I'm just starting to explore how to bring back my red '67 Bug. My Dad bought it new and now it's mine. It hasn't run or moved since 1995, but at least it has been in a storage building. It has the typical rust, but I am hoping to be able to put it back on the road myself. I know it needs pans and heater channels and likely a lot more than that I am sure. I'm hoping to be able to salvage the chassis. Thanks for your video!
My son and I are working on our 69 Ghia that we saved from the car crusher 👍. Good thing is that the pans and heating channels are in great shape! Hope to see you on the road!
Very cool, I've been kicking the idea around of getting a VW Beetle from the 50's, an Oval window would be awesome or 60's, a 64 as that is the year I was born, growing up my old man had 3 of them a 63, 69 and 74 Super Beetle and I remember having a subscription to Hot VW'S magazine, I myself had a 69 in the early eighties that I used as a work car, but I was and still am more into American cars, but will always have a soft spot for these cars!
... I wish you can see mine .... I called the "Frankenstein Floor Pans" ...I removed already ...Great Video VW Brother ... I have the same Year and Color VW, Germany Built ... Purchased it on Nov 2023 and in the Restoration Process...
It's not just the heater channel, it's the rocker panels that are rusted out. You will need to replace the inner, outer and lower panels of the rocker assembly which will need to be welded in. The heater channel is inside and not seen from the outside. The body bolts to the lower panel.
I've done this before but not like this. I always done it with 4 or 5 other people to help raise and lower the body. If you can get the assistants it's a much easier job.
Nice video. Just an observation. The chassis that you installed is not the same. This is a ‘66 VW with ball joints. The one that you replaced has king pins.
if the frame tunnel is not rusted out there be no need to change the pan but add the disc brakes and new floorpans to it and frame head as the 60 pan you have is different has a ling and linkpin beam the motor for that pan originally be a 36 hp as the stock 1966 US delivery models be a 1300. last car i had was a 1970 body on a 1968 swingaxle pan. I can't see how a late model 1968 -1977 beetle body be mounted on a pre 1965 pan with the king and linkpin suspension. I got a 1965 bug now still the stock pan and a rebuilt 40 horse.
Thank you I like to hear more this to update me bec iam have'g 1969 bettle and it's 1.6 but't pistons ar 1.7 I have gone for long destin yet bec of perdmidit
You bet. I have limited space so I just wanted to move the car into place then take the body back off. I love your channel and watch it frequently. Can’t wait to see you work on the new/old beetle.
Hi What's the better way to do a patch? My Karmann Ghia needs patching (If I'm honest I need new floor pans) but I will try patching for now. I don't trust the stock or replacement floor pans as they are so thin. Especially since I want to add aftermarket seats. Thanks for the video.
weird thing, I have dreams about re-doing my volkswagen beetle periodically. have no idea why. I have had the car all my life but dreaming about it? weird.
@@FixinBugsNStuff nah I'm actually bored with owning the beetle. I've had it since 1978 when I was born. I just keep it cos the pops is still around. Once they are gone I'm going to sell it right away.
This brings back memories of working in my dads garage. Great video.

I really enjoyed your video good job

Sure thing. If you are in the area.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to show what needs to be done and how to do it. Thank you
Thank you for your detailed video. I just a 64 that needs new pan halves.
I've been pondering doing this to mine but wasn't sure what to expect. Now I do! Thanks so much for the insight!
Glad this could help. Thanks for watching.

I own also a 66 beetle. I bouht the car 26 years ago and i stil love the car.

Really great video. I applaud you doing this with no help.
Not easy but, I want to show how others can do it themselves.
I agree if you did this by yourself props brah👍
I need to remove a 72 super beetle body. The general process is the same , thanks! Very helpful
Glad I could help. You can do it!
As long as the job gets done and done right it doesn’t matter how you do it
Good luck with her....along for the ride....👍🏴
Thank you for the compliment. More to come!
you should support the body between the doors so it doesn't bend
Swap-a-roo! Back again! 😀
Great job on that new pan! The old pan can be refurbished and reused also.
You bet!

Just changed my floor pans with the body on pain n the ass but got it done

Thanks for the video it's going to come in handy.😁😁
Pretty easy for a do-it-yourselfer.

Good eye. I should have just restored the 66 pan but, I already had 60 pan ready to go.
Seen pans get fibreglass on rusted serfaces too keep costs low. Both my bugs has that i can do it for cheaper. Bought them both with dodgy pan repairs
'66 is the best year.
VW is my favourite car I love to have it it's sound but everything is super

I got a good deal on the pan and tunnel though it was a link pin setup. Next one I will not swap but, fix.
THE BEST BEETLE TYPE HALF 60 s MODEL !!
Totally.
Come on guys they all need love.

I've found on my own automotive projects - finding all the damned bolts is one of the hardest parts!
Yep just got to stay organized. It’s hard.
Awesome job
Thank you.
man I hope your pulling back off that body and fixing those rusted out channels.

KlassicFab makes some really nice thick ones. Check them out. www.klassicfab.com
Impressive.. Isn't it easier to address the rust on the body without the pan in place??
I had another pan/chassis ready to go. It was put on there to move the car.
Where can I get a complete replacement chassis like the one shown here?! Thanks
You can look on Samba or Facebook marketplace.
What is the better way to patch a floor pan. You mentioned about 2mins in
You can patch your floors using the sheet metal that other vendors sell. Usually they are a direct fit with a little bit of work.
@@FixinBugsNStuff I heard they have a battery pan patch kit. Ever do a video on doing that job?
Mine looks way worst, I’m missing both pans, I just Fred flynstone it and keep my feet up high
Hopefully you can repair it.
@@FixinBugsNStuff I’m replacing heater channel’s and pans :)
Thinking of doing the same thing to my 69, where did you find a roller?
Swap meets or marketplace.
Why didn't you take the opportunity to replace the heater channels while you had the body removed from the pan ?
I did later on.
Never understood why people blur out an license plate.
Why wouldn't you stick a screw in the end of gasoline when taking out the gas tank
Your jack stand is ready to tip over
wow that was cool
Nailed it! Good job!
Hey thanks. Sorry about your dad. I tried to reach out to you to say that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
That is 1966 bug titled in 1967 because a true 1967 bug had 12volt.
Also does the motor have to be out?
Nope
You need to do the rust repair before installing it on your new pan. You know your VIN numbers don't match now.. Leave the bumpers on and lift it.
Nice car
Just found your channel and brilliant content. Thanks for explaining as you go 👍 vwcoco-U.K.
Thanks for tuning in.
Sucks when their is no extra hand
Now all you need is a new body 😂🤣😂🤫
