Just my 2 cents... Reading these comments,, I see everyone wants the pickup version of either the 4500 or 5500. Thats cool. More options the better, I get that. I guess I'm one of the few that cant stand pickup beds. I work out of a truck and cringe thinking about having to use a bed again. Flatbeds are soo much easier to load and dont get beat up as bad in the process. Also, I never saw a valid reason for a 4500. If you need the payload, then get the 5500. It's always safer to have a bit extra than what you think you might need, especially at comparable prices.
with dealer discounts and tradesman package a sub $50k price out the door is possible on the truck you describe. My tradesman package has more comfort and features than most top end trucks 10 years ago.
I drove one and it was nice but being a diesel owner for decades now I went with the 3500 cab and chassis 3500. I noticed a difference on hills and that would be a crusher for the Hemi for me. If you don't tow a lot the Hemi will do the job but the Cummins loafs up the grades like stuff isn't even weighing you down. It's a tough call with all costs considered though. But diesels out do gassers by a lot and resale is great on them.
Iona 5500 2016 the problem is they don't make the oil pans they need to make them out of stainless steel they will not warranty oil pans for any rust leak
They lost me as a customer by doing away with the manual transmission. I understand the take rate, economics, etc... But you'll never see me defending taking choices away from the consumer. Who wants a dime-a-dozen, cookie cutter truck? There's almost nothing left that makes them unique.
I would order a new 19 3500 dually today if I could get a manual again. I have a 14 3500 dually with the manual transmission now and love it running over 500 hp and over 1000 tq with nothing more then a clutch upgrade.
The F450 pickup has the fully boxed frame, not the open C at the rear like the chassis cab. It also uses the higher engine output from the other diesel pickups.
@alexstelling the lower output engine is okay with me. They detuned the engine for longevity and even with the open frame rails it can pull the same. I like the wide axle front the most and if that was an option on the 3500 it would be my choice.
C.T. Productions that’s only because they one-up each other every year and Ford hasn’t announced their new model towing figures yet. You can bet they will be higher than the Ram. Really not sure what your point was, when this is fairly obvious.
If all you want is a quad cab 4500/5500 pickup it's a pretty simple process: 1. Order the 60 inch CA 2. Have the same dealer's service department request a 3500 dually 8 foot bed 3. Dealer can put the two together and even paint match it nicely Personally I'd throw on a supercharger with that 6.4 Hemi and do a cat back Magnaflow quad exhaust with dual mufflers. It might not tow the full 35,000 pounds, but I guarantee you won't want to get out of the driver's seat either. Add a B&I full trim kit and some genuine sheepskin covers and that cockpit will be an absolute sanctuary.
I also would like to see this in a crew cab pickup truck mainly like you say for the wide track front end and I don't need the extra weight capability all the time maybe a couple times a year. But I do like a flatbed so I don't bust anymore ribs when my foot slips and I land on the bed side
For a second I thought the 5500 was the hemi that you show at first, whit that stupid knob shifter, for some reason I just can't go over it, even a Prius have real shifter, But nice video like always!!
I’d love to see a pickup bed on those AND a towing review on that 6.4 Hemi in your introduction. Many people towing under 20k lbs may opt for a drw gas over a diesel.
One thing I’m curious about is cab configuration. Why doesn’t Ram offer anything resembling an extended or super cab. I have an F-550 service truck regular cab and when I upgrade I’d like the extra cab space an extended cab offers but a crew cab in most instances is too long of a wheel base. Ford still offers an extended cab and its a good combo of cab space for sensitive tools to keep protected but not so long it can’t be maneuvered on narrow mountain roads. I like the Ram truck and power train but the lack of cab options pushes me toward the super duty. And in my profession, I’ve met a lot of people who share my opinion. Just a thought.
I was in the same boat. I'm a contractor. Have had two crew cab Rams and now I really like the extra space and such. Get one because you will get used to it and not think twice.
Ram needs to make the 5500 or even the 4500 in a pickup truck. Laramie, Cummings Diesel, DRW, MegaCab or Crew Cab with the 6'4" box and at least offer the Bi-Function LED Projector Headlamps as an option in all trim levels. I'll buy it.
A gasser hemi In a 3500 dually? That’s the dumbest setup I’ve ever seen. Complete waste. That option shouldn’t even be allowed in a 3500 dually. Get the Cummins in it

I enjoy it when you guys talk with Chief engineers about these new trucks. You can learn lots from them. Thanks for video JD. That 5500 is awesome.
You wouldn't be happy trying to tow anything heavy over the Ike Gauntlet with that 6.4L gas engine, just ask Mr Truck.
I would love that in a mega cab pick up version
I would like to know why the Ram 5500 Longhauler didn't go into production.
Never heard of that, but DAMN that's a long truck lol
Because it's kinda weird.
A sub 50k version of the base 5500 with a crew cab, truck bed, 4wd and a cummins would be a great buy for personal use 5th wheel towing.😍

with the mega cab 8 ft bed. with the black out package. GIMMIE!!!!!
Definitely would be nice if they did offer at least the 4500 in a pickup version.
Get a flatbed boi
you can buy a bed if u really want it
Glad to see that Dodge guy back. Would love to ask him a lot of things... off the record, of course.
You or the other guy didn't talk about the transmission .
It needs a big trucks transmission both automatic and manual
That 5500 is a beast. Totally agree that Ram should make a pickup bed version of this truck! The ultimate heavy toy hauler! Great video!👍
Man up and buy a C&C
These are amazing.
My dad bought a 2k19 ram 5500 Laramie for a farm truck, and I can not wait for it to arrive. They said it will be here in one week.
I like the flat bed better than a truck bed, you can't bend it, it's hard as a rock, last forever
it doesn't get any better than this.!
I know, because I drive one EVERY day !
I'm waiting on a 4500/5500 pick up from ram. Plzzzzzzzz
Just make one. I’ve seen it done here in Montana multiple times, and we are a sparsely populated state.
When it comes to towing ram beats out any other brand no matter what!
That old C Series Dodge in the background I have a sweet tooth for those....
Would LOVE to hear more about that Hemi dually!!!!!!
I was waiting for him to say something on it but nothing. Maybe next video hopefully

If you are still with the Ram people can you ask what SPECIFICALLY has been upgraded with the 68RFE transmission??
Pretty sure I heard in another interview that it was the strength of the materials and the timings
The gear shifting got improved.
New ECU for the transmission, and I believe some materials as well. They claimed improved shift quality and speed.
THIS!
It’s too bad there aren’t more class c RV built on truck chassis. The few that exist seem sweet but lack the floor plans I like.
A great large truck camper platform.
this truck will be able to play in the league of ford for sure

It makes me wonder if you can custom order one with a bed if one chooses to do that. Nice truck by the way. Big fan of Ram Trucks.
Is there sunroof option in the 5500
Why did Ram not include the air suspension option in the cab chassis models. Same with Ford, why is there no air suspension options?
Can someone explain to me why/how the ram 5500 is rated for so much more towing capacity than F550????
of enough people ask for a 4500 or 5500 ram pick up they will build it. every one should email ram about it

With two different types of tires, how do you rotate and how often do you rotate the tires?
Would like your opinion on the Laramie with the large nav screen. I am a Ford guy but I can't deny the attraction to the Laramie interior.
Wish ram had a higher gvwr like the ford F600.

When they hit the market could you do a side by side comparison of 3500 and 5500! It’s time for a new truck soon👍.
You nailed it on the head. Why is this not done in a pick up truck with high end interior?
Don’t forget to cover (pun intended) the upholstery options, for us ladies 😊
