    Neil, I can't thank you enough for this video! My small channel has been experiencing a lot of growth lately, and I was worried that it would be vulnerable on my old personal gmail. You went above and beyond to describe each and every detail that goes into making a brand account, all the benefits of having one, and the process of transferring channel content. The editing was tight, the steps were thorough, and the information rings true, 3 years after publishing!

      Yes, it's a huge scary step so good luck - I'm really glad I did it 3 years on.

    I have watched at least 20 videos so far on this topic and this video is by far the best one on the topic. This may seem straightforward, but it's not very intuitive and can actually be confusing as to what exactly you are doing. Thanks for putting this into perspective.

    Hello Neil Mossey, New sub. This seems to be exactly what I need. I recently realized that somehow I have a personal RUclips channel with my first name (think one of my sons might have helped me create it years ago, but I never did anything with it). I am now thinking about starting a RUclips channel for business, and it seems like I need to rebrand the existing personal channel. By the way, your smile and enthusiasm is simply beautiful and uplifting; this is the second of your videos I am watching and your smile brings a smile to my face too. Thank you. :)

    we trying to do this move a channel to other gmail, but there is a step which is not in your video, something about opt out, we found it and did as it says but its still wants to be opt out... any ideas ? thanks in advance

      Thanks for the kind message.
      I actually had problems with this after I moved my account when I wanted to add additional owners to the channel.
      It's explained (not very well) here:

      In the section:
      "Use channel permissions in RUclips Studio with a brand account"
      I would opt out - which means the permissions are the same as a Brand Account, rather than the same as RUclips permissions. Apparently you can do more in a Brand Account.
      It took a day of emails to RUclips support to find out why I couldn't transfer ownership of the channel because I didn't opt out.
      There's more here - but sorry, it's a very complicated process which I'm not sure I still fully understand.

      If you opt out you can always change back if you prefer.

    Yesterday I did something similar as shown your video: I moved my main account, which was a brand account, to a personal account. Everything went as expected but then I changed my profile picture in the Branding page. The new pic updated right away on my channel page and the upper right corner. For some reason though the picture has trouble updating on the Search page, if I search my channel or my videos, and the video page itself. I experimented with some solutions and because of that there's now four different profile pics that show up in all the different parts of RUclips. Did you have any problems with your profile picture when moving your channel?

      Oh wow, your the first person I've met who has moved the other way from brand to personal!
      Yes, the profile picture was a little screwy for a while - it does seem to take a week or two to settle down.
      Also, I think in my case there's a weird 'cache' thing where what I am seeing isn't necessarily what the world and new viewers see.
      Have you tried looking at these pictures on 'incognito mode' or 'private mode' or from another youtube account to check the same problem is there?
      If it has been a few weeks and the problem remains I've found that contacting RUclips support has been really helpful - they've fixed things like this over chat.

      But... for me, I think it just takes a while for all of RUclips's servers to update...

      @@neilmossey Thanks for the reply. I also noticed that some of the profile pictures had updated when I searched for my videos in incognito mode. I'll just assume that it will be a matter of time. Thank you once again. I can't contact RUclips's customer support directly because I'm not a partner so this has been very helpful.

      @Necropants If I remember correctly just to the URL shown in the video at 02:09. Be sure that you're on your brand account. Click the link in the Move Account section and follow the instructions.
      You can also just go to RUclips home page, click on "History" on the panel on the left side and then click on the "Comments" located on the right side. From there you can delete every comment but it will take some time because it needs to be done individually.

      The personal channel is there waiting for you, and even seems to retain the original watch history.

      And felt like a scary move but still really pleased it's separate from my personal account and means I can sign it over to my family more easily if needed!

    Hey Neil, great video, thanks. I moved my channel from personal to brand 4 days ago and it still hasn't reflected. So far, the only things that got transferred were my subscribers. Im panicking, I had just gotten monetized and was super difficult to get to that point. Any advice please?

      @@ojedstudio Thanks - do you have a link to the original channel, the one you're transferring from? Are those videos still live? Definitely contact RUclips if possible because they might have systems down for maintenance or something - good luck

    Just had a look at my "Move Channel" bit and looks like mines already a Brand channel, My option says "Move channel to your Google Account or to a different brand account" I suppose that's good? haha

      Yes - that sounds perfect Tony - so now you can add people to your channel if you ever want to do that in the future. Future proofed!

    H Neil - our current channel has hundreds of videos that we have uploaded. I want to change to a brand account and just want to be very sure....once I finalise this all of those videos will be transferred to the brand account. Is that correct or not?

      Thanks for the kind question - and I know this is a massive move, which is terrifying.
      For me, it's not so much that the videos are moved, rather than they all get a new overall home. So all the videos stay together and have a new Brand Account avatar.
      As I've experienced, losing all of my comments on my own and other peoples videos was a huge loss, but everything else was intact.
      My personalized URL was transferred, but seemed to be offered in an odd way, so I contacted RUclips support and they fixed that instantly.
      Hope this helps and good luck if you decide to take the plunge - I don't regret it because I do not want the channel to be linked to a personal account and can now have more options for people to work on the channel without it being linked to my personal address and other Google services
      PS to be sure to back up everything that you have - including all the videos - you can go to takeout.google.com
      It takes a few hours, but you can back up all your videos, comments, descriptions etc etc etc
      I'd highly advise doing this, but in the end I've not needed to use any of it.

    On my end it says it will delete the videos and subscribers as well. But it doesn't say that on yours. Does this mean they changed things up?

      Thanks for the kind question and hope I'm understanding your situation correctly.
      It did give me that message when referring to the 'shell' channel that the channel move was going to replace. The channel I was moving retains the videos and subscribers, and the placeholder channel it bumps off will lose any videos and subscribers. But as it's a newly created channel (for me), there weren't any vids or subs to lose.
      Hope this is helpful, and sorry if the move is confusing (I found it very confusing!)

      @Neil Mossey ok so I did it. And a message pops up asking me if I'm sure I want to move and update my channel but there is no button to press yes. And it gives a list of things I will keep and not keep. Does this mean it is already working?

      Just go into your channel settings and you can upload the same avatar as before.

    im having this problem about moving channel. It wont push thru after 10 minutes of message that it will move the channel. I cant also see my NEW Created brand to Switch options.
    Then i noticed, that I am moving an already Brand Account to a new brand acct. Isnt it possible to move it?

    I have my main google channel with about 500 subs, and an existing old brand account with about 2500 subs. I want to merge the two channels so I get those 2500 subs over to my main channel, resulting in about 3000 subs in total. Wil this happen if I transfer my main channel to the brand channel? If I understand correctly... the brand channel will merge and become one with my main channel under my current main channels name if I do this? And I won't lose my videos or any of the 500 subs I already have???

      Thanks for the kind question -- I would double check with RUclips support but I'm 99% sure we can't merge channels...
      If your main google channel is a 'non-brand' channel, transferring it to a brand channel would either create a new brand channel or replace/delete the existing brand channel...
      Hope this isn't disappointing or hope you find a way round this.
      If it's any comfort, I removed 150 videos from this channel and put them onto a new brand channel, and the number of views each month for most of the videos is nearly identical to the traffic they had on the old channel, even though they all started from zero... But I'm not sure this helps as it's all about combining the subs...
      Either way, good luck with building the subs on the new channel, I'm sure it'll explode with good subs who are into what you're doing now!

      PS I'm sure you've tried this, but have you tried promoting your videos on your new channel as community posts on your old channel?
      So the new videos on the new channel are plugged to the 2500 subs on the old channel?
      Might be worth an experiment???

    After I change my personal channel to brand account, I couldn't transfer the custom URL ALONG with it. Even worse, AFTERER 1 month later, I cannot still found the URL customization option on my brand account. What should I DO NOW, PLEASE?

      Hi Tmhrt - don't worry - I had a similar problem months later and it's totally fixable.
      Contact RUclips support, they were able to fix it over a keyboard chat.

    If i transfer my youtube channel that has 3k subs to channel that has 1k would the subsrcibers combine ? Resulting in 4k subs ? I sound dumb but yeah

      thanks for asking -- I hope I've understood your question correctly:
      If you move the 3k subs channel to the 1k channel, I think you'd lose all the videos on that 1k channel and you'd also lose the 1k subscribers because the 3k channel would replace it - if that makes sense.
      It is a shame we can't combine the channels.
      What I've tried is moving the videos around, so re-uploading videos from one channel onto a new channel, and they seem to be getting the same kind of traffic as before...
      Anyway, good luck with what you decide!

    Hi there. So ... I created a brand account a long time ago because I didn't know how to rename my main account. I've been using the brand account for probably a couple of years now. I use my xbox to watch videos so I am signed into my brand account. The issue is that some videos give me a message that says sign into main account to verify age. This is so annoying because to do this on the xbox is very long winded and I'm fed up of doing it. So I either want to transfer all my likes, saves, playlists and watch history to my main account and then delete the brand accont so I can rename my my main account to the same as my now deleted brand account. Or .. "promote" my brand account to be my main account as I don't care if I lose anything on my main account. Please help as I'm pulling my hair out with it now. Thanks in advance

      Hi so sorry to hear this and think I understand the issue - thanks for the kind question.
      As you've probably found out you can't transfer your likes, saves etc to the main account
      But you can download them if you want to store them using takeout.google.com
      I wonder if you can move your brand account to be a 'personal' account - maybe that's the second suggestion you made. That seems more likely because we can't do the first option...

      PS the other thing you could do is contact RUclips support with this issue so that the brand account doesn't keep verifying your age.
      They've been really excellent fixing problems that I have had with the brand account
