I returned from a trip to Andertons this morning where I received possibly the best customer service I have ever experienced in a guitar store, or any store to be honest. Picked up a Yamaha A1M acoustic about two years ago, and absolutely love it. Mahogany body with rosewood neck and fingerboard. You can get rosewood back and sides, too, but I chose not to.
I hate that it's made in China....but you can't tell one bit. The neck feels almost identical to my '94 MIM Strat, as far as smooth, comfy playability & QC. I wouldn't hesitate in buying a Revstar. In fact, I've been eyeballing them myself for about year now. I've been a fan of everything that Yamaha makes for as long as I can remember, though. They make great stuff.

I really dug the ec 256 for the price, I ended up trading it because I didn't like the stock pickups
The ltd house pickups are OK, just kind of bland and sterile but they sound good with pedals
The really annoying thing was the cavities weren't shielded which made alot of ambient noise, and the truss rod on mine was very sensitive and needed frequent adjustments
Again for the money it makes an excellent player guitar I'm just a little picky

Because Yamaha are such a Large company they are occasionally able to sell products at a loss and absorb the cost

The Starcaster is fantastic (the Affinity and Classic Vibe with passive pups sound better imho); Fender should make a proper one instead of having them only under the Squier brand

While the other guitars still look good, it seems like Squire have upped there game with these two. I did like the way they considered what function the switches of the Jaguar would do rather than just copy the wiring design from the original design which features single coil pickups. The fact that both have roasted necks just gives me a quality feel for the price range.

i would probably get a revstar if they had put at least one out that had a more modern bridge rather than a t.o.m. style bridge
