- Thanks for tuning in to watch my urban sketching, ink and watercolour tutorial! Don't forget to check out my channel where I have hundreds of different urban sketch tutorials, as well as other watercolour and ink sketching guides for everyone from beginners to more advanced!
If you'd like to support my channel you can buy me a 'Coffee' on KoFi - ko-fi.com/tobyurbansketch
When I reach my goal I'll upgrade my sketching tutorials with a new camera and use my old camera to give an extra view point in my videos! Perhaps my face, perhaps my watercolour palette, or some close ups of my process!
This is an urban sketch using ink and watercolours of a busy street scene, including human figures or people going about their business!
In this ten minute challenge I show you how I break down a complex scene, capturing enough detail to make it interesting, as well as tips and tricks showing how to add people or human figures into our scene. Drawing people, in particular, an feel daunting - but breaking them down into simple shapes and just considering a couple of simple rules of perspective can make them easy, or at least easier!
We will use both fine liner ink, very appropriately for the now semi-famous inktober! As well as a few quick watercolours to bring it to life.
My aim with these videos is to show people what I do, and try and explain why I do it. Number one, I aim to enjoy my art, playing with different pens, watercolours, pencils or whatever else I feel like - and hope to inspire people to do the same.

Hi Toby! Thanks for sharing!
no problem! Thanks for watching of course :)
I really enjoy your video's. You give may helpful tips. Wish we could see that you're drawing though.
Hi Rhonda, glad you're enjoying! Most of my newer vids include a link to a reference and a picture of the reference on camera. Sorry this one doesn't!
Great video and tutorial…. Clear and precise….👍
As a person starting to sketch….how do I avoid keeping the lines perfect….I am finding this a challenge as the lines I end up sketching are too straight and not random
Thanks!!
My favourite ways of practicing wonky lines are doing sketches to a time limit (like this one), purposefully making mistakes or making key lines a bit wobbly, or doing continuous line drawings (never taking your pen off a page). Hope that helps!
@@TobySketchLoose thanks…shall give it a go
Lovely demo. Would you use this moleskin for a travel journal?
I regularly do! Though I also like to experiment and try different sketchbooks to see what happens
Awesome tutorial sir, can you list the materials used to make this great sketch ?
I'm not sure exactly, but you can check out my current materials on urbansketch.co.uk/supplies
I would enjoy your presentation a lot more if you could show the picture as you sketch.
Ahh cool, thanks for the feedback - I'll experiment and see what I can do for the next one 👍👍👍
@@TobySketchLoose thanks
What kind of paper were you using here? Paint seemed to stay on the surface, vs. being absorbed
Hi Irene - this is in a moleskin watercolour sketchbook. It's 200gsm pair, lightly textured. Hope that helps!
