I find it interesting that with all those strong, fierce Vikings, only one was brave enough to question the system and go against everyone around him. They don't have a choice to fight dragons. It's kill or be killed. But Hiccup chose to do things differently. That's the bravest thing a Berkian can do.
Bravery can be pointed in multiple directions. It's not a matter of capacity, but more a matter of focus. Hiccup was the only viking who's gaze was wide enough to see the potential in dragons.
Hiccup was only able to question the system because he couldn’t fight the dragons. He was protected by the other Vikings and knew that when they wouldn’t protect him that fighting wasn’t an option
It really is a balance. But one of the biggest huddles is other peoples perception. Sometimes the right thing is to be dominant and when you are and you make those hard choices people will see you as cold or mean and may not like you. Sometimes the right call is kindness and empathy but even when you make that right choice others will see you as weak and soft. Sometimes the real strength is making those choices even though it may color your perception to others that’s one thing I see in this film.
My blessed pancakes, you just summarized with that one comment my entire perspective and the effect that How To Train a Dragon and Transformers Prime layed on me (with some other works from different or similar media).
I'm happy someone made a video like this. One of my favorite things about Hiccup is that even though he gets scared in dangerous situations, it don't make him weak or a coward. He embodies courage. After all, courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the assessment that something else is more important than fear. I really love the HTTYD trilogy, and Hiccup is one of my favorite protagonist in media.
For me I always think a man is to be strong, I'm 20 and I can't do push ups, or lift heavy things, but I'm in a trade school and learning. I don't wanna consider myself a man yet because I can't provide or help with big stuff I ain't ready for yet.
I can understand where you’re coming from. It’s easy to associate being a “man” with physical strength or being able to provide in traditional ways, but those things don’t define your worth or maturity. Strength isn’t just about lifting heavy things; it’s also about resilience, responsibility, and growth. You’re at a stage where you’re learning and developing skills that will help you provide and contribute in meaningful ways-both in your trade and in life. It’s important to give yourself time to grow into those roles. True strength is about continuing to push forward, even when things are challenging, and you’re already doing that by being in trade school and working on your future. You’re exactly where you need to be, and there’s no rush to define yourself by any single moment. Keep building yourself-physically, mentally, and emotionally-and the rest will come.
Make sure to warm up properly before workouts and use proper form on exercises so you are less likely to injure yourself. Gaining physical strength takes time and dedication. If you keep a steady pace and nourish yourself with a nutritious diet and get plenty of rest, you’ll get more physically fit.
Just wanna tell you man I really like your content. I try to stay away from pop culture or anything like that but I like how you take the good in movies and find the lesson, the moral of the story and teach it. Thank you
Ironically the only Dragon Hiccup and Toothless killed was a Red Death. And Grimmel the Grimsly is what Hiccup could have become if he took a Darker Path and killed Toothless.
As a wise man once said…”be strong enough to be gentle” like many things in life…it’s all about the balance. Don’t be afraid to be yourself, don’t be afraid to share your feelings and emotions…especially with those who care about you, and…don’t be afraid to stand up for yourself, for others, and for what’s right. And this isn’t just true for men, but women as well. I’m a woman, I was never really a “girly girl” as they call it. I’m often quiet, stoic, reserved, spunky, bold, adventurous, etc. i like a lot of things that are mostly associated with men, I’m just a nerd/geek. I’ve always related to hiccup in a way, i know what it’s like to be the underdog, being short and petite, not all that physically strong. What I lack in physical strength, I make up for in mental strength. Tho…I do have a strong will, and a high pain tolerance. I think we…as human beings, all have a mix of both masculinity and femininity, some line more on one side or the other, and some are right in the center, we just need to get rid of gender stereotypes and gender roles, and just…be ourselves. Be the people we strive to be, and see in the world. That’s what we need, great video btw.
Hiccup really is such a good and relatable character you can really understand his feelings and struggle and wanting to be strong like the other Vikings but then he figured out his own path in life and it’s Just so cool to see it played out httyd is a really good series and you did a great job as always
If I had a nickel for every viking series changing the view of masculinity (That I know of), I’d have two nickels, not a lot but I loved it happened twice I love HTTYD and Vinland Saga for what it means stand strong in a culture of violence
Nice vid! I actually have the audio track "This too shall pass" saved in my spotify, so it was a fun surprise to hear it at the end there, it fit well. I also liked the dialogue you added in there with the characters and the snotlout scene, great work editing.
Great video bru I’m lowkey drunk but still I loved your philosophy in this video it goes to show har deep you think about humans and their morals between what men think is soft and weak or strong and hard
Jacob was always masculine from the very get go that wasn't the problem The problem was that his heart was too weak to kill dragons no one doubted that he was a mascular man he was a run of the literature but no one thought he was a femboy or anything like that that didn't even exist back then
because toxic masculinity is more harmfull than toxic femininity as toxic mascullinity is based on agresion and vilonece, where toxic femininity is based on submision and downgrading other woman, even tho those two are harmfull toxic masculinity harms both men and woman where toxic femininity harms only woman and actully benefits men as a lot of toxic woman are "pick me" and seek male validation.
@@fabiankobiaka4064 I think toxic femininity hurts both men and women. No amount of toxicity should be ignored. Besides, toxic femininity is based on control, just like the male variant. It involves manipulation and even physical violence. Its never only about sex.
@@joseantonioferreiracomplet2097 i don't say we should ignore toxic femininity it's not as much as systemic issue as toxic masculinity because we live in a patriarchal society toxic masculinity is being better preserved by our culture. And saying that "woman are also toxic" is just dismissive of the issue of toxic masculinity and tries to put women as "the bad one".
What I wanna know is who TF says the ending of HTTYD perpetuates “toxic stereotypes”? Since when is a man being a hero and saving his friends a “toxic”?!
Hiccup Solving the problem with violence even though he was know to communicate with the dragons is hypocritical to some, that’s just what I heard not what I believe in 😭🤷♂️

it's easy to fall into the trap of "people around me will see me this way" when in reality that in and of itself is a test of strength

300 years and I'm the first Viking who wouldn't kill a dragon!
Astrid: First to ride one though
Strength doesn’t make a man. Just strong character.
Pretty good there!

@@MediaMunchies495 nice wording, will take that in
Start with incline pushups, knee pushups, and/or reverse pushupd. That's how I got my first pushup; I was 18 at the time.

A man can be anything not just a leader or provider
