- The size of the MAN TGE van meant we were unable to dyno on our rolling road. Luckily we still had our Dyno Road which allowed us to get some before and after figures.
This was never going to be the fastest van on the road, but a 41% increase is nothing to be sniffed at!

Holy crap, it’s Darkside! I just searched for a bit of MAN TGE content. These lads are local to me, I even had a mate who worked for them briefly lol.
A lot of these are used as camper vans, so good choice to get into these
Nice work mate. For the glow plug light, they changed the seals on the glow plug connectors which are shite and the connector falls off the glow plug. The red seal should be pretty much flush with the head. These also have been suffering with the high pressure fuel pumps breaking up to. If its misfiring on 1st start up in the morning then more than likely the fuel pump is on the way out, luckily if its still got warranty then the entire fuel system will be replaced. Have you seen any of the crafters suffering with the same problems? And finally, parts are cheaper from MAN than VW even though its the exact same part but in a different box.
Thanks for the heads up. This is the only MAN we have had in so we cannot comment on other issues. We haven't had any of the crafters in with issues yet either. I think prices are similar for MAN and VW but believe the MAN parts come with better warranty.
All the egt sensors must be a blessing when tuning !
I've got a 3.180 and it pulls like a train. If you want to play about with a tune for it just let me know I'm only a couple of hours away lol

If you had to put putting a larger turbo on it would it be a much of more of a difference

My sprinter Luton is 69 plate with the twin turbo lump, it’s a beast 316.
A bit ago threw it’s dummy out and I got given a transporter Luton
I don’t know what lump it had but holy hits it was absolutely gutless. We run usually max 3.5 t loaded with what we carry
It was super slow stock!

I’ve got a 3.180 4x4 8speed auto and the warranty runs out in a month or 2. What power would I be able to make, would it need the box mapping as well? How much would it cost?

@@DarksideDevelopments Also really interested about this engine because I have one manual 4x4 DAVA Crafter here. What is need to do to go beyond 200hp - near likely to remapped Passat Bi-TDI 280hp ish power? If it's not so affordable to go so high, is there any easy and cost effective particular component to swap to go near 240hp ish?
We don't have any upgrade options for those but the Passat 240 engine is totally different.
Hi guys, like your videos, just some friendly advice, how about using a video light on your camera so we can get some more detail in the shadows and dark areas like engine bays. Hopefully improve your already goods videos no end.
We do have one but it blinds whoever is on camera

Got a 170 8speed 4motion .. after watching the vid reading the comments losing all hope of making it fast enough 0-85 mph range. Would a V6 Amarok engine fit? If so got a 1000 mile engine with 25 sensors for sale 😉.. or would you upgrade components e.g turbo ect ? Money not being the deciding factor..
I'm sure if you drop an engine and a van off with a semi blank cheque it would happen and be a very nice conversion :)

Definitely doable because the T5 multivan was available in certain locations from the factory with a petrol V6.
We got them here with VR6 engine.
My 2019 crafter 140 engine code dasb rear wheel drive 41k miles taking about 500ml coolant every 500 miles . Any place to look on these common. Ive got ring uv coolant dye added and uv torch looking at night around all hoses timing area water pump , inside charge cooler and adblu tank . Under dash at heaters etc. Im at a loss where the coolant is escaping , no trace of uv dye or dampness inside cab. Are egr coolers suspect on these ?
1st place I'd check is EGR cooler.
@@DarksideDevelopments just to give some feedback on my problem its in the hands of my company trying to see where to go from here . We bypassed the egr cooler and kept an eye on it. it got worse till last weekend (44,950 miles) 1 litre every 30 miles . Think its a crack in head as after 30 mile drive home coolant light again ( van has never got to a point where it has went over 90 degrees on guage) thought ill top up in the morning, ...it was full of pressure in the morning from stone cold and bubbling away once level had naturally risen upon opening sealed system, exact same repeat the next day ....van now emptied and parked up away to an independant for thier thoughts....very dissapointed vw dont want to know as 6 weeks out of warranty but couldnt find any problem months ago.... if your interested in video of this strange fault ill send you it, ta

@@-robster-robster- I've replaced a couple of charge coolers because they leaked and a few EGR coolers for leaking too.

Van was at VW for months
Glad to get it back .
Engine and box were removed to replace the egr cooler .
They were busy , low staff and ramp availability also a factor.
We got a goodwill free of charge warranty repair as it was a couple of weeks past its 3 years warranty when it became a real issue ( remember it is only 44k miles and symptoms started at 19k miles where no one could trace the slow leak)
But the plot thickens
2 days having van back , if driven hard there is an external leak in this area now I'm waiting again on ramp time for them to recheck Thier work. Sent them pictures of the pink coolant on ground and pink dried in stains on gearbox bell housing ... They replied that will be the rear crank seal????? Really I'm bemused , if I had a ramp I'd be do the job myself . Service back up from VW ain't great , can't get the staff
@@-robster-robster- guess yours is the RWD version? Its a tight squeeze but the EGR cooler is replaceable without taking the engine out, only the gearbox. Hopefully its just 1 of the coolant hoses weeping as they also have a coolant connection in the back of the EGR that pushes into the block when you fit the cooler.
Dpd franchise owner I know bought 8 of these, Feel sorry for him he has constant problems for day 1 with the lot of them. Dealership cant fix them or not bothered
Cant remember the main fault he said kept coming back on them all. He wished he kept the sprinters
I think the early ones had Adblue faults, DPFs and Couriers don't mix!
Bet he'll end up deleting the dpf and Adblue once they are out of warranty

Not much difference in it. Slight improvement with what we did but tyres didn't help

I’ve got 6 new shape sprinters a TGE 180 and a 140 crafter. I wouldn’t have another sprinter if they were giving them away for free. They’re never out of the garage with all sorts wrong with them

Didn't think MAN do a 7 tonne van, think the only company that do that is iveco
MAN and VW crafter RWD 177/180 can be specced in 7T GVW.
Didnt think the crafters were any good for towing 180 bi turbo was useless with 3.5 tonne on the back 3l iveco daily 180 auto with spring pack and twin rear wheels i now have is light years better .
Beter even than the amarok 3l i also own . Will say amarok has more go but iveco copes much better with the weight
(Will see how amarok goes with air bags you fitted this week)
The MAN is not fast with a big load but the Iveco Auto does look appealing, it's just an Iveco! Amarok should be much more comfortable to tow now, but a fully laden van towing a heavy trailer always feels safer for some reason.
Vw clutches are a bit fragile for trailer work as well .or were maybe new ones are better . Will say vw vans are always seem nicer to drive than most others though
I'm sure you could fry the new ones doing a reverse uphill with a big trailer!

Beast. You say you want to tow 3.5t with one, so 7t all together. If it was 7t vehicle you’d need a class 2 but it’s allowed on a car license as it’s 3.5t+3.5t?

@@DarksideDevelopments until you corrupt a file because the voltage dropped to low. Seen it happen had to fix many that have gone down that way. Voltage should be no lower than 13v .
less than 12v is a problem for sure but we tune a lot of cars and have only had issues when the file is not correct for some reason.
