  • Goals for this character build are to create a Wisdom-based monk, exploit the Plasmoid’s Amorphous ability to squeeze through tiny openings and unarmed combat, use Arms of the Astral Self + Plasmoid for wisdom-based Grapple checks and to level up using half-feats to gain spell casting, wisdom bonuses and thematic abilities.
    I will be playing this character in an upcoming Spelljammer campaign.

    Great build! Hex is a great fit on this build, but with so few spell slots you might get more out of skill expert for the always on expertise in athletics checks (However the extra damage on flurry of blows is *chefs kiss*). Even misty step is a little redundant then with advantage to escape grapples + expertise and squeezing through tight spaces and monks mobility covers a lot of misty steps other benefits?
    Otherwise dipping cleric levels would be a big benefit for spell slots and utility. Trickery would get you disguise self, light cleric would give you the ability to add disadvantage to some attacks against you. This + shield of faith would really help your ability to tank while grappling creatures. Your hp isn't fantastic so maintaining grapples may be a challenge without high AC?
    (Edit: I can't believe I missed the obvious pun: this monk feels a little.... Squishy!)

      I love these ideas! So much good stuff and I totally whiffed on the Skill Expert. Getting expertise in Athletics is brilliant. I was also curious as to a good multiclass with this build and the Cleric definitely poses some advantageous ideas. Thank you for sharing this! Cheers!

    Good build. I was questioning why you didn't go with a rogue build until I saw you take stealth and set yourself up as being able to attune to a spelljammer helm. Geordi will definitely be part of the crew for my party's first introduction to Spelljammer.
    I'd like to see a Thri-Kreen build somewhere down the road. Some kind of rogue, maybe. I tend to use the characters you make as recurring NPCs in my game.
    So far, they go over very well with the party. Thanks!

      Oh wow, thank you my friend. It's an honor to know that some of these character builds have lives in the worlds of other DMs. I dig it. I hope your party enjoys Spelljammer. I am looking forward to it myself. And, I'll take a look at the Thri-Kreen Rogue and see what I can do. Cheers, AeonDez!

    plasmoid might be the best race for any grapple centered build.

    This is a cool build, and plasmoids are always cool. I know it's been 5 months, but I wanted to point out
    4:30
    I would personally as a GM, not count carrying a shield with the pseudopod as properly using it defensively.
    However, the pseudopod is incredibly useful without trying to squeeze out that +2 to AC, for example, it can deliver (Non attack) touch spells with a range of 10 feet, so if you want to give someone guidance, you've got more range than ever before. You can also manipulate things, meaning it can satisfy weapons with the "Loading" property as far as I understand.

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  Год назад

      I think this sounds fair. You are correct, a lot of cool things to do with the pseudopod. As long as the player knows shield is not an option at the beginning, everything should be good-to-go. Thank you for watching. Cheers!

    You're correct, action to grapple prevents Unarmed Strike, BUT you CAN use flurry of blows.
    (Enjoying the video, monks are my specialty 😂)

      Ah, thank you DungeonDr for the tip on Flurry of Blows. Monks used to be at the bottom of my favorite classes to play, but they have raised significantly in the past year or so. I can't wait to play this character. Cheers!

    I want to play this build for a Halloween one shot. Basically reflavor the Plasmoid as a ghost. And the astral arms has her ghostly hair springing to “life” 😅

    Personally, I would get Skill Expert for the grapple checks, instead of Resilient. Monks already get proficiency on all saving throws eventually.

    I don’t think the pseudopod can wield a shield to give +2 AC (it can move it though).
    But I think it can:
    Hold a spell component.
    Steal something while you distract someone with your main body.
    Do a ranged Touch spell (at least something like Cure Wounds, not so sure about a Touch Spell ATTACK).
    Give yourself a “tail” if you are imitating a Tabaxi or something.

    I was thinking monk warlock (for hexblade )

  • @feralart
    @feralart 10 месяцев назад +1

    I know normally the tendril a plasmoid can sprout can't make a weapon attack, but would a monk's martial arts ability allow it to be used for an unarmed strike?

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  10 месяцев назад

      I don't think so. The monk's bonus action unarmed strike is still a part of the attack action and the tendril's definition specifies it cannot be used to attack. So, as a DM, I would say the tendril cannot make the unarmed strike. Hope this helps!

    How can you be a monk if you must be a cleric with that background? could you explain me

    • @WallyDM
      @WallyDM  Год назад +1

      Hi John, the "cleric" portion is simply a background option in the Spelljammer book. It is simply for backstory purposes and a few additional skills. You do not take any levels of cleric with this build. I hope this helps clear things up. Cheers!
