    I wish I could find chicken that cheap! I have heard they are dumping chicken because of bird flu (another pandemic) and a rancher told us beef (hamburger) is going over $7.00 a pound. I want the America back that I grew up in.

    • @azgardenlover370
      @azgardenlover370 4 месяца назад

      You mean plandemic? Apparently they have been studying how to make the bird flu transmissible to humans in that same lab, funded by us again, since 2022. The mortality rate with that is estimated to be 1/3 of the world's population. People, not birds.

    We had a steer processed and split it with family. The hamburger is way too lean. I bought a pork butt, grounded it up and mixed with the beef. I'll be making taco meat and meat loafs to freeze for later. It's a way to save on beef and extend it for meals.
    Thanks Jinne

      We bought some local grass fed beef. Great quality, can be a bit lean so we just mix a little olive oil into the meat and it works very well.

    I have been rendering the trimmings and skin of the meat I purchase and butcher myself. Chicken fat is schmaltz, pork fat lard and beef fat is tallow. Sometimes I only get 4 oz but with the price of butter and oil I figure it's a good back up.

    There was a recent ground beef recall from Walmart for some states so be sure to check to see if you have any on hand involved from this recall . Also on the lab grown or fake chicken watch the labels, some stores putting the fake next to the real stuff and will say made WITH chicken not 100% chicken.

    When Sams have the whole pork loins on sale, we have the butcher there cut it for pork chops and take home and vacumn seal portions. Save $. Also a local butcher shop has been having whole chickens on sale for $5.00 each and we also got 40lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts for $39.99. Got 2 cases and froze. I’ve never canned meat before I’m curious how it changes the taste, texture. We also purchase a 1/2 side of beef every fall. Good Luck everyone. 🙏🙏

    I just canned 7 pints of beef that I got on sale. Put about 10lbs of chicken in the freezer. Canned 7 quarts of potatoes, carrots and onions. Canned 4 pints of sweet potatoes. More to can tomorrow . Got to grab stuff when it's on sale!

    Our local Albertson's had boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs for $1.47#. But they limited you to 5#. I bought those & canned some in chunks. I can use it for chicken salad, chicken tacos, chicken Alfredo or chicken soup. I buy the pork roasts like you do & cut it into chops. So much cheaper that way.

    In our tiny town in the Rockies, we have 1 grocery store, a Dollar General and a Family Dollar. Today I stopped in at the Family Dollar store, and they had cleaning products on sale. A huge 40 ounce bottle of Ajax dish liquid was $1.25, and a smaller bottle of Palmolive dish soap was 63 cents. I picked up a few, but might go back to get some more. As I checked out, I noticed a sale bin by the cash register. It had boxes of Nature Valley soft baked cinnamon oatmeal bars for $1.25 per box, and Reese's peanut butter cupcakes (never saw those before!) for the same price. I bought all they had, a total of 7 boxes of goodies. The cashier was glad that I bought them - I guess he wanted them to be gone!! I'm always on the lookout for bargains. I like to atay stocked up, and I like to give things to the senior center. They will enjoy those cupcakes!!

    I have been going to Sams early and getting their marked down beef about once a week. The cheaper cuts average about four dollars a lb discounted, which included chuck roast. They tend to be tough, but I can or suis vide them and that takes care of that. I have also been processing pork shoulders when they are on sale. I make bacon and sausage from them and make broth out of the bones.
    Don't forget to put the skin of the chicken in your bone broth.

    • @azgardenlover370
      @azgardenlover370 4 месяца назад

      Dont throw out the bones after you make your broth either. Dry them back out in a low oven and crush them into bone meal for the garden. No waste at all that way.

    I am stocked, but I can't turn down really good sales or healthy markdowns. I thought I would stop pressure canning but I keep running into sales and clearances. I recently ran into store clearances of Bob Evans' roll sausage, (I also did not buy anywhere near all of them), and I will brown and can it,along with some meats.
    I also keep bones and scraps to make broths.
    Or Vegetable scaps for veg broth.

If I buy meat in bulk, I will divide it up and vacuum seal it, and even if I buy pkgd meat at the store, I vacuum seal before it goes in the freezer.

    I am cautious about eating Chicken since the chickens are fed fillers to fatten them up and not feeding them nutrients from grubs and other things which promote healthy eating for them and contain ntrients for us which consume them. I have been becoming ill after eating grain fed beef? I have eaten it many times and never had a problem with grain fed beef? I ave turned to grass fed, which is more expensive and am fine.
    I also eat fresh Caught Salmon instead of farm raised.
    And Lamb meat. I wonder how to preserve meat in beef lard or pork lard, if i need to precook it or place it raw in the jar of lard? Such methods were used before refrigeration was invented. And they also used cold water in a special below ground containment. And made jerky & pemican.
