Id love to see more competitions! Could you do a IBJJF comp?? Also maybe a vid on why you stopped competing after whitebelt? How about a trip down to Austin?
Shoot. I wish I won my bracket. Took silver. Belt looked pretty damn cool to me. Would have loved to win it. So congrats on the win man. Be proud of it!
@@Jiu-JitsuJourney257 thanks bra . Took me a few nagas to finally get it . I ain’t no pro so this is as far as my jiu jitsu competition goes as black belt and it’s been a goal of mine since white belt . You’ll get one ! And if you’re ever in Oahu hawaii. Come train at trilogy martial arts 🤙🏽
NGL, the fact that you have not competed since you were a white belt makes me feel so much better about myself! Lol. I'm an older hobbyist blue belt. I competed once as a white belt, and a couple times years before that in Judo. And I currently have no intention of ever competing again. I occasionally feel bad about that. But if someone like you can get as good at Jujitsu as you are without really doing much competing, that's a huge relief! 😂
same, due other life priorities it is very hard for me to fully dedicate to jiujitsu that´s why it suprised me that tyler hasnt competed since white belt
May I ask you why did you stop competing? I love BJJ, currently like a 3 month old blue belt, we are a very small BJJ school. I have competed on white belt twice and I don't really like it that much. I do not mind being under pressure but the actual BJJ is so different from a normal training sesh and I kinda do not like that + some people are just straight up bozos and I'm not risking and injury (I'm not made from glass but you get me) for a 3$ medal. Do you think you can be a legit belt/practitioner without competing?
I paid like $130 (as a teen, so I was broke) and had two matches against two of my teammates. That was a nail in the coffin to me when I could do it for free at the gym. It was extra sour because I come from wrestling with 100s of well organized tournaments with plenty of matches. I finally did this tournament since it had other black belts and a full bracket. It was fun! Also yes, you can be legitimate without competition, but those that do compete will always be shown in a higher light.
@@TylerSpanglerlocal competitions are always going to be shallow. If you enter an IBJJF open at your weight at black belt you’re guaranteed at least 3-4 matches, especially no gi

I just think that in grappling you can be extremely good and you dont have to compete. At the end of the day, you are testing your level against other grapplers everyday at the gym

greetings, please make another video about bjj instructors. i have trained with many all over the globe. most didn't like 'creontes', over-charged and preached bjj being the master art. some wanted me to introduce my lady friends to my "master", others owe me money, others scabbed whey protein off of me. one was accused of sexual harassment, another was sleeping with one of his students, another was going to bars looking for drunk women (he is a sober evangelical "christian". to be honest, i had only 2 cool humble instructors. the rest of them were pompous ego-fuelled a$$holes. thats why i quit. i prefer silat and KM...no pyjamas, no stupid injuries and no silly rules.

For wrestlers transitioning to BJJ. Inmate control (which is a fantastic name) = far wrist control and half.
