  • Join composer/producer Hinako Omori as she demonstrates performance and recording techniques with her instrument of choice - the Moog Matriarch - a semi-modular 4-note paraphonic analog synthesizer. Omori began her musical path learning classical piano, later training as a sound engineer, and has since moved into working with analogue synths. Previous to releasing her own solo material she toured with and played on records by a raft of critically acclaimed musicians, including Kae Tempest, Georgia and many others.
    This session is part of Saffron's 7 Days of Sound event and has been supported by Moog:

    This was very thorough and a much appreciated look at the Matriarch I enjoyed it. It seems like everyone approaches this synth differently depending on their playing style. Still learning how to navigate this synth. I hope the time spent learning every little nuance of it will pay off in the end.

    Thanks for the thorough walk-through! Even though I've owned the Matriarch for a while, I seek out reviews and performances for new insights and inspiration. I enjoyed seeing your connection with this instrument, and watching you build patches and connect with external devices.
    Regarding oscillator pitch knobs (10:50), there is a global setting (C#1) that allows you to set the dials from 0 to 24 semi-tones. I keep mine set at an octave, and I also changed my pitch bend knob (G#0) to the same range.

    Aside from the fact that Hinako has really melded delightfully with the Matriarch - loving the demo with all those live layers, this video has become one of my favourites in the ASMR genre… such a relaxed demo accompanied by Hinako’s soothing voice.

    I love this synth, very nice demo. If moog released a rack version, 4 or 5U, 3 vco paraphonic, filter overdrive, the delay module, a few modulation tricks and most important, no screens or presets, just old school…damn that would be a dream synth.

I am now subscribing to your channel and please do stop by my NOISE ARKITEKT channel to have a look and listen to my noise explorations and sound designs. I will be looking out for more incredible sounds and compositions coming from your studio.

    21:12 This is the sound that seems to come out of the Matriarch more than any other sound. Matriarch owners somehow always end up making the same sound: Yeah it's got an array of VCO shapes and filter options, but for some reason if you peruse RUclips or instagram, everyone makes this sound.

  • @dvamateur
    @dvamateur 2 года назад +4

    I wonder if Moog is going to continue the development of this semi-modular synthesizer series line. I would be interested in a Moog Patriarch, which would have 8 main oscillators, 2 oscillators per voice, which would provide one with 4 voices of polyphony, and 8 voices of paraphony. It would also have 4 envelopes, and 2 LFO's. To accommodate all these extra components, it would have a wider chassis, also accommodating a 6-octave keyboard with polyphonic aftertouch licensed from AMS. The price would sit somewhere between the Matriarch and the Moog One. Unless, Moog has an agreement with Sequential not to step over their Prophet-5/Prophet-10 territory price range territory.

    • @pairadeau
      @pairadeau 2 года назад +20

      A Moog Patriarch would have to be inferior for very obvious reasons. What you're describing is the Moog Goddess.
