Experimenting in miniature painting is something I do every day. Just trying things to see what happens, there's hits and misses but what im really getting out of it is a database of knowledge that I can use to make the best choices in the future when I'm painting or trying to answer warhammer 40k painting questions

"Can't hurt a miniature with paint" well I sure have seen people try
Technically you can hurt a miniature with paint but it's only on the space Marines and the actual soldier characters and they often don't dilute their paint and it gets way too thick and it hides a lot of the detail otherwise this guy does everything perfect it looks good it's just badass looking
I bought a lot of old stuff on eBay thats was badly hurt
Paint can easily crack plastic, if you use the wrong paint on the wrong plastic
I have seen miniature videos of people squirting paint on minis like it’s a money shot 😂
Easy Off Oven Cleaner. Just spray it, put it in Tupperware overnight and use a soft dollar store toothbrush to easily remove all the paint and primer.
Easy squeezy.

Models are expensive but a big tub of Biostrip will last ages if you really don't like the result of an experiment. I've been lucky though, I've not had to use mine yet.

I think so. There was still some bleed through and a little tearing. I'm going to try a few more things to see what gets the cleanest results
Pull the tape earlier before the edges get hard?
When you paint on walls and you go to do striping for like wallpaper effects and stuff, they suggest that you paint over with the base coat paint before you actually do your striping because it helps stop bleed. So maybe if we paint the synthwave gradient and then do the pin striping, paint the synthwave gradient again, and then do the black overcoat, Maybe that will help.

ehhh, inconclusive. needs more testing to see what gets the cleanest resaults. it helped but not that much

Best way to eliminate bleed is to embrace the bleed. Doesnt work with a gradient like this (well, it does, but its more complicated), but before you do the second color, apply a bit of the first color over and around the masked areas. The bleed won't be visible because it's the same color, and it'll form a seal that prevents the next color from bleeding under the tape.

I think people forget they can just cover what they've done with a primer and tray again quite a few times before it gets too think, and then you could srtip the paint and go again and again you can paint one mini a multitude of times
Where do you get pinstripe tape like this? You've given me some ideas for my orks.
I think you should check out the technic used by the anime figure painting community. These guys do everything with airbrush and are the master of masking.
I think what you should have used here is liquid masking.

When I was new. I found an old dreadnought that was just a lump of paint. 0 detail. It was a gift, so I left it in a cup with nail varnish and some water, the next day, the paint just fell off, revealing a stunning mini.

Do you primarily use the warpaint fanatic range? Going to try my hand at some cyberpunk/synth wave models in your style!
I'd recommend getting some inks they have amazing vibrancy and airbrushability don't try base coating with them though it's hell id recommend liquitex or daller and rouny and yes he does use mostly fanatics now id highly recommend them

Been a painter in automotives aquatic vehicles my whole life and that was the only time I had trouble.. then I remembered ultrasonic cleaners😅
For what it’s worth, 76 was terrible at first but it’s improved a LOT. It’s a decent game now, though definitely not one of the best. A big thing that got it the deserved criticism at first was a lack of much story and total lack of NPCs which was a very weird choice but they’ve added both.
I'll be doing a bunch of glow effects on models. Do you have a synth wave flame or glow technique?
im practicing a few fire effects at the moment and theres an Avatar of Khaine video that im about to start filming that will cover, internal glow and flames

If you didn't like it would you strip the paint or just layer over? Returning to the hobby and lost some texture to dry brushing dry instead of a small volume of water, great model but I kinda of want to start from scratch is this common practice, so you ever start over?
Yes you can its called 1 thick coat
It Does look Cool..... Not sure about 'Warhammer' stuff, but as a model-builder...I would have masked those "Vents" better.....OR..... Cover the vents completely showing that Yellow/Orange/Red colors..... OR .... keep them un-covered to keep that blue color.
And three: It's useful to have other people buy your models for you.

Honestly, I don't think you can tell new hobbiest often enough that you can't hurt a miniature with paint.
Maybe the very best advice you can give a new painter
If you don't like the end result or change your mind later you can strip the model and start over so be BOLD take risk really practice knowing as you improve you can always pull the older models back out and redo them

Who ever said you could hurt a miniature with paint? Never heard that one. You can waste a lot of time and money though but really there is only one way to learn, time and money.

Use better masking tape, tamiya for example. Your tape doesnt even stick to the model in some areas, no amount of matt varnish can fix that.

can i ask where you found such tape? wondering if i need a hobby shop or a stationery shop!
Actually, it was from an automotive store. Pin stripe tape this one is 3mm. Ypu can also cut down painters tape

It's also worth bearing in mind that most of the hurt you do is reversible, and, failing that, removable.
I tried out a new colour pallete for my marine army on a stray marine, then after that stripped him and painted him as a trans flag, no harm done, easily removed with a quick soak in some alcohol
The amount of times Daniel got trolled and got let out of jail surpasses Chris Chan except at least he never did doing anything to his mother or grandmother...

lead paint is more likely to hurt us and if youre getting anything out of any xenos you probably dont have time to paint 😅

the problem isn't the paint or lacquer it's how you apply the tape tbh, you need to be much more meticulous with it

How come you did this with the turret off? Or do you place the turret later and line up or do you do something different on the turret? :)
The turret I was planning on doing something else with plus I have tow different ones depending in if I need to run a fire Prism or wave serpent

I’ve seen plenty of models ruined by paint Wtf are you talking about? Stripping usually fka the resin/plastic too. That model probably cost like £60 no way you can’t ruin it with paint that’s just objectively wrong
Go buy cheap models online or whatever that look like what you want to paint kind of then just reuse it to practice painting on if you want a cheap way to get better or see how something looks before doing it.

Wrong you can hurt a model with paint, too much paint and you gunk up the details… even if you remove the paint sometimes the paint can’t be removed from the details
