- The Mad Hornet from the Max Force line is one of those odd, old blasters that you wonder why they don't do more things like it. You pump it up a few dozen times and it shoots darts out semi-automatically for a few shots. There isn't many blasters that do this and it confuses me because, while it might not be the most efficient system, it's really flippin' cool.

Is just irony that this is essentially a pistol version of the actual hornet?(from the unity power system) because of how its 6 shots, firing micro darts, being air powered, and firing the 6 darts with each trigger pull? Exept for how the younger hornet is actually alot more 'mad'.

HOLY. DAMN. SHIT. I've been searching for this one like a really long time. I had one when I was a kid, it was a Christmas gift from my parents when I was like 5-6 yo... I sold it almost new because the pump broken and my mom didn't really liked me shooting darts all over the house, it's been almost 20 years since that and oh boi do I regret it! I hope to found another one in good condition some day just to remember the good ol' times

The Mad Hornet i found stopped firing after its O-rings expanded and created to much friction to allow the air release to open. Found replacement O-rings at Ace just under the size of the stock ones and after a relubing, got it firing again no problem. Very fun interesting blaster.

I almost picked up one of these for $10 on OfferUp, it's pretty cool, except the tank on that specific one leaks more than than Wikileaks, so I never got it.
Glad you got a hold of a Mad Hornet. Life has just been kicking my ass and making things that should be easy, stupidly hard...

Nearly got one of these, not realising that it was an air blaster. I thought it was a semi-automatic springer so I passed on it when it wouldn't fire my test dart. The pump had broken off, which is why I didn't think it was air powered. Oh well, got a Cyber Stryke Strongarm from the same person.
Just thrifted one of these for $2.99! Plan on using it for the local war as we have stock only rounds and I think if I use this I can run a lighter rig and get a couple quick tag or something. As always thanks for the vid and work you put in!

"Rider henshin!" 90% of the viewers don't know where that's from and it's a shame that more people don't know about Kamen Rider.
As a guy that has tried to mod a Mad Hornet before, the way the semi auto firing function works is both interesting and annoying. Basically the tank has a spring loaded air release nozzle that needs to be pushed in for the air pressure to come out. But to make the gun semi auto they added a minispring that is compressed and then released with each trigger pull; this quick compression and release pushes on the air release value just enough to let a small amount of air out of the tank to launch the dart. This main problem with this system is that for max range you need to keep pumping between reloads. Also the only way to empty your mad hornet air tank is to pull the trigger a bunch of times.

Pretty sure the N64 was 1996, a t least if you lived in the North American or Japanese Markets. June-September 96' was the launch of the console as it rolled out in japan and then North America.

Im really suprised hasbro hasnt done a vintage collection for nerf yet. Maybe im biased because i grew up in the wacky design days. But to me the 90s stuff was so much more creative that todays blasters. Zombie strike is cool asthetics wise, but it still doesnt have the spark the old stuff has.

I would like to try this. Looking at the internals, someone could easily 3D print parts that work similarly to the Mad Hornets internals and throw them on any mini sized bicycle pump of choice. Will require some obvious design differences but could be done!
Wish I got old stuff like that, the oldest thing I could get was a buzsaw. I guess I do get a lot of good blasters instaid Wich is a good thing. Also, sorry for calling the stryfe the worst blaster. I picked one up and it jammed like crazy, got a new one for a friend, and realized that it didn't jam, I let one bad stryfe make me hate them all, when they are actually really good
97 was cool but 93 had friggen doom, Jurassic park, pulp fiction and MK 2!
Yeah but 1994 had the Nerf Eagle Eye, Doom 2, The Crow, The Mask, Donkey Kong Country, Road Rash, also Pulp Fiction, which is actually a 94 film, not 93.
If the seal is good and power up gradable there are so many fun, wacky things this blaster could do...
Ok so this is going to sound crazy at first so hang on... get some one to 3D print a new turret that has couplers instead of barrels so you can put 6 (detachable) rear loaded scar barrels on it. You'd have the only rifled Nerf revolver in the world!
Then make spigot replacement barrels that shoot mega darts, put fins on some and you have a 6 shot mini rocket pistol! :)
Then make barrels for other ammo types... semi-auto Boomco shotgun pistol anyone?
Too bad they used to give blasters a weird gimmick like ''let's make this thing some kinda animal''. This doesn't need that at all, the way it functions is its gimmick, all the hornet stuff just distracts. Just imagine this baby being shaped like a maverick! No needless gimmick, more better!
Zero Blade nah, no space for the air tank then, most of the animal themed blaster had a lot of extra plastic but this one is pretty much as slim as possible. The large back accommodates the air tank and turning mech
These were intended for children sir. I'm sure the makers didn't want their kids to be shot at by police. Probably why they never made another Nerf gun with an all black shell.

This would be cool but is easier said than done. The air tank seems too fragile to take more than what the pump can already deliver.

You should really have a better, more organized format for your reviews, instead of talking about your story on how you found it and more about the blaster, like Coop, this fault is also present in Draconical, his reviews are honestly very annoying and uninformative.
