One of the few recently released guitars that I think looks great and sounds interesting on paper. Glad you did us a solid with this review!
Currently waiting for this exact model to arrive ! Great video thanks !
I play clean and this review was such a pleasure to listen to. No shredding. Tasty licks. Keep up the good work.
That is great John. That single-coil sound may not be the real thing but it still sounds terrific.
I love my Pacifica, so I am biased in favour of Yamaha (love my THR10c amp, too). This is its own look and sound in the SG style and she's a beauty. Love that finish, too. Great demo, John!
That's a cracking looking guitar. In my experience every instrument I've ever played from Yamaha was at least very good if not great, including drums and keyboard. Great vid John and of course excellent playing!
Best sounding neck pick up I’ve heard lately 👍
Choices, choices...fun to have those options!
Famous last words. Wow I think it's going to be a keeper.
Looks a million times better than that SG in my view, sounds great too, cant beat Yamaha quality, that guitar will sound the same in 20 years.
True, the best guitars to learn, but also to play on a gig!
Thanks for the review. I've been thinking about getting a Revstar, but a couple of guitars need to go first.
The Revstar looks and sounds like a keeper to me!
Love Yamaha gear, always top quality and reliable.
I’d love to try one with the P90 pickups. Lovely looking guitar. 🤘
Lovely guitar, always wanted one, might have to treat myself 👍
Brilliant John the residential bass player
This coming from a newbie, I only just recently picked up one of these revstars. And the exact same color. She is a absolute beauty. And hella light. Means she will be comfortable to practice with
My next purchase is either a Epiphone SG or Yamaha Revstar.
I do quite fancy trying the Yamaha and think it looks and sounds great.
Top review as always John, if you do think of parting with the Revstar I would definitely be interested 😉
Great looking guitar and I love the satin neck
Cheers Mike. Hope you're well, mate!
Thanks, great review! Yamaha never have a problem with knocking it out of the park at any price. However, I confidently predict that the SG will be granted status to remain…
I do enjoy the unboxing ditty! I'm liking the look of this new guitar, looks better than that ridiculous Gibson Theodore...not a fan of that shape at all!
Thats a stunning looking colour John, Ive been thinking of checking one of the Revstar's out myself and your video is not helping my wallet ;)
Uh Oh... Big Dilemma for The JR....I know which one I would keep for sure.
But I can't wait to see your choice??.... Ahh the Anticipation.
Thanks for another fun and informative episode Boss.
I have the flash green. I also have an old revstar. They are amazing guitars
Hi John .. I was looking forward to your review on the Revstar guitar.. I have got on order the P90 standard in sunset burst .. Aesthetically I just love the look .. an important thing with me .. but the reviews are excellent .. I also love the look of the Element Neon yellow .. I just maybe extravagant.. Im looking forward to your full review .. but correct me if I'm wrong .. but u weren't as enthusiastic as I expected initially.. ????
Another vote for the revstar here. Looks better and sounds better than the Epi.
Looks like wine red colour.. i have a charvel from the 80s in exact same wine red, it's beautiful.
Love the spitfire t shirt John
From Leo: This seems like a really good guitar. No fancy tricks, just a well executed, all around guitar. It probably balances better than and SG. The colour is a lot like a Ford I really liked. I can see your dilemma about making a choice.
Cheers John! I loved the sound (and look) of that guitar. The highpass filter on the bridge sounded very telecaster like on the bridge p/u. Did it sound that way in the room?
I have always loved Yamaha'san SG 200 then an SG1000S, 4 hsh 2 ssh budget model pacificas and 1 beauty i dont remember the series but mahogany body vintage yellow flamed maple cap! with 2 humbuckers and a trem that had spring steel saddles those pickups were amazing! as were the 1000S! but they are quality way above there price point, the craftmanship 2nd to none as is the finish, the necks are some of the best i prefer chunky, but though not LP 59 still a handfull! the old SG 2000's were heavy and had the brass sustain plate under the bridge the 1000s didnt that coupled with the the heel positioned strap button made the neck dive a prob! the Revstar sorts out all the faults of the old SG format i loved and made an even better guitar!
Yamaha made some real high end stuff in late 70s early 80s !
Looks like you'll be able to open your own guitar shop soon ;)
I know they are different guitars but I was wondering this or one of the Sire,I narrowed it down to these guitars, thanks John
Cool guitar! (I would also be preferring a more translucent finish...maybe a fade of some sort). Very nice sounds. Very articulate and clear sounding. (Here, I noticed that you made a point of muting your "room mic" when playing through the Positive Grid for the sound samples. Did that help reduce the perceived bassy sound that I had felt the Epi had? I'm really curious. THX!) That "High Pass" "Dry Switch" thing does make a passable single coil-ish sound (with maybe less volume drop?) Sound wise...I'd personally be picking this over the SG (but I can't play them side-by-side, which would be a huge factor for me to figure out which I preferred. Good luck with your decision making process!) (I did notice that a distributor here in the States does have a Flamed top with a fade finish for a couple of hundred dollars more. Wraptail bridge & fancier neck inlays with VH5 pickups vs VH3 listed in the "Element" model. I wonder if that means they are "hotter"?)
I also want one with a Natural finish :) Best Regards and Best Wishes!
I didn't even know this model came in this wine red color, no US sites advertise it. I was considering the black and white, but this looks great. Wonder when it will be available..
👍🏻👍🏻
Thnx for the video John. Sadly I can't forgive the lack of natural finishes and the stripe. Why no P90's on the entry level. 😕
Keep 'em both....
Thank you! Would you mind to review the Epiphone 61 Les Paul SG. I just got it and I love it. What are your thoughts?
I think Chris buck has made a few people give this guitar another look ,
I'd take the Revstar over the SG
I see that has already has alnico pickups so thats good
Looks and sounds excellent and maybe a wee bit more versatile than the SG !! 😃
Sounded fantastic. That fretboard looks really, really dry.
I get how that looks in the video, but in the flesh, it's not. The camera *does* lie sometimes, I suppose.
Gosh you may even grow to like the PRS birds.
Not going to happen 🤣👍
Well well well, after the fairly large slagging line 6 took last evening, they have just re released the dl4delay mk ll,just watched an Anderson's vid on it and it was getting fine remarks.some of their(line 6) stuff is crap especially the customer non service.l quite like this guitar.
Is this relevant to a video about Yamaha’s new guitar? I haven’t seen the Anderton’s videos you mention but I’ve never had a problem with their customer service.
@@iannicholls7476 it was line 6 customer service as discussed on John Robson's Fri night podcast last evening.john and most folk had nothing good to day about line 6 customer service.l have no probs with Andertons.it was just a coincidence.
Fair enough. I don’t usually listen to the Friday night chinwag so I missed that.
Beautiful guitar, but I have to say the tones were not great for me. Except for the British 30, that tone rocked!
WoW there isn't any bag included?
Anyone know what case will work for the Revstar?
Great health news yesterday John, I love the Revstar the selection of tonal qualities is great , I just think the Yamaha is a better investment
On second thought, the REVSTAR sounds rather anemic. Hope you return and get your quid.
Looks crispy, however i don't like the headstock. I'd much rather see something more classic.
So John, do the Revstar and SG make for a comparison video?
Watch this space 😀👍
@@JRobsonGuitar Yey! Look forward to that! 😊😊
Yamaha are great well made guitars, but most of them just don't excite me. Missing the X factor. Now if we were talking an SG2000 or a Ty Tabor or a Pacifica 1200 series that's a different matter altogether
Yamaha revstar or john robson custom john?
Blonde wins every time!
Definitely it looks an amazing guitar for the money. I know they are very different guitars but, in terms of build quality, which one would you say is better built, Sire Larry Carlton S7, this one, or it's a tie?
I'd struggle to say which is better, if I'm honest.
@@JRobsonGuitar good to know, so both are great guitars! Thanks Jhon!
Which one did you keep??
Revstar vs SG? Revstar.
Revstar vs Les Paul? Les Paul
Neither the SG, nor the Revstar... dump Blondie....just joking!!! The Revstar is crackin, but I am more partial to the SG.
Don´t want to be a smart ass here, but to cut all guitar gas and keep things simple: wanna play metal and rock? Buy an LTD EC-1000 or anything from their 1000 range. Wanna play only metal on a budget? Buy a Jackson JS32 they are great for the price(now everything has gone up), good pickups for a cheap guitar and a lovely neck (better than Ibanez). Wanna have a great all rounder? Buy a Yamaha Pacifica 311H. Why i am saying this? Well i had Gibson's, i had PRS i had ibanez..... Now i have all the 3 above mentioned guitars and i am fully covered for very cheap (LTD and Pacifica bought -60% second hand).
That Pacifica 311H is a superb guitar 👍
@@JRobsonGuitar absolutely, Thanks John for understanding my point :)
Get rid of the Epiphone. Yamahas are much better made.
Bye bye Epiphone
Had a yamaha element for about 2 months could not vibe with it. And got me my 3rd Telecaster. No need to look anymore at guitars. I always go back to my Telecaster or my SG.
Does it feel like an SG where everything is shifted leftwards ?
Not at all 👍
