I think that it got caught up in the FINSAC debacle of the 1990's, and was on the sale roster of Jamaica Redevelopment Ltd, but no takers. It's on prime tourism lands, and I'm surprised someone has not gobbled it up, level it and build a five star ✨ hotel. Thanks for the walk through

That Hotel I remember quite well when I lived in Jamaica. At the time is was operated by an Enlishman known as: Hugh Maitland Walker. He was also the Managing Director of company called Tourwise Limited, a tour company which did ground handling and, transportation. I had the privilege of working for him. Sadly, he had passed away after my emigration from Jamaica on the 27th of October 2006 and, he was buried at a church in Sumerset England. He had two children I remember also with his wife Monika Maitland Walker. Pity the Hotel ended up like that. Thanks for the update Nick.
Remember that hotel very well, i use to work there back in the nineties as a security guard before i emigrated to the United Kingdom, it was a wonderful and beautiful place back then
A few months ago I drove past the entrance road and when I saw the sign I said to my driver, I wonder if that hotel is still in business. My youngest sister worked there as a housekeeper. It used to be a lovely place.

A good renovation will give that place a new start , I don't have the money now to buy it but I claim that abandoned hotel in the mighty name of Jesus !
This was a popular hotel when I was growing up. A friend worked there. I thought it was still operating. A nice place to spend time and relax. It needs much investment to bring it back to its glory state.
I knew a lot of it's former staff, because my father worked there before l was born but he retired when l was about fifteen. I also did an internship there in year 2000, so this hotels held a lot memory for family. I remember going to the Christmas party with my parents when l was a kid.
It is a shame to see one of the top hotels from the 50s and 60s come to such a stage. Was a very classy small hotel. Stayed there back in the days. I knew it was Shaw Park once you hit thw beach. Could hardly believe. That hotel started to go down since Ernest Smatt had it. stayed there in the last stages. could hardly get whiskey. just rum and coke.

So sad to hear. That was where we had our honeymoon 2007! We returned a few years later and noticed the downturn. For an all-inclusive hotel, we had a very small food choice. We were taken to a riverside property that they also owned, nearby in Ocho Rios. I have fond memories of the staff especially the elderly lady who cleaned our room, Ms Hazel. I will have to go look at the pictures again, with my husband 😢

Remember delivering delayed Tourist bags in that area in the 70s, was a good proud time of My beautiful Jamaica. I stayed a weekend at the Runaway bay hotel prize won from the Bauxite family day picnic it was in the 70s.

What a shame what a fantastic spot it’s in if only sum one called do it up I am sure people would be going out there again especially with tourism going up in Jamaica we have been 8 times now from the U.K. we stay at the riu negril we have been twice this year the last time was when hurricane beryl hit in second week we were there we have a lot of friends there now Jamaica is now are second home
Its easier to rebuild that than to renovate, too many things to fix, just gut it and start from scratch. Im surprised people have not moved in. Especially those struggling to afford rent. They could move in and clean up the place and keep it clean, they could have a good life there for years if they dont involve themselves in criminal activity that will attract the police. That place could house several families.
I stayed at that hotel in 2006 and it was very nice. The owner was also staying there at the time. I didn’t realise it was no longer in operation. I am very surprised to hear that it’s been abandoned!
@@lynfoster7870 It all depends on the Will that was made by the previous owner. My parents and grandparents passed away and still having problems with their wills. Jamaican government rules and regulations are based on the old colonial British system, which caused years of litigation to settle. Sometimes, these people, especially if they live abroad, just give up and prefer to let it rot.

Our Environmental laws should borrow from the best practices in Cuba. We should have restrictions on how close we can build to the water's edge.

@nickwilltravel It's important when we have money to really think on the long term instead of the short term. I understand that person passed on, and no one continues that dream. So sad!
But I still see growth in that hotel if a group buys that hotel and continues that same dream. God bless you, and remember Jesus loves you, and he's the only way to salvation.

I didn’t now he died. I remember going to this hotel back in the days and even meeting Smatt himself. Seeing him in his cowboy boots. He used to drive this bright yellow Hummer.. cool bredda

I knew about royal palm eastatt e i didn't know it close. down it's such a nice hotel the beach and everything so why some body don't open it well may be it's a big reason check it out
