- This week I decided to rank all the chapters from Half-Life 1 using a tier list. Just wanted to do something a little different to see if you guys like this sort of content too! If you do, please let me know in the comments. I'm always open for any sort of feedback.

>on a rail in d tier
>interloper in b tier
what?
Interloper is an under-hated chapter
Interloper is such hot fucking garbage, shit makes on a rail look like god developed it himself
@@lukerp1581 its not that bad. On a rail is boring as fuck theres no shit to do
@@ArcendL for me it was difficult bc I went there with like 16 hp or something and also at the time I forgot that I could save my game
I hate to be the On A Rail defender but I think it has the potential to be a good chapter, not a masterpiece by any means but certainly one with more merit than it gets. It's the kind of level where you're encouraged to get through as fast as possible, and the long corridors and frequent stops to open gates make that feel like a slog, but if you take your time to explore and do optional stuff it really can be enjoyable.
The only flaw of On a Rail was those shooting signs that didn't happen anywhere else in the game. Overall a great chapter.
do any of the chapters really belong in d tier? does everything have to be sorted in every rank? otherwise, I wouldn't even put xen below c tier.
@@aruan7sp it is a great chapter, and feels like old close combat horror game
I'm a strong on a rail defender, I love it

Finally, LambdaGeneration ran out of content
I enjoy On A Rail - it's got lots of soldier battles and once you learn the route it's actually quite fun. Residue Processing, on the other hand, is deeply tedious. And Xen is so unfleshed out that I often quit playing once I get to it - it's like a different game that isn't nearly as good just bolted on the end.
Great idea for a video! Really enjoyed it.
On a rail gets too much hate, it is much better than any levels in Xen.
I think Black Mesa Inbound deserves better, it might be boring for someone who wants to kick ass instantly but on its release it was surprising, having Doom and Doom-clones (Amazing games) with an instant start with powerful music and a gun already on hand.
Black Mesa Inbound and Anomalous Materials were different, it gets you into this narrative and cohesive experience.
Questionable ethics and lambda core are my favorite chapters
You got good taste
My personal favorite is Forget About Freeman
My most favorite action packed part of half life
Here's a video idea.
Ranking ALL HALF-LIFE Mods
Would be interesting to see you do a list not only for the chapters for Half Life 2 but also for Black Mesa and compare the levels to their original counterparts. Hell yeah :)
Putting “residue processing” above “on a rail” is a crime man… “residue processing” is the worst HL chapter, actually in my opinion it’s the worst chapter in the whole HL franchise…
nah xen is worst
I give an s for We've Got Hostiles, because it's the first time you see the outside and it is afternoon, the next time you get to see the outside is late at night, it gives you the feeling that you have been trapped underground for almost a day, and shit escelates too quickly since the last day.
also it’s fun to destroy the ospreys
On a Rail feels like an old, road movie, it's a classic A to B metaphore, and it rewards you at the end of the chapter. But the underground rail system is full of traps, and the rocket you launch doesn't gmake any difference, and thanks to this you understand that it is impossible to controll such a disaster with a single rocket.
Gonarch’s Lair was by far my least favourite chapter, the amount of glitches in that chapter is insane.
My favourite would probably be Surface Tension even though I found it very hard it was still really cool and fun to play.
All Half-Life mods I like it.
Mostly recommended for me, play it on PC only.
The best tier list is one well thought out and when the person ranking it, lists out the pros and cons of whatever they're ranking. For instance, On A Rail. The pros could maybe be the puzzle solving and the cons be the length and/or difficulty.
on a rail is really overhated. Yea in the first playthrough it really is boring and confusing but after the first the map and you get the hang of it it really is a fun chapter. I enjoy playing on rail more every time I play half life.
My ranking, from best to worst:
1. Surface Tension
2. Office Complex
3. Lambda Core
4. Blast Pit
5. Nihilanth
6. Xen
7. On a Rail
8. Questionable Ethics
9. "We've Got Hostiles!"
10. Power Up
11. "Forget About Freeman!"
12. Gonarch's Lair
13. Interloper
14. Apprehension
15. Unforeseen Consequences
16. Residue Processing
17. Anomalous Materials
18. Black Mesa Inbound
Forget about Freeman is literally just surface tension but shorter
Same in the top 10 except the final boss
Surface Tension was the highlight
The 2 and 3 chapter only are higher on the list.
Y'know... a half-life fan understands that both first chapters are slow-paced, world building chapter, a game enthusiast understands that these two chapters are revolutionary. Also why is Interloper higher? Wtf
Ok I don’t hate on a rail… I also don’t hate xen. But oh my god We’ve got hostiles is easily the best in my opinion.
You start off by getting the smg which is along with the shotgun the most reliable damage dealers you have and then there’s the military trying to kill your twist. There’s loads of really fun battle arenas that give you the chance to use the new smg in diferent scenarios and it also teaches you about the marines being able to throw grenades in a space where you are likely not going to get hit by them. All around spectacular chapter
Now do Half Life mods tier list, don't need to do a lot of them, just do most popular one's that are at least sort of story focused, like Echoes, Field Intensity, Azure Sheep etc.
I have a feeling if I made that tier list I'd get a flack for only putting Echoes on S tier while the rest are emmmm
... Questionable 😅
he's our littloe comedian
You should really start uploading your videos in 60fps if you could. Especially in the videos about OG HL1, as one of the redeeming factors of that game is its fluidity. Seeing jittery 30fps in HL1 defers all the way back to 2009 RUclips and "Bandicam" white lettering overlaid over gameplay videos
the intro deservers a reward
Personally, I loved On a Rail, most likely because of the sven coop 3.0 version where I played it a lot.
I love most of the chapters for HL1, each has its unique atmosphere of certain events taking place in it, my most favorite ones are where we have friendly npcs on several maps.
And to make a small cooperation between it and Black Mesa, Black Mesa's On a Rail was so short and boring, levels cut and othe things. In addition to that, HL1's gornach's lair is better for me, not to mention that they've literary cut the one Xen map I loved in HL1, from "Interloper" chapter, but in general Black Mesa Xen is better than HL1 Xen.
I agree with what that black mesa inbound seems long I wish there was an option to skip it. But adding the ending and anomalous materials is really dumb. The most interesting levels that get you excited or intrigued for what’s happening in the future gameplay and the ending where your talking to Gman and wonder what’s happened to the ones you saved and what going to happen now. Like just because there’s no music I mean do you want the key jingling in the background? (Sorry if that sounds rude).
Oh it's the radio dude from entropy zero 2
the game's design falls apart so much for me halfway through
Im not sure what you mean by halfway through but assuming that you mean it literally that would place around residue processing, residue processing sucks no doubt but the chapters after it are the 4 best chapters of the game, questionable ethics, surface tension, forget about freeman, and lambda core, most people hate them because of the hecu and grunts and just savescum through without any sort of actual plan, that was me once and it made the combat sections sooo painful, just learn how to be a little more tactical and use more of your weapons, try watching leadheads video "why half lfie is so unforgiving" it helped me out a bunch, also use really heavy weapons against the alien grunts. If your talking about xen (which isnt even close to half way through), you are completely right.
No! I do not play Half-Life every 2 weeks…it is more like 2½ weeks.
WAIT WHAT! BLACK MESA INBOUND IS THE BEST CHAPTER IN THE ENTIRE GAME! IT FEATURES BARNEY CALHOUN AND G-MAN AND...a tram? _Possibly only played it twice...maybe thrice._
Anamolous Materials has a pretty good track. Well, you can step into the Anti-Mass Spectrometre.
Yeah, Unforseen Consequences is fine, I enjoy it, nothing much to say.
I like the secrets and story telling in Office Complex, is good, is good, quite a simple chapter.
Love We've Got Hostiles, I was genuinely shocked when the H.E.C.U was not there to help.
Scooter is the best Half-Life character, though, I think they added too many, it started getting a annoying after a while...still good design though.
The circular nature of Blast Pit is quite a good gameplay change, I like it.
Power Up...kind of forgettable...the gargantua is cool the first time but after having played the game several times is a bit boring. IT FEATURES MY FAVOURITE MAP THOUGH! The map with the H.E.C.U assault and a bunch of different places of cover is just great!
I do enjoy On A Rail, even my first time playing it was fun…_besides the fact that those signs rotate the wrong way when you shoot them._ I did pretty much know where to go my first time...unfortunately I missed that bit with the screaming people.
I like Aprehension because of the Black Ops, fun to fight...not in Opposing Force where there are just too many of them though.
I did not mind Residue Processing, it was fun to run around the back end of Black Mesa, the convenyor belts are a bit annoying when you want to run against them. I oft do forget where I am going.
Love Questionable Ethics, I love running around and shooting the H.E.C.Us. Getting the Tau Cannon is just great.
Surface Tension, BEST CHAPTER IN THE GAME! I WILL DEFEND IT AT ANY COST! I REPLAY IT THE MOST OUT OF ANY CHAPTER!
I dislike the first map of Forget About Freeman, kind of just enemy spam and the first time I ran through it I did not even notice the path to the left. I am impartial to the rest of it.
Lambda(Generation) Core, still impartial...it is fine, the teleportation is neat but a bit annoying when I forget which teleporter is which, Really annoying when I accidently get teleported to Counter-Strike.
Xen (the chapter) is not good, I do like some of the gimmicks but they are just gimmicks. (Not "like" as I enjoy them but more of thing they are good ideas...just not executed well)
Gonarch was just too long, I think it is meant to take some of your ammo away but it takes too much...yeah, what you said.
I did like Interloper, not great but it is passable, I do replay it sometimes.
Had to cheat the first time I played Nihilanth, I just got teleported and wasted all my ammunition on trying to shoot him because I was thick...I did learn how to use cheats so that was good. Replaying it, I still dislike the teleportation because it gets in the way and I really just want to kill it...good gimmick though, I feel if they had more time they could have improved it.
Actually, no, END GAME IS THE BEST CHAPTER! FEATURES THE...one moment, how do you bold on RUclips? *BEST VOICE ACTOR IN ALL OF HΛLF-LIFE, I TRY TO MIMIC HIS VOICE SO OFTEN, I LOVE IT!*
Hazard Course is the best tutorial I have ever played in a game, it fits in the world, introduces the mechanics, and just is fun. I replay it often for some reason.
Wow, this was long! I am genuinely sorry!
Do showcase about half life 2 mod and skins
4:49 I hope that didn’t happen on your birthday Robo lol
Interloper is always the worse.
I do like On a Rail, or at least more than Residue Processing
First off, On a Rail is far more linear than what it seems
Second, On a Rail is very important story wise, if Half Life was divided in three chapters, On a Rail is the one that closes the first chapter
Third, On a Rail doesn't force you to play by its rules, like you said, you can just walk and do it on your own pace, it's a certain flexibility that isn't present in most chapters
Where is Uplink bro?
I could never really bring myself to hate on a rail. Can't really say I like it either.
I hate Residue Processing. I got stuck on it cuz I didn’t have a pistol, so I had to start the WHOLE game over!
came out 2 mins ago moment
Hell yeah, cannot decide my favorite chapter. I will watch the video now like a normal person.
Also, yeah On a Rail is ass juice.
wait didn't you voice the radio operator(?) from Entropy Zero: 2?
He did indeed
But I like "on a rail "! in my mind it is B...
when I played for the first time in 2000, all the chapters seemed S to me! 😉
Black Mesa Inbound, with NO GAMEPLAY, is better than On A Rail and Xen?
Yes
idc if im second or first but i love ur videos
Oof and Awe
Where is Uplink?!
Surface Tension is my favorite
Apprehension is my least favorite
I HATE interloper first playing o
Is so hard
CHAPP-TERRRR
I disagree on some of your choices but I absolutely agree that I hate obs.
Has anyone ever told you that you look like the chess player Richard Rapport? Also, your face being so close makes me uncomfortable to the point where I have to watch this without full screen.
Feels like it’s a some type of a trend to shit on Xen, to be fair Xen cant to below B tier, it was so amazing back then in my opinion. It can’t go below residue processing especially 🤷🏼♂️ all of the Xen chapter actually cant go below B tier, I remember back in time it felt very creepy and actually special
👍
am i the only one who likes on a rail?
On the rail in the original half-life is dogshit
no it isnt
@@Dave-wt9cl yes it is
@@iammiller5478 explain how its dogshit
@@Dave-wt9cl I have better things to do
@@iammiller5478 you havent even played half life 1 have you? 🤣
The XEN chapters are so underrated, the first chapter is bad, but the rest is just mid, but people treat it as the worst thing ever, same thing whit on a rail, and what do people like? the stupid train ride.
Interloper is my favorite chapter.
