Great mod, just a bit of advice from former US military. You put the canteen cup on as reverse of the stove so the feed door does not heat the handles. We were issued the same stove you have during Desert Storm. We did not have lids either. In snow, we used rocks or some other hard material for support and never had the issue of sand sinking. I don't know what fella you talked to was on about. We heated rations, coffee and bath water just about daily using the standard stove and various fuels, including c-4 never had a problem.
Some good Ideas here. I like the mod using the lid on the bottom. You could always keep a small piece of aluminum foil in the kit to use as a temporary lid, if you need to use the lid as a bottom. Just a suggestion.

Bex bugout survivor channel has shown this experiment on 2 videos in which he proved that the lid makes no difference whatsoever to boiling time when compared with no lid . But , it can prevent minor water losses due to evaporation and also prevents debris falling into your water... Great idea using the lid as a base to prevent sinking tho ... impressive.. Excellent video .
Odd that you had that kind of trouble with the knock off of the G.I. canteen stove stand because those were designed to be used twice a day every day in the field for months on end, and those that I have used over the years have held up perfectly You don’t need notches Just rotate the cup 180* from where you use it

Made to be used with fuel tabs but if you did that in the snow I'd think you may risk your entire set up spilling over as tabs do not heat evenly. If you put a burner inside it may be better but the burner would still heat the side of the stove but it would take longer for the heat to work it's way down from the pot to the stove then lid. It is all theory for me and I'd be more inclined to take the time to stamp down the snow just in case rather than risk spilling lunch. The most common cup cover sold in North America is Rothco brand but they don't fit USGI cups unless they are bent by the user. The military never saw fit to make a cover as the entire kit had to pack with the stove over the cup and the canteen inside the cup.
To be honest I only use the monkey boy burner with meths on the canteen cup stove, I know how much fuel is needed so can carry "enough." Prefer that over the hexi or fire dragon fuel blocks. Used to use trioxane bars too though they're harder to find now days.
Dave Canterberry's Pathfinder Store in the USA has the best canteen cup stove. Has a built in grill on top so some air escapes under/around the cup and you never have to worry that the cup gets stuck into the stove. No extra sticks to lose. You could grill a pork chop on it! Nice job on your set up, though.
The lid came with the cup (it's a stainless steel copy of the GI canteen, about £14 for the cup and lid on Amazon), the pouch is a very old Aus Cam one that I got from Ray Mears shop 10 years ago. Hope that helps, thanks for watching and enjoy your day.

Junk!, I own a SS Pathfinder wide mouth Canteen bottle. It is truly multifunction. I can reheat meals in it and eat in it. I own a Jolmo Lander SS Cup 800ml with butterfly handles. It is highly polished that can be used as a signaling device. And, I own a pathfinder Canteen cup Stand and multi fuel stove. I can use it as a grill, wood stove, Alcohol Stove with windscreen. Plus, a "Lifgt My Fire" Spork" Now that's a Survival Military Canteen gear

Well? Ain't that something. "junk"? I am absolutely positive, more people have used the US military version than anything Dave Canterbury has ever had manufactured. He has some good gear, but not good enough to be calling everything else "junk" Just saying.
@@p2snetwork I'd argue that the Pathfinder canteen cup stove takes longer to boil water using any fuel source due to the almost solid top. The heat source will have to heat the top and then the heat will have to transfer to the cup as apposed to the GI style ones that are open topped and the heat source heats the cup directly. You're cup not being "genuine" doesn't matter. They all work the same and I know that some Australian Army soldiers use "replicas". You can also use the stove any many ways, not just the obvious way. It'll be easier to link a video but you can put the cup across the width of the stove leaving a gap that you can feed twigs down in to.......let me know if you'd like me to find a video and link it in the comments.

I also fail to see how people prefer the cylindrical "civilian" versions as I've always found it easier to use the kidney cup (USGI style) as pot, cup & bowl due to the wider "mouth" it has. Such a great system that needs to come back into style.
