All the years I've been taking photos and understanding the exposure TRIANGLE, I've often wondered how this FOURTH control called exposure compensation worked. What kind of weird magic was it doing that shutter, aperture and ISO wasn't. Great explanation Chris.
How did I miss this first time around (or did I, I’m getting old!). I missed the ending as I was rushing around getting my camera out of the bag and playing with the dials. Essential viewing for Fuji owners as usual!
I’m italian, but your speach for me is clear as italian!!! Love it! The most important things, however, is that your tips and explainetions are the best, for Fuji owners, in the RUclips world!!! Everytime I watch your video I learn something new… 👏🏼👏🏼
Within first minute I learnt my problem. Recently bought my first proper camera. Whilst having fixed shutter speed and aperture, I was wondering why the exposure adjustment dial was not changing anything. Now I know!! Thanks!!!❤
Considering my indifference to the exposure comp dial, your information turned my head 180 degrees. These are very jazzy camera bodies. And your level of knowledge is excellent.
I tried these features on my X-T2 and they worked as you described. But when adjusting on my X-T20, the front dial doesn't behave the same way. Could you explain the differences?
Chris, thank you once again for a most comprehensive explanation of one of our camera dials not included (at least in understandable format) in the Fuji manual. I hope that Fuji will consider putting you on some form of payroll. Your insights are always greatly appreciated.
I didn't see the purpose in the EC dial. I always shoot in manual mode. You solved my mystery seconds into the video. Now I understand, thanks. BTW you a natural at this, very engaging and you structure the communication well.
Once again, a fantastic tutorial. Now I know why I've never used the exposure compensation dial, I'd always worried I wasn't making the most of my camera, it's because I always shoot fully manual, so I've never needed it. But at least I know how to use it now if I ever were to shoot in a priority mode...
Thanks for your sharing, I owned a Xe3 more than 3 years now, recently bought a second one as my B roll. Never use the camera full potential, thanks so much again.
That was pretty comprehensive on a simple control knob. Nicely done. for the record, I'm of those people who can't live without it and question those who never use it.
@Kevin Other people may adjust one of the three sides of the exposure triangle and not bother with the EC dial. I would not judge somebody who never used it, I'd judge their images.
Nice video, right to the point. Most you tubers talk for two minutes or more before getting to the subject. A grey card will fix help with exposure. Expose for the grey card, and the rest of the tones fall into place.
Thank you. I have just recently migrated from Nikon to FujiFilm. Your videos have truly enhanced my understanding on how FujiFilm cameras work and how to best to use it.
Wow your a genius!!!! Your tutorial videos are simply amazing and Fuji should definitely pay you 👍 I was always thinking why did my shutter speed always went too low whilst in auto when I used the compensation dial!! I’ve been using Fuji cameras since 2015 and couldn’t understand why my shutter speed kept dropping even when setting the minimum speed in the menu as well!! I’ve asked a lot of Fuji RUclipsrs and x photographers who just couldn’t solve it ..
Thanks for another very detailed explanation, Fuji has so many good settings that one could very easily overlook. Even something a seemingly simple dial has so many useful alternative ways to use it.
I love Fuji cameras and I own one. But the compensation dial on the Fuji camera is the one I cannot get used to, ergonomiclly speaking. I like how you solved it. This is excellent advice, thank you!
I plan on using the Exposure Compensation dials and histogram as often as I can to help with, hopefully, resulting in better photos and videos. Thanks for sharing.
Have been using Fujifilm cameras (I used every single iteration that came out) for 6 years professionally and I never - ONCE - had to use this dial. I knew what it was for but was intrigued by your video :) great video, love how you explain things. Keep it up!
I sometimes use the EV dial to take advantage of ISO invariance and still allow the camera to automatically expose (RAW) photos two stops lower than it normally would, then adjust exposure in post processing. Often with wildlife photos where I’m trying to shorten exposure times and freeze motion as there’s no time to manually adjust the settings.
This video deserves more than a like this video deserves stars and*because the lesson given is very important and very necessary for the proper function of the exposure compensation procedure on a Fuji ex model camera. Thank you so much for this very valuable tutorial. Rusty ironmike
Wonderful explaination! I have learned, watched many videos from RUclips and you are the 2nd one who has told viewers how to use it properly. I have used the dial the calculate the light that I want to expose my picture then check the speed. Lock the speed to that value and I can take portrait pictures with the same light condition without changing any speed, iso, ap everytime.
I'm one minute in and I like the vibe! Energy! Enthusiasm! Excitment! Plus, I learned why my exposure compensation dial isn't working LOL! New subscriber!
it’s very helpful for me , i am new camera user (xt10) .. i got my answer some time iso or other thing note working on button, that’s why !! you are better explained!! 🙏
The exposure compensation dial with AE lock under single point metering mode is my favorite way to find the exposure when shooting black and white or under bright sunlight. Set to +1 and point to the highlight area, press AEL, correct exposure every time.
Great explanation! Love your videos, man. Fujifilm needs to put your videos on their site so more people can better understand their cameras and the exposure triangle as well.
this was a very well-done video. Thank you. It clearly explains something that is not understood by many - including me. I knew how the result worked - change the exposure. But I did not understand how logical it was - it is "just" changing one of the 3 parts of the triangle.
Thanks for the great info. I'm usually shooting in manual 90% of the time. However, due to changing scenarios and having to avoid changing settings on the fly I'm exploring using aperture priority and your video has brought much clarity.
Ffs Just found out I've been wasting my time changing the exposure without 1 of the 3 being in auto 🙃 all in under 10 minutes!! I'v subscribed to your channel 🥳
@@EODM1 Yeah I have seen ones asking why exposure was NOT changing. It just made me laugh that you were thinking it was changing. :D But then this is coming from a guy that once forgot to load film into a camera and thought they had shot 24 photos!
@@fredbloggs545 Thats nothing I was out shooting all day with the wife when I put my glasses on I could see a red flashing on the screen saying No Memory Card Inserted 😳 She's still laughing now 🤣
Very informative video. I would trade my exposure dial for an ISO dial in a heartbeat lol. I use an x-pro2 and the iso dial isn’t the worst, but I wouldn’t miss it.
Another highly educational video. Thank you very much for helping me understand the Exposure Compensation Dial. I use it often, but, I did not understand how extensive the options are. Also, my favorite Fujifilm camera is my X-T1. There is something magical about the X-trans 2 sensor. I have not advanced to shooting videos and the X-T1, with all its updates, produces beautiful still imagines. Actually, I like the look better than my X-T2. Long live the X-T1!
Excellent teaching methods and presentation. Enjoy your videos, always lean something... I would go for a doctors in psychology, you would be have more than enough work...
Thank you for this!! Would love to know more about this. Especially the last part you said like how it wont show on the screen the accurate image of the exposure compensation.
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us,I really appreciate the method you use to explain the information.May God bless you and your family.
I feel like I go into every one of these videos expecting to already know about the topic, and every time I walk away having learned something new.
I feel exactly the same!! And I always learn something new.
that's just what I was about to say. it's awesome.
I agree.... I learn alot from these videos.
Absolutely spot on !!! Thank you.
That's exactly why I clicked!
Thank you, now I understand what the dial is controlling, and as I always say, with Fuji tutorials you’re second to no one. Stay safe.
By far, one of the best Fuji channels on RUclips... Hang in there you’ll get to your 1M subs.
That dial confuses the hell out of me. Thank you very much for this tutorial
You got it Cosmas!!! 👍
I was so confused too. I thought it was to more fine tune your exposure some how.. haha.

Hey! Your channel is my go to for all Fujifilm content. I love your enthusiasm, keep it up.

You answered my burning question - what is the ECD actually changing and how do I choose whether it's ISO, aperture or SS. Soooooo happy now!

This channel is exceptional. No two ways about it. I'm stunned by how much I'm learning in each video.

It's more than 18 months with xt-3 but barely used this dial.
