Ford sells the most vehicles by brand in the us. Ford also doubles the sales of trucks compared to Ram and nearly doubles GM. So take your stats with a grain of salt. Divide out the recalls per vehicle and Ford is actually lower than the other brands especially in the truck segment. Ford has more but less per vehicle. Ford and Mercedes and BMW have spiked in the last 3 years because they're not playing the foot drag like all the other manufacturers with the Takata situation. 70 percent of the recalls from these three are airbags (they're the only 3 being progressive).
I currently own a 2018 Duramax work truck. I wish that the manufacturers would stop adding useless crap to their work trucks. If you need all those “driver assists” and sensors to pull a trailer safely then you probably shouldn’t do it. The powertrains are good but I don’t need a tv in my dashboard or massaging seats and cameras all around. As a working man who pulls a 30 foot gooseneck every day, what I need is torque, good outward visibility ( of which none of the current trucks have ) and less useless crap that costs a fortune to fix after a few years. What I certainly don’t need is the 1000$ a month payment they require you to make to own one of these trucks. I have owned many trucks over the years and I have only kept one of them which is the best truck I ever had. What is it? A 1977 gmc crew cab. It never lets me down, has great outward visibility and zero useless crap and is very cheap to maintain. My dream truck would be any of the current drivetrains in an old upright square body.
Daniel J I’m pretty tired of all the computer trucks myself.... I’d like to go full analog ....12v , 6 speed in a old 1 ton chassis from the late70’s - early 80’s
Best way to gain visibility when towing a trailer is with cameras. Or I guess you could extend the side mirrors another foot or two out the sides of the cab. I consider Tow Haul mode and grade control and the exhaust brake integration on my 2011 Duramax to be fantastic "driver assists" that help maintain control on steep down grades when towing. With the old trucks a lot more skill was needed than exists with the vast majority of drivers on the road today. But if you want a basic truck all you need to do is buy the regular cab work trucks in SRW or DRW configuration. No one is forcing you to buy the platinum trim versions so nothing really to whine about.
Benjamin Sampson I did buy a regular cab srw 2500hd truck. No carpet, no leather, no heated seats. The most bare-bones truck I could find. It cost me $57000! I hate the newer LED headlights that blind on-coming traffic without offering more visibility, they don’t “project” as well as the regular headlights I had on my 2015 gmc. The exhaust brake never does what I want it to do so I never use it. I always use the tow/haul mode which holds the gear longer before shifting and downshifts downhill under braking as I would do if I could have gotten a manual trans which nobody offers anymore. I just hate to pay for crap that I don’t want or need. I admit that abs, stability control ect has made these trucks safer but I’m sorry, no truck is worth 85000$
I recently got a deal on a mega cab when purchasing my new truck. I have to say I love it. While passenger wise i dont really have the demand most of the time. But For cargo and storage Its ideal for me. I needed the space while still having the ability to haul a gooseneck, so its been a complete win. For the first time in years I can store all the tools and test equipment I need, completely out of site. Fold the seats flat as needed and put environment sensitive equipment in that area and still have tons of room. So far passenger wise everyone has been super happy with the back seats. But that was really just a bonus.
At least the Chevy is getting a complete redesign. The 2019 Ram is just a face lift. This is now the oldest truck in the class. People need to get over and stop being so gaga.
@@rxonmymind8362 My thoughts exactly. Great 3/4 ton trucks have been built for past 15+ years. There's not the bells and whistles or quite the power, but nice well maintained trucks are out there that will fit the bill for 90% of buyers out there.

If all the people complaining about no manual transmission trucks being made actually bought them in previous and didn't just complain about it the big three would all be making them.
I've been doing that, last truck I recently bought has a G56 in it. Just too many people too lazy or preoccupied to shift. But I'm old fashioned I suppose, I also enjoy the driving experience; I don't see cars and trucks as solely a means to get from point A to point B with the least amount of interaction as possible.
I gross at 105,500. I've had plenty of 75,000 lb loads and I sure would not pull them with a Dodge. They haven't put 18 wheeler numbers in a pickup yet. Its impressive, but still a pick up.
Wow! That Cummins engine is something. I drove highway trucks and my own truck had an 855 c.i. Cummins rated at 400 h.p. and 1250 lb/ft of torque, the available Cummins engine in the pickup is very impressive. Well done RAM.👍👍
I read the article when it came out this morning. I read it and it came very easily with knowledge that the G-56 is no longer available in the new fifth GEN pick up trucks. Rest in peace G-56 six speed manual transmission day in age.

The biggest downfall is that “new” injector pump. Screw the cp4. You can make those same numbers more reliably with a cp3 Edit: however, I am digging the new look. The big grille gives it that same look many semis are giving. The headlights even take a nod at many other semi manufacturers. The longhorn interior is second to none, and I would love to own one.
Yes, the cp4 can handle more volume, but not more high pressure, so looks like new Cummins owners will have to add a lift pump to put less strain on the cp4 fuel pump or swap to a cp3

Crying for what? GM has the new 10sp Allison which no competitors can match. Allison makes the best trans. GM has also always out performed the other two while pulling a trailer. Paper numbers mean nothing when it doesn't apply the power correctly.

I've worked for FCA, formerly DaimlerChrysler since 2002. I love the ram products. great to work on, reliable without major issues and good looking. Truth be told.. they are unaffordable along with every other brand out there. For a 32 yr old man like me married with three kids, that works for the company. A 2500 is simply unattainable. To simply get a crew cab with anything other than flat black bumpers and diesel is over$ 50k. That's just absurd. I think it's time to take a new approach instead of adding more tech to drive up cost that will be unavailable to find replacment parts for in ten years.
I think it’s a nice update. Good to see the HD gas get the ZF 8 speed I am guessing it’s an 8HP90/95 or maybe something else even. It’s a bummer it didn’t get the new cab. Not sure what the exact reason was but I would have rather had the new crew cab back seat then have to get a mega cab. Ram has had a poor rollover rating I would love to see that talked about and if any changes to this old cab were implemented. I guess maybe they just didn’t want to pour too much money in for whatever reason. The HD crew cab feels crowded compared to the new 1500 crew cab. Overall a lot of good changes but for a platform that has been milked for so long I wanted a better update. 1000 ftlb of torque is awesome wonder how it will stack up against GM 10 speed Duramax. I don’t feel much love in the 2500 Diesel area with Ram. You get 370/850 and it just doesn’t go like a 6.7L Ford or Duramax. It’s fine and it’ll certainly get the job done but when one scratches head over the finer details of where 60-75K is going it matters.
If the ram 2500 gas version uses the 6.4L hemi...and it gets an 8spd trans...it will most likely be the 8hp70 since that's the trans they use with that engine in other vehicles with the 6.4L. The 8hp90/95 is used with the hellcat/demon...
@@_E_B_ I get where you are coming from but I disagree. I disagree because the the 2500 is a HD application that would call for something more robust than the 8HP70. I would be extremely surprised if the 8HP70/75 showed up in the 2500. @@JsGarage Ur talking about the GAS engine powered 2500. The transmission only needs to be stout enough to handle the torque of the engine. The frame and chassis will handle the rest of the weight the truck is pulling. FD gear ration will also help with that.
Here’s all you need to know... The Duramax is the only one NOT using a junk ass CP4 injection pump for 2019. Shame on Cummins for opting to use a CP4, major hit in reliability. They had 15 years of good service from the CP3 and now it’s gone, just because they wanted a few thousand more PSI for rail pressure. Should’ve switched to the HP4 like GM did. Much more reliable pump and it meets the higher rail pressure capability that all the OEs are seeking currently. Can’t even consider the Cummins to be the most reliable engine anymore, those CP4s have caused nothing but trouble for GM, Ford, and I believe VW as well.
Clinton no, it’s not. It’s a complete gamble. People running bad fuel, not changing filters, and not draining the water separator just exaggerates the problem. I’ve seen an LML truck that had a FASS on it since new lose the CP4 at 5,000 miles. Even if the failure rate is low, that kind of stuff really never happened with CP3s. Period. Even when a CP3 fails it doesn’t ruin the rest of the fuel system like CP4s do. Roller lifters were a terrible idea and it shows, the solid lifters in the CP3 were never an issue.
Marcus Mar the fact that the truck had a FASS on it could be the culprit for the failure. All it takes is starving it one time to cause damage. If you change the filters and don’t prime the system correctly, you’re damaging the pump. The CP4 gets a bad name because most people are stupid.
Clinton no, the CP4 gets a bad name because it’s a flawed design. Wether it has a factory lift pump feeding it in a Ford application or without one in a GM application. Fact of the matter is that with the same maintenance practices and good quality of fuel, CP3s will last longer. And once again- they will not ruin the rest of the fuel system when they fail.
Marcus Mar the CP4 only ruins the fuel system if the operator keeps driving with issues. The pump doesn’t shit out and immediately ruin the system. No surprise though. I mean, if you caused damage to your fuel pump, you can’t be expected to pay enough attention to drivability issues either. Lol. It will tell you if there’s a problem. Drastic differences between command pressure and actual pressure is the trick. You could argue that one shouldn’t have to pay attention to such things. I’d say, those people don’t need diesel pickups. Ever seen the inside of a big rig? Hundreds of data readings. There a reason. You HAVE to pay attentions. You HAVE to follow procedure. You HAVE to get good quality fuel. If the Bosch pump was awful, Cummins wouldn’t put one on the side of their engine. GM was stupid for not including a lift pump. As for ford, I’ve literally never heard of one crapping out that wasn’t due to operator error. They don’t just grenade.
Why all the hate? It’s a 2019 model year. A lot of you are comparing it to the new 2020 models. Let me guess. Everyone will complain when the total redesign comes out and the grill and interior is the same as this 2019 model. 🤦♂️

Because it's easier to shift quickly without looking, keeps your right hand close to the wheel during shift changes, it's what us ham fisted guys are accustomed to. There are so many men who love them, we have big hands, and like to keep our eyes on the road and the ladies. BMW I drive and others require too much thought.
Duncan D McGrath amen to that, brother.
Couldn't agree more
Ram has done marvelous job in designing and engineering the 2019 models, not only on the 1500 model, but the HD models as well.

I expect 8HP95 1st and the 90 would be my second guess. Those hellcat/demon applications are high horsepower light duty applications. I would be extremely surprised if the 8HP70/75 showed up in the 2500. Really the 8HP70 is rather light duty compared to Ford and GM 8 and 10 speeds but gets the job done nicely in the 1500 Ram and non supercharged car applications.

Ur talking about the GAS engine powered 2500. The transmission only needs to be stout enough to handle the torque of the engine. The frame and chassis will handle the rest of the weight the truck is pulling. FD gear ration will also help with that.

Wow, I’m glad, finally feel like I bought a great product! Hope it doesn’t disappoint. So far, I’m in Love.
Marcus Mar the CP4 is reliable...so long as the operator isn’t a complete idiot.

@@TimKaeb Asin transmission is not crap, towing with a manual is not better as proven with large scale semi-trucks. The only thing standard has going is lack of complexity and easier to self-service by novice.
Wow, Great Presentation guys, always well prepared and knowledgeable about your subject. It's a pleasure watching your videos.
Thank you !
I don't know if there was a single thing I did not like in this video. Maybe the rotary shifter in the Power Wagon instead of the column shifters in the others? These trucks are incredible, and the guy by the frame display really knew his stuff.
Who else quit watching at 5:16?
Rip manual transmission
I don't understand why they don't offer the 6.4 with a manual.
@@rhodesiancitizen1870 People didn't buy a diesel with a manual. I doubt they would buy a gasser with a manual.
@@abramar123 You're right about that very few people buy manuals anymore.
Automatics are much much better than manuals now. Better gas mileage, more reliable etc... Manuals are for idiots that can't get over technology.
They should at least leave it as an option for special order .... I wont buy an auto
But the big question is, will they build some base model trucks that normal people can afford without all of that electronic bullshit?
BlueDually4x4 they always do brotha!
Love our tradesmen trucks for our company!
Of course they wont. They cant screw people out of the max amount of money for things they dont need that way.
@@mcmasteriron best thing about Ram trucks. They cater to the work truck market more than anyone else.
That would be the shit!!!!
Would liked to have seen a power folding tow mirror, it sucks that they are still manual flip up.
Andre unfolded him electrically before he got out of the vehicle
John jay drott but going from driving to posing is manual. That’s what he is talking about Ford and Chevy is power tow mirrors.
1st world problems.
@@jmj267 he means flipping from horizontal to vertical for a better viewing angle
Would be nice. However I do a full inspection of truck and trailer before I leave. So I flip them out regardless. Bet will be a option as they tweak models after few years
Adding the 8-speed to the 6.4 is exactly what is needed to make that drive line a good option for us that are hauling, idling and not towing 20K. The tall ratio 6-speed did not let that engine shine at all. Ford and GM are both introducing new HD gas V8's so it'll be interesting how they all stack up.
I always knew Ram would be the first to achieve 1000 ft pounds of torque from factory nice job ram respects to you and I think a ram 3500 cummins is my next truck 💪💪🤝
yeah, having the longest stroke, it would be the easiest engine to get the high torque number
not selling enough man trans? that's bs the 4 dealers within driving distance from me cant keep them in stock
Probably 'cuz they only have like 2 in stock haha.
Was impressed with Cummins until Andre pushed it... Andre > 2019 RAM 3500. Nice try Ram, maybe next year.
Andre is powered by Vodka the ram is powered by diesel LOL
That's a dumbass way to judge a vehicle.
People pull semi's up hills, far heavier than a HD truck
That was just the frame dumbass. Go back in your power stroke, and hope that it’ll start.

@@marcusyoung2870 Not even close. He's being serious. You're as naive as he is
So now you can blow a dodge transmission at 50k instead of 100k.
Woo hoo
Good luck. That's an Aisin transmission. It's not going to break.
I see more Ford and GM than Rams at the local transmission shop.
depends how you drive....I have 2016 dodge 2500 with 530hp and 1100 ft lbs and I'm over 60k and going strong......I just have a transmission tune.....
Our 2014 had 150k no hiccups at all.
I’m a diehard gm guy, but man ram has got to be the best out there right now
Nice work Ram! Thanks TFL!
Sorry chevy boys haha. Cummins are the best looking truck awesome
When are American car companies going to prioritize reliability. I've been a dodge guy since I had my learners permit but I'm sick of my expensive vehicles breaking down expensively.I'll be going to Toyota next.
holes in the arms = dirt catchers
Trey Rich >>> they're scientific ... it's for collecting dirt samples every so often ;-)
Rust as well
Spray foam.
Dirt could still get in the old ones, so technically the holes make the new ones easier to clean when they do catch dirt, and dry faster.
weld plates over the holes.
The Chief Engineer has a pen clipped to his shirt collar... old school respect right there.
I'm a gm guy. Drove the ram and Cummins is a towing monster plus Chevy doesn't offer a solid axle. Definitely looking to buy the 2019 ram
Ram better keep the G56 no matter what
They're trying to make power, the g56 trucks made the least in the ram diesel lineup
“For better improvement “ 🤣
Mike Zeke they fired the guy that was focused on “worse improvement” in last years model :)
Not comfortable with rotary transmission dial.
Everything is electronic anyway so what's it matter?
Because it's easier to shift quickly without looking, keeps your right hand close to the wheel during shift changes, it's what us ham fisted guys are accustomed to. Think plow trucks, cop cars, off road, poor conditions with gloved hands, injured fingers. Column shifters work really well. There are so many men who love them, we have big hands, and like to keep our eyes on the road and the ladies. BMW I drive and others require too much thought. Placing things in logical places with muscle memory incorporates correct movements during high stress and emergency situations. For example, trailer brake controllers should always be near right hand and shift lever and steering, not in upper left like Chevy did.
Why? Never had any issues with mine!
@@laszlovass7326 Great points
I agree!
@@laszlovass7326 So what your saying is you don't have fingers but just big clubs at the end of your wrists? The Dial shifter is just as easy to use and I've even moved it without my thumb cause it was broken lol
@The Fast Lane Truck. I just wanted to tell you that if you go on RAM Trucks website and go under the 2019 ram 3500 section and scroll down to the part that says (MAKE ANY SPOT YOUR SPOT) for park assist there's a white 3500 dually in the middle but to the right of it there is a grey Ram limited that has a 4500 badge on the hood and has front fender flare and appears to be a widetrack front axle.
When it comes to interior design, Ram blows it out of the water. I want one.
