If I vacuum seal rolled oats in bags, should it be rock hard after sealing? I have an older machine and one of my bags doesn't feel hard. Does that mean that there is still air in the bag and the contents won't last as long?

It doesn’t need to be rock hard. It’s more like unable to move around within the bag. If that makes sense. I would re-vacuum that one. If it’s still the loose, I’d put it in a jar to seal.

What is the oldest oatmeal that you sealed and still good?

Hmmm. Right now I’d say 7 years is the oldest I have. We are still rotating stock and using it. My granola cereals with oatmeal don’t last nearly as long. So I’ve found it’s better to vacuum seal whole ingredients and mix them when you use them. I’m sure the oatmeal is good for far more than 7 years. I just don’t have any.

I wish I could order from Azure Standard but the pick up place is too far. I did get a bunch from Costco. But that’s also very far. So these came from my local grocery store which is Martins. Thankfully they were on sale.

Azure standard & if you get a few people in your area they'll add a drop spot.

I have a FoodSaver machine similar to yours that I use for many things that I compress in my storage bags. But for vacuum sealing In jars 🫙 I you the black vacuum that fits on to of the jars and when I use it, I hold it down for the forty count. I do not put it on a walk away from it like one lady did and complained about it not sealing. I have 5 -10 old seal from both machines. BUT I do not reuse my lids, I use NEW FORJAR lids, that are not that expensive. Keep up your good videos. Gabby from Florida Panhandle…

It’s just me and I don’t have space for 1/2 gallon jars. I’m putting 2 cups per pint jar. Question, should I use oxygen absorbers for longer storage? I found quick oats bulk on sale.
