  • After trying and reviewing the OnePlus Open for a second time, and comparing to the Samsung Galaxy Fold 5, I decided to return it (OnePlus Open) AGAIN! Here's my final pros and cons of the OnePlus Open!

It's a great phone! I just took another path back with a slab phone again. 😊

Cool video, though it baffles me that the open feeling cheap, perhaps how light it is vs foldables? Lol anyway I'm still sorry I'm love with my open. Happy new year man and glad you gave it another try!

Truth is if I had the cash I'd keep all of them, haha! Gotta pick my battles though. I'm going to give the S24 Ultra a shot, them likely back to another foldable.

Overall i firmly believe my one plus open beats the fold 5 and pixel fold hands down. Its better in so many categories. Great vid very insightful 👍

It does...Samsung needs to up their game for foldables.

You make great points that other reviews don't mention, such as the Fold 5 retaining more value for trade ins and a more stable support system for repairs. I think I would prefer the Open without those two factors in play, but as a Fold 5 owner, I am glad I went with that device to retain more value for future upgrades and repairs.

Yeah, you just can't beat Samsung for Samsung trades...

So odd. It's actually the strongest build quality. I've seen it survive (in videos) a drop from a moving bicycle ride and 1000 foot drone drop into a pool with no cases.
The camera bump is brilliant and a dig at the square iPhone stovetop. That's why they're configured in reverse. I'm proud of the Hasselblad branding and that it looks like a real camera.
Without the case, to me it feels as not toy like but more like an iPhone Pro that unfolds.
You didn't really get to understand the camera. Something you can't do in only two weeks. It takes great night shots (I live in upstate NY) and even does its own version of "best take" where it takes a burst and then produces the best one for you. The Hasselblad camera science truly makes for fantastic video and photos over Samsung. Samsung has always chased the standard "point & shoot' criteria that iPhone users do and you'll never learn to be a photographer that way. That doesn't mean that you can't do great point and shoot shots with the OnePlus... You just have better lenses and photographic power than a Samsung Fold.
I open it to show people in bars the awesome pic it took of them or to play games like call of duty or PUBG. I stopped carrying my 12" tablet out with me when I know I'm going to be away from home because of this phone.
I'll admit I hate the Facebook placeholder video loss when you open it.... But that's probably being dressed in their upcoming Android 14 release.
I don't resell or flip my phones. I keep them when I commit to their design. That's why I didn't go through my original thought to get a Pixel 8 Pro just to trade it in for Pixel Fold 2 because I thought Fold 1 was a bust but I wanted those features in their camera but I'm happy with the OnePlus opens camera and I think it still takes better pictures then the Samsung.
Camera-wise? It's still the 4th best camera phone in the MKBHD scientific camera test and it's still been voted the best foldable overall by.... Well... Everyone. Plus it's rated for 10x the folds as Samsung at 1 million
I must admit though... I'm not a Samsung fan. I hate the bloated One UI and I tend to try and buy products from anyone but Samsung. I've had 4 HTC phones and 2 LG dual screen phones and couldn't stand the crease and skinny outer screen on Samsung Folds.
I don't think you gave it enough time.

I appreciate the well thought out comment! And agreed, you're probably right. I will tell you 100% that I miss the Open Camera in daylight..man it was second to none.

How was the hinge on OnePlus versus Fold 5? I've heard that the hinge on the Fold 5 which I have is much more durable and can hold all angles where as the OnePlus cannot is that true?

    • @DSarDarkstar
      @DSarDarkstar 7 месяцев назад +1

Oneplus Open used 69 parts comprised of carbon fiber and titanium screws. It lacks a few angles but it's strong, light, tough and does laptop and tent mode.

Truth is they both held just fine for me...the Open wanted to pop Open a little earlier, but not an issue.

The z fold 6 is the reason I am skipping the s24 ultra since I have the s23 ultra. Based on the prototype the z fold 6 will be next level. Also Huawei mate x5 and Honor Magic V2 porsche edition might be the best foldables of all time

At 6:29 I stopped watching when both of your hands vanished! Weird! That and the fact I've gotten a "returned" phone when I have purchased a new one, so it really bothers me when I think about how you acquire your phones for the videos. What you are doing reduces new phone stock for the rest of us and it results in some people receiving a used phones when they expected new phone.

I'm just a dude who loves tech and enjoy making content sharing my experience. I buy these on my own, and I usually loose money when I trade them. I'm trying some new software for cool backgrounds, that's all. Trying to dial it in. Noticed the same thing after I posted it...bit of a whoops in my editing. But again, just playing around with backgrounds.

It's technically a 3rd Gen fold as it's really the Oppo Find N3 rebranded. The Pixel Fold is first Gen as well... Only they bought the screen (and that hideous trench crease) from Samsung.
OnePlus is winning all the awards though and with good reason.... It's better
