Instead of using a drill bit, we would heat up a sharpe rod to poke hole in ABS plastic . No ripping or tearing and also leaves a thick ring of material around the edge for the hardware.
Never heard of that, interesting for sure!
I’m just here for the rippin and the tearin
This one wins!
A piece of advice when dealing with after market side skirts and double sided tape... Make sure to heat and form the skirts to fit on body so the tape doesn't have to fight the skirt pulling away from the body. Heat the skirt and bend it slightly further than where it sits flat. Also, 3M makes an adhesion promoter. Make sure you use that and the widest, not thickest tape to have the most hold as possible. I had a 2005 Chevy Colorado with a xenon body kit on it. It had to be taken off 5 times of the course of 16 years due to the double sided tape slowly coming off from the elements.
Solid, thanks!
That electrical tape on the wires you terminated is going to fall apart and cause a short eventually. Use some adhesive lined heat shrink.
Haven't heard of that, I'll look into it, thanks!
oh my god that front bumper change made a world of difference to the appearance, good choice!
Agreed, thanks!
Came in to the channel for the e36 content but stayed for the Porsche series! Keep it up Matt!
Great video. Came for the ZR2 stayed for the Porsche.
I'm glad you stuck around!
I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop when you find out what that "ugly" front bumper is and what its worth. Keep going. Great progress.
Matt, you are missing the front impact beam ( bumper) You should get one and fit it for safety and it will fit with that new spoiler. Ps Love the project.
I had no idea! I'll look into that.
@@matt13ross Came here to say this, also missing the radiator air ducting pieces. One for each side radiator and one for the center radiator. Best of luck with the car, i bought the "cheapest 996TT" back in august 2021 and have been on a quest of fixing it up so i can feel your pain to an extent
Good day when you drop a new Porsche video 🤙🏼
I got lucky with my 986, it came with gt3 front bumper, gt3 side skirts, and a pretty tasteful wing. Glad you finally got rid of that bumper from hell. Super excited to see where the build continues!
This car has so much style. I could look at it for days!
When you do the final application of the sides skirts make sure to use 3m adhesion promotion pads. Automotive body panel tape should do the trick!
For sure!
We want MOREsche of the Porsche!
Keep going buddy, car is getting the way its supposed to be
OMG, IVE BNEEN WAITING FOR THE NEW BUMPER SINCE EPISODE 1!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH AND CONGRATS!!!!!!
look forward to new releases - keep it coming - great work
that spare tire isnt as skinny as u think, the sidewalls fold in to make it more compact i guess but if inflated they look pretty normal
love the Porsche content, keep it up
Porsche content is best content
Looking good maybe I’ll choose some new side skirts and bumbers for my 996.2
Really enjoying this build! Congrats on getting rid of that horrendous front bumper. Huge improvement! Keep up the great work man.
Looking good man! always satisfying to see enthusiasts de-ricing beautiful cars.
Hi I have a 2002 Carrera4s got to say this car was gone until you saved it 👍great job
I absolutely LOVE the bumper you took off so much more than the replacement you’ve bought. It’s a stunning look compared to the replacement
I'll sell it to you!
@Matt Ross I'll buy it but for real comment back if you still have it
Enjoying the series Mat. 7:04. Double check you still have factory front fog lamps working as part of headlamp unit. Previous clown may have messed with OEM fog lamp wiring to get those nasty ones in old bumper working.
Awesome upgrades! Looking forward to the next episodes!
Great video, getting addicted to the series, keep up!
Thank you! You’ve got a bunch of videos to catch up on.
Amazing finish 👌💯loving the porsche content💯🔥🙌can't wait too see the complete finish🙌🙌
nice...and some great comments as well.
And I've been waiting for this video, thank you, chief!
Looking fresh! Keep it up.
Got the same bumper! My shop hated working on it though. Lol
😂
I cannot unhear Jason Sudeikis! Love this series!
Shouldn't it have a aluminium bumper buffer on the inside of the front bumper? The car have it behind the rear bumper.
The bars for attaching one at front are still attached on the car. It was probably removed when that shitty front bumber was mounted. 😅
Je confirme ! Il manque le renfort aluminium entre les deux supports fixé en bout de longerons ! Indispensable pour la protection de la face avant (radiateurs en priorité des petits choc) contre les petits chocs
I guess so! I'm looking in to that now.
As a Philly guy it only looks bad from a Yellow and Black perspective if you live near any Steeler fans (they’re everywhere)!!!! Go Birds!!
Great project! The 996TT is a near future classic for sure. One tip about the sideskirts (got a -02 996TT) I would stronglu suggest buying the original lower side skirts from the dealer, it´s the same as the GT2 use and they are cheap, 200USD or something. That will complete the original GT2 look. Just a tip! Looking forward for the next video on this project!! Keep it up!
But will they cover the damage above the skirts that I have?
Keep up the great work man! Loving the content 👍🏻
Appreciate it!
Man that thing is barely hacked together.
Agreed
Nice work! I'd be interested in hearing what those aftermarket parts cost. I've got a 996 C2 Cabriolet that needs some love too. I'm rebuilding the engine, on my channel at the moment, but cosmetics must be tended to at some point.
All your video's are awesome but we want more Porsche content when is possible.Greetings
All these changes are giving me inner peace. Any plans for the tinted tail lights?
I want to replace them, but not sure with what or when.
What material these body parts are made off?
Crazy flexible. I only know the fibrecompound stuff (which I did produce on my own for some time even), but those parts look so incredibly wabbly?
I like the Porsche Content (thats why I subscribed here) - hope to see a lot more 🙂
They are polyurethane. VERY flexible.
Excellent job!!
Thanks!
Oh man, FINALLY a front bumper replacement 🥳🥳🥳🥳
Finally!!!
@@matt13ross and the fit seemed fine! I got the Precision Porsche one and mine fit ok. I wanted to see the your one burn lol
I may destroy it who knows lol.
@@matt13ross lol
Bumper look and fit are great. Side skirts seem like floppy junk. I'd have found better quality or just fiberglass repaired the others.
The problem is, the body is damaged ABOVE the old side skirts, so a lot more work would be needed.
Been waiting on this!!
Excellent
Nice job @mattross! Coming along nicely. How happy were you to rip that POS front bumper out?! And when I say rip, I mean snip! 😅
Very happy! I may run it over lol
Great content once again. 👍🇨🇦
Thanks 👍
Since starting this series, ive had my porsche 986 from misfiring, to running like a dream, to then days later the oil pump went and now i need to get a new engine/rebuild :( Feel like im on the same boat as you
That sucks!! Hopefully you can get it back and running soon.
5:20 😂
Kentucky called, they want their styling back please.
I'm lost
Here and accounted for.
(Just ignore my tardiness, again) I don't feel tardy 🎶
Did I miss if you were painting the bumper yellow or, the whole car something completely different??? A wrap perhaps??
Yellow, love the color! Though a wrap in the future would be cool too.
that's dope, brother. good on ya for resurrecting this one. these cars deserve good homes.
😂you got a bumper!
YUP!!
@@matt13ross it looks good, as do those side skirts. Nice score all around!
Id be interested in buying the old bumper.
Gimme an offer!
Should it have a label on it somewhere?
Awesome job! Have you got rid of the one you took off? I would be interested in buying it if the price is reasonable.
Nope, make an offer and it's yours!
@@matt13ross Matt. Have you sold the yellow bumper that came with yout 996 turbo?
I hope you wrap it. Maybe Miami blue or something. It’s hideous in yellow
Honestly, much as I love Miami blue, Yellow is such a classic color on a Porsche. I think it looks perfectly good in Yellow
I love the yellow!
@@matt13ross okay then it’s a keeper. I would change it but it’s no mine.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Hey. You figure out your vac / boost leak ?
Working on it.
What kind of plastic is that new front bumper?
Poly
@@matt13ross Polyurethane is pretty difficult to paint, because it is so flexible. Been there, done that🙄 But knowing professional painter knows how to do it. Primer, paint and clear coat needs couple of additives to make it work
Dirch the all black wheels. The only acceptable black wheels are Fuchs or Porsche Sport Classic wheels.
I did lol
@@matt13ross, good man! Massive respect for all the work you’ve done. I had a 996 and loved it-I love yours more. Of course, now I have a 997.2 Targa 4S that I love. Keep up the great work.
Where did you get the bumper from? It looks great
NR Auto!
@@matt13ross many thanks
Please make the side air ducts match the Car. It looks too cheesy with them being black like that. Make the top of the wing match to.
Possibly in the future. Too many other things to fix first.
Man, too much criticism to the previous owner and its wiring and you put a flimsy aftermarket not oem bumper… and stating that you paid the porsche tax… only things I didnt like about the video.
Idk man, the whole car was NOT cared for properly.
@@matt13ross it shows indeed… I can agree on that.
hey man you still have your old wheels off the porsche ? I have ayoutube channel and ima building a car was wondering if we could talk about them wheels?
Buy em!
@@matt13ross can we talk ?
Yes. Send a DM on Instagram or email.
Matt, want to sell me the turn signal indicators from your old bumper? I think they are aftermarket if they function as DRLs, not just turn signals (please confirm). They should come with little boxes.
I’m gonna try to sell the whole bumper. Or destroy it.
Pleeeease get rid of the black on the wing and air ducts. It looks very tacky.
Not a high priority right now, maybe eventually.
Why not oem side skirts , they don’t cost that much
They wouldn’t cover the damage above the side skirts.
LOL, the previous owner is gonna have zero self-esteem left after your relentless bashing of his tenure, LOL! But they kind of deserves it lol.
Wow, that front bumper was worse than I thought. Good riddance.
Terrible!
You ordered the wrong color....lol
My favorite channell,, yeehhhhhhhhhh LOL :)
.
hell yeah that front bumper is way better but sorry this rear wiper is ugllyyy lol real Gt2's aren't equipped with it and it seem that this turbo will like a Gt2 so nooo rear wipeerr please haha
What if it rains? lol
@@matt13ross oohhh i did it on my 996 c2 i think it's useless haha but if u like it ofc but with the GT2 wing ufff
