Hello sir, so I've been watching your videos and preparing myself and my family to adopt a young grey.. If I may know, do you have any notable behavior change experiences when Smokey hits puberty? thank you!
Just wanted to share about my African Grey. One night there was a big thunder and lightning storm. The storm woke up my bird, scaring him. He flew out of his room, landing in the hallway. I got up, turned on lights, went calm and reassure him saying you're OK, you'll be OK. We both went back to bed. About a week later, I was vacuuming in his room and stubbed my toe on the vac. I said owww! My bird, who was watching this, dramatically threw himself forward, saying, ahhhh sh*t! Then he straightened up, looked at me and said, you're OK, you'll be OK. He had learned that a week earlier that those are calming words for when you're scared or upset. My bird learns when I'm not trying to teach him and he learns how to use it in the right context. Fabulously smart!
I love your show! Been watching since you started. Nice to see Smokey again! I also have a African grey for about 15 years know. She just started to pluck her feathers around her neck. Do you have any advice for me to stop her plucking? Would be deeply appreciated! Thank you!
Vet check should be first on the agenda, to rule out an medical issues that may be causing it. Check the environment and try to recall if anything changed, from new/replaced appliances, to humidity and temperature. If you can't think of anything, really the best step is to ramp up enrichment. More toys, more foraging, more exercise, more UV, etc etc. Double down on diet, make sure it's complete with plenty of veggies. My eclectus began plucking, and it took over a year to finally stop her. Stick with it and don't get discouraged!
Hi, my friend has an African gray and he fluffs up anytime someone goes near him and he bites, and he prefers men. He’s also a little bit too fat to fly. I really want him to like me and I think I might’ve made a little bit of progress because I put him on the ground and he followed me around the kitchen. Or maybe he was hunting me?😂 I don’t know. What’s your advice
Hi guys, this is an updated version of the one I just posted a few hours ago. That one had audio issues so this should be much better!
