    Stainless Steel Grinding and Polishing on welded joints is an important task for any fabricator. And as I said its a time-consuming process to make joint up to high gloss finish. The perfect way to do this work is by increasing gradually the number of grit. Usually, a good buffing surface appears after 1200 to 1500 grit. But unfortunately, I am not able to find those grit sizes from the local supplier. But by giving slightly more time to the 600 grit scotch Brite wheel almost near the perfect buffed surface can be achieved. In the video, I showed two objects with different finishing onto them. First one is the welded pipe joint and the second one is the angle piece and onto both the pieces I show step by step method to do the grinding. Onto the angle piece, I start from 60 grit and ended up to 600 grit with various kinds of grit sizes because I divided the angle into different parts. If you have any question left definitely feel free to ask.

    Thanks so much for the video. Now my question is I would like to Polish a stainless chair from, it has scratches all over and I want to Polish it to look brand new. Which tools can I use. Thanks I will be grateful to hear from you

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  3 года назад

      Dear for the polishing the chair you should look overs the scratches. You can compare from the sample which I showed in the video. My recommendation are to go with 400 grit scotch brite wheel if they are littel deep but don't go less than that. If they are light scratches then you can easily buff them with the polish and the buffing wheel. The white polish works best for that. For a round pipe there is definitely little difficult if you go with angle grinder but it's doable, I don't recommend to buy seperate tool for just one time work. Use the scotch wheel which have a contour( an already used wheel have that curved shape) for more contact. Thanks for being here:)

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  3 года назад +2

      Thanks Nathan for the kind words, really appreciate your feedback. For the stick welding there are thinner rods available like 3/32" and 1/16" and usually 50-60 amps settings works good for upto 18 gauge sheet metal. If you are able to get them use any of these. They comes little costly then rest of the rods sizes and for the right technique you can consider watching one of my video over this topic.

      @@ambroscustom hi , very nice videos I subscribed . I am building a gate , using 304 1.2 mm thick tubing . On corner miter joints how to remove the slag and blackish can I grind off using flexible then use 120 grit flap and then use a localscotch bright ! Please guide

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  2 года назад +1

      @@touchlessgatessrinagar5408 thanks dear, well if the welding bead is little thick than first grind it with stone wheel and make sure to use wheel vertical like how you cut with cutting disk. By doing that you are able to remove most of the high spots, but make sure not to go all the way down, leave a little bit of material onto the surface. After that switch to 120 grit. After doing that fist Operation now you have to grind less material and able to avoid gouging into the material surface. But make sure to be careful while using grinding wheel vertical. I basically used around 8 different sizes of wheels to remove scratches from the joints. Remember one thing try not to overheat the grinding area and do not apply too much pressure on wheels during grinding. More heat you generate more it's going to deform. I hope it's gonna help you or may be in near future I made a in depth video tutorial on this. Good luck for your build and be safe:)

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  2 года назад +2

      Thanks pal. Polishing old rust rebars is a bit more difficult because of the curls and ridges. Those scotch Brite wheels tears down alot more faster on those ridges, so getting a mirror finish is a bit more difficult. The thing you can do is wire brush them and then buff them without going to use any flap disk or Scotch wheel. This gives you good result also on rebars without damaging it's looks. As far as protection is concerned if you don't wanted to cover them with clear varnish only thing you can do is cleaning them daily or having a thin layer of oil (wd-40) rubbed onto the surface but this thing also need to be done on regular basis.

    Hi there, I'm trying to polish small stainless steel tube beads to a high gloss finish in a barrel with steel shots and burnishing liquid but it's not happening. Do you have any advice or tricks I could try? Thank you! xx

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  2 года назад

      Hi dear, before giving you any advice I wanted to know what tools you have, what is the size of those beads and what's quantity, are you need to buff regularly or its just a small project you are working on. What is inside hole dia of the beads, definitely let me know so that I can figure out something.

    • @judittoth4527
      @judittoth4527 2 года назад

      @@ambroscustom Thank you for your reply 😊 The beads are small tubes, 5mm long, 2mm diameter, hole is about 1.4-1.5mm. I have thousands of them. This is not a small project, I specialise in stainless steel Morse code jewellery. Last time they forgot to polish my beads so they're matte and my round beads (for the dots) are very shiny so I need the tube beads to match them as much as possible. I've been researching the whole thing, I think I'm gonna try to polish them with ceramic media to see if it works. Last night I tested a small batch of the beads with the steel shots, bicarb soda, a drop of diswashing liquid and some vinegar, in a bottle, shaking them by hand for an hour or so, they look much better. I keep experimenting 😅

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  2 года назад

      Well shaking them with hand is definitely not good idea, but the thing I recommend you is to have a tumbler like system or if you just wanted to try you can do it manually or connect it to drill machine so that it can rotate for 1-2 hrs. So what most probably work is to have polishing liquid. I don't know whether it's available in your area or not but use some cotton balls and use some liquid polish and put them in bottle or close container and make sure to have have some space in it so that the material easily able to rub with the cotton balls. Don't use too much polishing liquid because we don't need soggy cotton balls, that will not going to work effectively and one more thing to consider is to have a little hard cotton balls or you can mesh it to remove the fluffiness. More than 90 % sure that it's goona work. I can't tell about the scratch removal because I didn't have the exact idea of finish already present on it. But I am sure that this method will surely bring that shiny luster look on those beads. Good luck but definitely let me know weather you succeed or not.

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  3 года назад

      Dear there might be two reasons and I am hoping that you prep the surface before buffing upto 600 grit. first is that you might need to pay little more time on buffing and try to go little slower,and if already did that then use a warm damp cloth and gently rub the surface the top greasy layer gets removed and you get the shiny surface. If that doesn't work either than polishing compound your supplier provide that has a mate finish properties. Because the color code might change from company to company.

    Hello sir... green ..white last grey soap right?

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  3 года назад

      No dear grey is coarse, white is the last. You can use only one which is green one for stainless. But high luster is only attained by white. The grey polish gives a bit dull shine.

    what is the brand name of your grinders?

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  3 года назад +1

      It's from king brand, very durable and robust but there are surely other good brands too, suggest to buy a long handle grinder that would be much better to work with.

    • @ambroscustom
      @ambroscustom  3 года назад +1

      Dear process is almost the same. But start according to depth of scratch. 400 grit and then move on upto buffing. Most of the time light scratches can be easily removed by buffing only.
