Hey Cindy. The enemy of sugar is moisture. If you empty your sugar into jars and put lids on,? Itll stay good...never put an oxygen absorber in with it. Turns it into cement. Sugar won't go bad....if you have a jar sealer? Even better.
@@cindysplace if I was keeping it over a year? I'd put sugar in jar..with a coffee filter over top..put lid on. Coffee filter would help stop the jar sealer from sucking granules of sugar up into its self. Thats all you'd need.
I'd not take them higher then 200F ..do 1 jar as a tester. Slap lid on after pulling jar from oven. I know our canning jars can take the heat. .others? I'd have to do a tester.🌻
Have you ever dry canned pasta? If so, at what temp and for how long for half gallons? Also, I heard you shouldn't dry can whole grain stuff (rice, crackers, flour, hulled barley, etc) due to too much oil in the hull. The oil will turn rancid....have you heard this? I would hate to be stuck with only white rice, flour etc. Thanks!!
surretha no.. im sorry. i've never tried. ask " the google".. pehaps do up a pint jar first.. see how it goes? leave it in pantry a few weeks then use that for grinding.. see if you like results.. if seal stayed... i've not ever done them.. let me know if you try and what your findings are please.. could be useful to other viewers as well. . thanks for stopping in .
Hello, first time watching. You both did great, we do need some laughter nowdays along with learning. Now I can't wait to try. I have a question, this kills them and their eggs but then do we eat them? Still better than eating them alive and eggs hatching but gross. With this I don't think ignorance is bliss. hi lydia :-D thanks for your comment and visit. people have become so distant from our own foods in society... years back grandma's KNEW dry goods needed putting up and why.. today? not so much. the gov't's in usa and canada allow a certain percentage of bugs in mills.. it's IMPOSSIBLE to not have them no matter how CLEAN the facility is. they allow SAFE numbers... to me? safe numbers are zero..lol... dry canning does this AND seals to keep the contents weevil evil free. yes.. kills them..and yes..its gross..especially when we've no idea how long that products been exposed in the travel and store shelving. comes into the house now? it's left in my way till im forced to just dry can it already LOL

i've heard ppl say 5 plus years.. i've also known a few to say 2 yrs for best results for flour. me? i have no idea as to the true pushing length of time? as my panty is mainly revolving around a 12 month use.. rotating out and in. not often i'll find something older then 2 yrs. so far i've not ever had an issue with the quality of the dried good. questions are good.. thanks for stopping by

Hey Wanda. I always have done my quarts 200F 1 hour to 1.5 hrs. Now pints? Have to be honest Wanda.. I have never done pints.. Cant see it not working. Try for 1 hour at 200F. Now you have me wondering about doing mine in pints... perfect size for fast use eh?
Another great idea for canning dry goods so they can keep for a long time. I prefer the old fashioned rolled oats too. Gotta got rid of those weevil evils. 😊
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MS MARY :-D... for sugar? sugar can't go bad.. however if you put an oxygen absorb er in with it? it turns sugar into cement. what i do for lots of sugar opened? since moisture is sugars enemy? i put into my big jars.. place a coffee filter over the top and tuck inside around edges.. then place my lid on.. then use my lid sealer.. the coffee filter prevents the small grains of sugar from being sucked up into the food saver. voila.. sealed and safe from moisture.

Robert? i've personally? never done them.. i seen your question in the line up yesterday so did a bit of poking around to find out for you. apparently many do/have. was just the one person that mentioned quick oats and stated they may break down faster? so...me personally? id do up a quart jar and put into pantry and leave that one 2 yrs....the others? use up within the year...keep an eye on your tester..mean time your still on a 1 yr rotation..so you are canning it and using it.. end of the two years? open that jar and compare it to fresh.. sorry.. best i can offer..it's how i would test it if i were doing it for my own pantry.

( i hate that tho as then i have to bring it to room temp before most of my baking can start. i'd rather a wee bit of dead eggs.. then an infestation.

It's so much easier to just vacuum seal the jars. Then, no need to hear the oven for a long time. Just don't vacuum sugar, it makes it hard. Hope this helps.
i do put lids in oven for the last 15 mins.. it's only 200F so doesn't ruin the gum.. sometimes i boil then allow to air dry a few hours prior to using.. MUST BE DRY.
The sealer? Works perfectly for sucking out the air and sealing. HEATING at 200 does 2 things..kills eggs and adult no no's...and helps create a vacume seal. If your confident you've no tenant's be they adult or egg..by all means vacume seal. 👍

Totally considered today as a Rebel canning process.. .. good job it's not safe.. since our great great grannies used this method lol. all we are really doing? is canning ingredients with less then 10 percent moisture. the 200F heat for the time period? kills the evil weevils. the caping with lid while hot? seals the jar.. preventing NEW air to contaminate the contents. it does not in any way remove the air from the jar we've sealed.. thats another reason to fill product to the extreme top of the jars. i will use usda as a GUIDE LINE and research. if they have no study's to back a claim? then i follow the wise grannies from yesteryear.. often the govt? doesn't want us to know we can preserve grains, dairy as well as other foods. a control thing.. but thats another video lol
Ok, just a little grossed out, but just because we don't think about them, doesn't mean they aren't there. This is a sure fired way to make sure there is no live ones.... Take care...
oh ken.. i researched the amount percentage allowed by gov't... and even tho it's a small percentage? just takes one to ruin our food right? this.. guarantee's our investment is useful :-D

yes for pasta. 200 as a rule i believe.. 1.5 to 2 hours in half gallons 1 hr in quarts. i can rice without issues. as well as many flours.

How long to do the cornmeal in pint jars? And what would the oven temperature be and how long to leave them in the oven? Thank you

20 to 25 yrs if stored in a cool dry location. i don't keep things that long.. depends on your needs and what your storing for ?

It's not drying tho.. its just heating content enough to kill evil weevils and create a vacuume. Mines good. 👍🏼

Does this qualify as rebel canning, or is this a USDA-approved thing?
Totally considered today as a Rebel canning process.. .. good job it's not safe.. since our great great grannies used this method lol. all we are really doing? is canning ingredients with less then 10 percent moisture. the 200F heat for the time period? kills the evil weevils. the caping with lid while hot? seals the jar.. preventing NEW air to contaminate the contents. it does not in any way remove the air from the jar we've sealed.. thats another reason to fill product to the extreme top of the jars. i will use usda as a GUIDE LINE and research. if they have no study's to back a claim? then i follow the wise grannies from yesteryear.. often the govt? doesn't want us to know we can preserve grains, dairy as well as other foods. a control thing.. but thats another video lol

oh ken.. i researched the amount percentage allowed by gov't... and even tho it's a small percentage? just takes one to ruin our food right? this.. guarantee's our investment is useful :-D

Mylar is rather pricey and jars are reusable...
and mice can't chew thu my jars lol living in the country? ya.. we get mice.. we dont allow them to be comfortable but.. does happen.
