I'm glad I've more or less completed my collection a couple of years ago. Now I see the rrp of Rado, Oris, Hamilton, Longines etc have risen on average 30%-40%. Expensive time to be getting into collecting watches
I love these videos Oleg! Awesome release from Hamilton, and another great one from Longines too. I do love the look of the King Seiko, but $3.5k is wayyyy too much
Great vid and takes as usual but I will add a few points of context to apply to the market positioning of the Seiko 6L35 movement: 1) Seiko doesn’t have a thinner Automatic movement and this family of movement has already appeared in both high-dollar Seiko and Credor watch lines, this recent KS release is actually thinner than the Vintage manual wind 44KS it’s based on 2) Seiko only apply tighter mechanical accuracy windows for their Grand Seiko line and that is part of why folks have a skewed perception. It’s easy for people to accept the difference between an Omega vs. Longines vs. Hamilton or Tissot because they have different brand names and histories, although they’re all owned by The SWATCH Group, and purposefully marketed at different, non-competing segments/tiers a. Also because of their abundance via retail chains, means like you said you can normally get well below MSRP, not really the same for Seiko 3) In-House vs. Extended Power Reserve vs. Beat-rate vs. COSC tradeoffs: a. SWATCH Group watches with extended power reserves all have lowered beat-rates i. If a SWATCH Group watch does decide to just use the base ETA 2892 w/o an extended Power Reserve to retain the Higher beat-rate, it’s no where near considered the same level of in-house as Seiko b. Sellita and LJP do have similarly slim movements w/4Hz BUT all are featured as drop-in movements and no in-house built watches i. Only Swiss brands can get COSC and most are happy to just get Top Grade and for example a Top Grade 2892 still can have a variance of +/-15spd, which mainstream Swiss brands like Breitling have been charging multiples of thousands for even w/o COSC regulation
Also, for SWATCH Group watches, if you move down into the Powermatic 80 movements that are COSC, you get an even lower beat-rate than the L888, and have a movement that is much thicker and cannot be regulated manually and must be sent back to SWATCH
Good to see hear from you and well said. I may have been wrong/too harsh on the Seiko and their choice of a movement. Your point about Swatch group having a bunch of different brands vs Seiko’s different brands is actually something that I never thought about.
The thing with Seiko is that these limited runs do end up selling out so enthusiasts only have themselves to blame. The movements do perform better than the specs would suggest, just like a miyota 9000 series movements do, but if you're in the longines/Tudor price range the movement should be regulated.
As a summary of watch releases this video is excellent. I didn’t know about the Mido. On the other hand I recommend going elsewhere to understand the value of a watch. Seikos’s 6l35 enables an automatic watch with 10,7 mm case thickness.
You are great . Your revews of King Seiko and Mido are the greatest. What is your opinion of Titoni Cosc certified watches, which are still under the radar especially in the US market ? Many thanks Nizar
Very nice video. Would it be possible to add the specs on the screen while you’re talking or at least just mentioning them quickly. Also adding in the width? Appreciate you taking the time.
Just picked up the Oris Aquis in 41.5mm and it fits perfectly on my 7 inch wrist. I agree with the 43.5mm being just a little to big. On a side not I much prefer your reviews when you have the actual watch being talked about on hand or should I say wrist. Lol 😅
I guess I don't really understand your dislike of the 6L movement. Its actually a Credor movement. Seiko uses it in its dress watches because of its thinness. The 8L has the same exact accuracy rating and is too thick for this case. You have to look at more than just the black and white when ot comes to which movement works best in which watch
@@d2rufffalco459 To each their own. If everybody bought watches because of specs, we'd all have the same thing and it would be a very boring community. Watches are a lot more than a movement to me. I have the SJE093, which was also $3500 and has the 6L. Keeps great time and I'm very happy with it
I have the Mido ocean star diver chronometers Si for 2 years now and it’s -2 +1 a day it’s a trooper saw it on sale and gave it a try. Mido is truly under the radar.
The new Hamiltons look great, but i don't know why they left of the date window. I love my 38mm Khaki Field Auto, great everyday gada watch with a date.
pls guide bro hamilton khaki feild or swc hyper g? and second why u dont perfer black pvd watches i mean i do have hamilton braclet one but sometimes i think to change it with black titanium should i go for it or not pls do guide thanks
Thank you for making these videos. They are my main source of information about new releases. 😄 I don't think I agree with you on the importance of movement specs though. Luxury watches like these are jewelry - people pay mainly for the name. Like with iPhones.
I would agree that the king seiko is over priced. They are using the 6l movement in higher end seikos now. The new 62mas sje093 has this movement also. The problem is seikos pricing and value for what they charge. The 6l movement came from seiko credor. It is a high quality movement. I have one in a sje073. Unusual seiko dress watch. Should have a gs logo on it. Runs at plus 2 seconds a day. I think seiko is just trying to make as much money as they can. I have 3 divers with 8l35 movements. Not regulated. Run well though. Run plus 5 to minus 2 a day. How much more cost to regulate a gs movement built in the same factory as the gs watches? Also have a high beat diver. Expensive watch for me. Did seiko regulate it? Haha!! Runs plus 7/8 seconds a day
In 1964 my father bought me my first watch. An Oris. For 30 Israeli Liras ( about $12) from a proper shop in Tel Aviv. $3400 for a virtue signalling environmental thingy… watches are counter environment… how does it exactly works? I love the Hamilton and wait a while to add it to the few I already have. The Navitimer is very nice but way over price. Love the Seiko if it was cheaper…I know love don’t go with cheap. Mido is a nice watch, but only popular in Latin America. Who knows why?
i disagree about the movement in this king seiko le. it's a 6L with 28800 as you mentioned, high beat. it is better than the 6R used in the regular king seiko. collector's would have like to see a 6l in the other models, specifically when you consider the history of king seiko
Sorry to say I’m not over keen on any of them. Hey ho can’t like em all. I too had an Aquis but sold mine because with the amount of polish on the links it was a little confused, a sort of dress/sports watch hence it seldom got wrist time. I would consider the 41mm on rubber pre-owned though.
Your comments are refreshingly sensible. Seiko dials seems to range from pieces of art to really tacky. At least in the video this one is not one of the better ones in my opinion.
If I had 3000 to spend it wouldn't be a longines it would have to be a tudor.the seiko prices are getting ridiculous apart from grand seiko Which is reasonably priced for what you get.under a thousand for a dive watch id buy the seiko king turtle only 500 or less with saphire, ceramic bezel ,in-house movement and hardly changed since 1st y3ar of production in 76.
Anybody who thinks a wristwatch is too heavy needs to spend more time at the gym. I have worn a watch since I was in the eighth grade. I have watches of all sizes from 50 mm down to a tiny little Cartier watch. I don't even notice I have them on my wrist. In fact as I get older and my eyesight is not as good as it used to be I appreciate those 50 mm watches as a make it easier to see the time.
I don't think Seiko have approached the King Seiko brand in the right way. The market has already been confused when you can buy King Samurai (I have the Shu-Iro and it's fantastic) King Sumo etc etc. and yet these aren't King Seiko's. The King Seiko movements are also a disappointment for the price.
The problem with your thoughts on the seiko watches is that you’re assuming they’re aiming to please the consumer. They’re not. They’re aiming to maximize profits and minimize costs, and they know they can still do that while making sub par watches because they will sell out nonetheless. Until the market, especially rabid seiko fans, learn to stop buying crap watches, they’ll never stop. The market always decides, and it long ago decided that sub par watches are totally fine
Unless going Grand Seiko or paying $4K+ for a higher end Seiko with 8 series movement, the problem with Seiko is always the unregulated movement. Seikos are lovely to look at and keep awful time. Exception are quartz Seikos. I own a Tuna 300m with superb quartz movement that keeps perfect time which is a $1300 watch. Seiko's profit motive with their crappy 6 series movements is on full display. A lottery if you get anything near an accurate watch. I have owned too many and no more.
A think the problem of seiko watchs is accuracy. A have an alpinist with 6r35a with runs - 35 a day. Expecting accuracy in seiko watchs is an exercise of frustacion. Never more seiko in my life!
I recently find that everybody is noticing Seiko is being stupid but still defending them, well, most people at least. If they wen't and at least gave the specs for the money (hardlex above 300 is an insult) as well as get their QC in order I wouldn'd have an issue with owning nothing but Seiko. Now though the people on YT just seem to defend Seiko for nostalgia.
I assume the new Hamilton khaki titanium lacks a screw down crown? Fail. But Longines is hitting it out of the park. The new Grand Seiko is way overpriced!
Once the prices come down I think a titanium Khaki on a titanium bracelet is exactly what I would recommend for anyone who want’s to buy their first “nice” watch.
Seiko have been doing what they like for a while and unfortunately rarely, if at all, listen to what the consumer wants. Like Apple, they can afford to trade off fan/brand loyalty and the Seikopaths will keep them in 'gold back scratchers' for a long time to come. I count myself as a fan but would never buy any of their releases from recent times at retail.
In what way is Hamilton 'EPIC' by making a watch that looks like a hundred other ugly watches ? The King Seiko movement is brilliant with a stunning dial. It puts all the watches from Longines or Oris or Breitling that looks like clones of each other that bores me, in the shade and shames them.
agreed on seiko , THE 6R movement is a 500 - 800 watch movement anything outside of that is a straight up rip off and honestly 7-8 is kinda steep in my opnion for such a cheap to assemble in 2023 movement it also doesent have the best accuracy amongst its peers especially when sold above a thousand its depressing , the japanese have been doing alot of questionable business practices as of late beyond watches , alot of the cars have questionable build quality all of the sudden and the prices are way to high for what they are providing .

No offense, but paying 1'2k€ for an unregulated 6r35 is unnaceptable
