  • For the September 2022 meeting, we take a trip across New Jersey with Tom Nemeth from Oak Island engine terminal, through the suburbs of Cranford, South Plainfield, and Bound Brook, to the western border in Phillipsburg. Most of the shots are from the early to mid-1960s (FAs, PAs, RS3s, etc.) continuing into the 1970s.

A well done presentation ! Tom I met you very briefly in the mid-80’s here in Dubois,Pa at the ex-BR&P tower in Falls Creek just north of town . If I remember correctly you and a friend were chasing a Chessie northbound- possibly one of the short lived container stack trains that operated through here from 1984 to 1986 between the west coast and Little Ferry,New Jersey. I have always loved your photos!

Great video!!! Ive been searching for months for old railfanning videos from South Plainfield. That's one of my favorite spots. That concrete phone booth in the picture around 16:35 in the video is still there but pushed into the brush next to that 3rd line that is gone now. I actually took some video of the phone booth and included it in a recent video I posted. I was wondering how old that was. Thanks again for all the great information. A lot of my videos are shot from the exact locations are your videos. Have a great weekend. And just subscribed!!

Hi guys, I always enjoy your presentations. I grew up in maplewood and my house backed up to the M&E. Spent my teen years railfanning around the area. I left the area in 1970, so I never got around some of the great locations I have seen on the presentations.
