I learned how to flow coat from a painter who did deep lacquer paint. A couple coats, dry, sand, paint. Couple more coats, repeat. He said anyone can learn to spray but the eye and feel with prep is what makes or breaks your paint job. Anyway sometimes it took him a month are better to paint a car. When it was done it looked a mile deep. Great vid awesome work, like that car 👍
I wish I had access to information like this year's ago, I have painted several cars over the years and only found out about flow coat after helping the neighbor with his fox body resto, it's content creators like yourself who have broadened my would be abilities for my next paint job, if there is a next one I will be using the flow coat method, thanks for your teachings.
Great video!!! Everything in plain English' with a great demo. You're the kind of person we need on the tube helping us home garage, low budget car guys. THANK YOU!
I appreciate all your videos amigo. I have a 98 civic I'm going to be doing my first ever paint job on. Plan to do a flow coat on it. All your videos have helped alot. After this project i will be testing my skills on candy on a 92 mr2 that i also have. Wish you nothing but success with your RUclips page!! Puro pa adelante amigo!
Hi Pharraway some really good information here you have included pretty much everything that's needed to be done to get your car ready for a flowcoat. I was surprised to see that I do almost exactly the same process as you do apart from the corners and edges which I use a fine soft foam pad but it does the same job, looks like I'm doing everything right so far, looking forward to the clearcoat stage🙏🙏👍John UK.
Man! Wish I seen this video years ago. I found out about flow coating by accident when I was doing a spot fix on a burn thru(happens more than I'd like to admit) and when I finally sprayed the clear it laid down so flat and perfect it blew my mind! But I didn't know why exactly until I just watched your other video on doing a spot fix and went thru this process it finally clicked! It makes sense now and at just the right time too as I'm finishing a paint job that's has taken me way too long and was dreading all the cutting and buffing and polishing I was about to do but nahhh fam we about to flow coat this MF'R! 😂 this process is also perfect because I can then fix all the burn throughs and other defects while I have everything sanded 👌 yeeeee I'm actually excited to finish up this paint job now 😀
I noticed from one of your other videos that you didnt use the grey scotch pad(800 grit) in this video. Is it better to use the grey scotch pad after the 600 and maroon scotch pad? Does it make the clear lay down flatter with the gray scotch pad finish?
Hey bro i repainted a section in my car but due to my clear coat spray can got empty just after one coat i could not able to do multiple coat , after few month can i just aply my clear coat on my car by sanding with 2000 grit or i need to redo the paint job ?
Nice explanation my friend, you can't beat a buff job but if you can get it straight out the booth looking like its was buffed thats a plus for me, I hate buffing lol.
@@PHARRAWAY Thanks for the reply! This video was really helpful. How long do you allow your first coats to sit before sanding! Getting ready to do my first paint job. Learning as much as possible!
@PHARRAWAY can you explain to me what it takes to get this kind of result in a paint job. When I was a teenager their was a guy with a candy blue chrysler, and where I live Im used to seeing candy painted cars all the time so the first few times I saw it I thought nothing of it. One day Im taking the trash out and I had to walk pass the car to get to the dumpster. Up close I could tell this wasnt just some regular degulary paint job. When you look at his hood it was like looking through clean blue water at a beach. The flakes underneath shimmered like sand and it had a great amount of depth between the paint and the silver flakes underneath. It was literally like looking at water i cant explain it any other way.
Nice work Pharraway super smooth a bit like yourself dude 😜 happy belated new year to you and your family and thanks for all the fabulous entertainment throughout 2022 I’m looking forward to more of your videos in 2023 👍🙏🍻
A couple of questions on flow coating, I am doing a white pearl on my truck. I realize there is a base coat, pearl and clear coat 1- should I flow coat both the pearl and clear coat by putting on 3 coats sanding then 2 more coats 2- I read some comments where they state instead of sanding w 600 or 1200 to get rid of fish eyes and other contaminates can I just add a reducer to each layer of pearl and clear???
Why you use the red scotch bright and not the grey one if u are just gonna be adding more clear? Would the san scratches be covered when you clear? I was always taught for re clearing use a grey scotch bright
Been awhile ive come to your mate, been flat stick like you i see ....love your input an explanation ....i allways say to the young fellers "The only way you will learn is the wrong way" they look at me strange an go huh? 🤣😂then i laugh to myself thinking this kid has no idea.
Trivia. Who came up with the concept of “Flo Coating?” There’s also a difference between flo coating a Re coating AKA just sanding and stacking more clear coat on top on clear on a paint job.
Boy! I cringe when u started sanding, I thought you were going to start somewhere else. Why dry? Is adding soapy water not good? Enjoy your context, your great instructor
Terrific video my friend I just found your channel and I subscribed awesome technique I have just learned especially never thought of using Scotch-Brite way easier your way thanks again
What u think of "my friend Pete" way of flow coating he sprays 3 coats of clear base/blender let's it dry sands it then shoot clear he uses the "clear mid coat" as if it was clear

Great job pointing out the swirls from the clogged paper. We call them pig tails. Keep up the good work!
Awesome brother 👌

So how'd it go?
Great tutorial on flow coating Pharraway 🤝
Thanks You Sprayway
Great in depth instructions on how to do this correctly and another way than wet sanding
Now I sure did enjoy these two videos. Sure made the flowcoat look so easy. A lot of work, but well worth it my friend. Job well done.
Learn so much watching your videos. One of these days I'm going to tackle my first paint job
Thank you for all your insights, and gold nuggets you provide us beginners. Much love
Great explanation for flow coating! I’ve done this a couple of times and it makes your paint look really deep!!
Thanks for the tips. Enjoy watching the videos you post. Just used the link. It should arrive Friday. Again Thanks

Good job breaking it down, easy to follow.

Cool process I get nervous for you every time I see you start that sander on the fresh paint

Hell yeah just subscribed I felt like I learned some thing watching this knowing I didn’t waste my day looking Forward for the nice video
Much appreciated brother 🙏
You dog you got me just sat down with a beer and I have to wait for the next video I was so into it. Thanks for the lesson
Rock on!
Thats going to be beautiful paint job when done
Thanks for your time and for sharing the knowledge. Great video to watch and learn
Glad it was helpful!
After cut and buffing my last black paint job; I’m definitely going to flow coat the next one!
You have to wet sand and buff if you want nice paint
You did a great job at warning about the curves

Amazing! Your paint looked flawless until you started sanding and showed the orange peel and dust. Can't wait for the next clear coat segment!
Do I have to flow coat with the same clear or can it be a different clear
YOU CAN USE A DIFFERENT CLEAR
Question, I saw another painter use intercoat clear for the first coats of clear to cut down on dry time in the flow coat process. Your thoughts?
Then use the normal urethane clear for the final clear process.. sorry I meant to add that part.
I have never done that but if it works why not

it takes a lot of time and hard work but to get the depth of that is flow coating
Hasta lijado se ve bonito..parejito el lijado excelente trabajo como siempre
Great stuff, Pharraway. God bless.
Thank you kindly
Great information. Nice job!
The car (panels) are straight as my 6 foot level. Could almost leave the ride just sanded if going for Gothic appearance. Good work.
That is true 👍

Good show😊
Nice. Want to paint my car when I'm done with it?
Wow!!! That was an awesome video as always . Thanks for being so detailed ✌🏻🤘🏾✊🏿
Question if i am doing a three stage paint. Base, pearl, clear... Should/could i sand on the pearl and clear?
Excellent tutorial! ;) Beautiful car, too!
Did you say 4 coats of clear then sand then 1 more (flow coat)? Beautiful!!
that is correct
After sanding it like that do you have to reclear ? Or can you buff that ? Thanks.
Excellent as always. Great explanations.
Why you use the red scotch bright and not the grey one if u are just gonna be adding more clear? Would the san scratches be covered when you clear? I was always taught for re clearing use a grey scotch bright
Yes the sand scratches will cover, and I ran out of the gray
Question, do you add flo or slow activator in your clearcoat?
Yes you do
What grit of sand paper are you using ,is that single stage or 2 stage paint ,thanks
I start with 220 and finish with 600
Tape your edges and corners using the da and come back to hand block those areas by hand later
Great stuff, bro. Thank you for sharing it!
And that's how it's done the right way ☝️ waiting for the next episode😁 and when can i drop off my 53 Bel Air ?
Nice video vato...
Nicely explained, I've struggled with this before. Can you recommend an electric DA? I only have a small compressor.
Everyone uses the porter cable electric sander DA. They are expensive around $160 US but built to last and well worth it.
Walcom? What tip? Thanks for the video.
It's a 1.2 tip with the MP air cap
Flowcoating a -63 mercedes SL tomorrow 😍
Great information! Thanks, I needed that!
Do you normally do a dry sand before flow coating or does it depend on the paint you are using?
I normally dry sand
Thanks for sharing this .
It’s saying something that the paint job even looks good after sanding.
Been awhile ive come to your mate, been flat stick like you i see ....love your input an explanation ....i allways say to the young fellers "The only way you will learn is the wrong way" they look at me strange an go huh? 🤣😂then i laugh to myself thinking this kid has no idea.
You are correct
twirleys are called pig tails in nz and aussie
Great footage, and thanks for the patience explaining, where are you located?
Texas
Are all show cars at riddler style flo coated?
Yes they are
Woooo somebody got balls of steel usin 600 sheesh I was nervous just watching
Good info. 👍
is there a reason you did it dry sanding instead of wet sanding?
Wet sanding gives you a finer finish
Nice job.
Nice work
We call those squiggly lines pig tails
true
have u ever tried URECHEM brand clear?
nice job on that black impala where are you located
Texas
Good video God Bless brother. 👍😉✌
