the bitter end, and leaving some wounds there. It’s possible that something similar happened to the male tyrannosaur in JP2. Who knows?? Still, it’s on the table unless we get more information on this particular topic.

    I'm down with going for 3 personal ways the Bull came in possession with its scars
    1. Perhaps from another Rex due to mating rights
    2. The Striped Raptors may have tried to enter the Rexes territory looking for food,attempting to take out any young Tyrannosaurs before the grew up or even trying to steal meats from one of there fresh kills
    3. Perhaps while it was hunting what ever it wanted to kill didn't want to got down without a fight like say a Stegosaurs thagomizer or Trikes horn that was going for the eye but missed its mark
    4. A large theropod with long-gated arms with Sharp claws like Allosaurus was searching for food or even thought of going towards the nest to attack there offspring

    The raptors do seem like the most likely candidates based on the positions and shape of the scars. Both species are territorial and I'm sure conflicts happened from time to time.

  • @mrb6088
    @mrb6088 2 года назад

    I do think the Raptor theory holds some ground given that the fight scene from the first movie provides three key points of information.
    1) As said in the video the fact that the raptors can leave scars which can last a long time.
    2) When pressed (such as fighting over food) Raptors may engage with a Rex rather than flee
    And 3) Even when surrounded and attacked by a group of Raptors the Rex comes out triumphant with only a few scars.
    Compared to other Rex fights the Raptor one was a quick and simple win for the Rex. Whereas I feel the Bull would likely have sustained a few more scars from fighting other large Carnos. So I'm sold on this theory tbh.

  • @Criminallynegative
    @Criminallynegative 2 года назад

    It could be from the bull biting something with spikes (so another dinosaur) or something metal (making sharp edges that cut around the mouth)
