He was trying to correct a problem caused by The Guardian's David Leigh. Wikileaks had redacted the documents but Leigh who was a jerk and an idiot published the key to the unredacted documents in his book. Which forced Julian to then publish them too in order for the people whose names should have been redacted to know that they were now exposed and at risk.
