Julian Assange: the Price of Truth

  • The decision not to extradite Julian Assange to the United States is unlikely to be the end of his long struggle.
    For the past 10 years, Premiere Lignes has investigated Assange and the WikiLeaks network. In their first film in 2011, they interviewed Julian Assange and his team and profiled these new transparency activists who aim to disrupt citizens’ relationship with information. In 2013, they met Julian Assange again, interviewing him in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, where he described a society petrified by authoritarian excesses that he felt obliged to confront. At the time, Assange had no idea that he was going to spend seven years between four walls, watched by surveillance cameras.
    During the past decade, WikiLeaks has come under constant pressure from the U.S. government. But the site continued to publish compromising documents that illuminate and shape our world. In 2016, its interventions in the US elections played a crucial role in the election of Donald Trump. In 2017, it tried to similarly influence the French election.
    Throughout all these years, the Première Lignes team continued to investigate, regularly filming new interviews. They met with Julian Assange’s father, who regularly goes to Belmarsh prison near London, where his son is imprisoned. They also spoke to his lawyers who denounce Assange’s arbitrary detention.
    Today, Julian Assange and WikiLeaks are at a turning point in their history. For his detractors, Assange is a spy and traitor who deserves his fate. For his supporters, the extradition request is a serious and unprecedented attack on the freedom of information, protected by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Who’s to say The Guardian, Der Spiegel or Le Monde could not also be prosecuted for collaborating with WikiLeaks?
    Directors:
    Nicolas Vescovacci, Luc Hermann, Paul Moreira

    Thank you for your wisdom, knowledge and calming reassurance during these nerve wracking times which will only get worse as we ride the parabola.I rode it all the way to the bottom last time and actively traded. I didn't sell out at the bottom so had some decent profits. Please let us know when you’re starting to see the top. I don’t want to hold to the bottom again. And have engaged in active trade and managed to grow a nest egg of around 2.3Bitcoin to a decent 24Bitcoin....At the heart of this evolution is Renee Gilman, whose deep understanding of both cryptocurrency and traditional trading has been instrumental. Her holistic approach to investment and commitment to staying abreast of market trends make her an invaluable ally in navigating this new era in cryptocurrency investment.Keep up the great work you're doing and ignore the haters and those who don’t appreciate all the work you put into these videos. @@Tertia_Optio Stephen Donziger is an American attorney known for his legal battles against major oil companies, most notably Chevron Corporation. He became prominent for his role in representing a group of Ecuadorian plaintiffs in a lawsuit against Chevron, which stemmed from allegations of environmental damage and pollution caused by Texaco (which Chevron later acquired) in the Ecuadorian Amazon. The case, often referred to as the Lago Agrio oil field case, resulted in a multi-billion dollar judgment against Chevron in 2011. However, Chevron has consistently challenged the judgment, accusing Donziger of fraud and misconduct in obtaining the verdict.
      Donziger's legal battles took a dramatic turn when Chevron sued him in the United States under the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO). In 2014, a U.S. federal judge ruled in favor of Chevron, finding that Donziger had used corrupt means to secure the Ecuadorian judgment. Donziger has since faced numerous legal challenges, including contempt of court charges, leading to his disbarment and house arrest, which have attracted significant media attention and controversy over alleged judicial overreach and corporate influence.

    It should not be illegal to release classified documents. I do not see the point in having classified documents in the first place. And if you must have them it should just be ok for someone to release them in any public forum if that person deems it necessary. That’s how the system should work. And while you’re at it through your SSN and bank account numbers out there too.

    Keep telling the TRUTH! It is unconscionable that the U.S. government stole 14 years of Julian Asange’s life: from his loved ones, from important markers in all their lives and his. And for him to be tortured on top of his captivity and deprivation is too much to bear. Thanks to God that he is free at last. Truth will always be revealed. There is no excuse for the awful acts he uncovered. May your life that’s left be full of joy and wonder. You took the hit for all of us.

    I have trouble with defining a mistaken target, friendly fire, or even errors in judgment during war as murder or war crimes. The accusation of "war crime" should be restricted to acts committed with full knowledge and intent to harm outside the scope and conventions of war. Such as intentionally attacking known noncombatants.
    Had the cameras not been mistaken for weapons, had the urban theater not been so ambiguous, had the approval to fire not been granted so liberally, labeling the killings a war crime would have perhaps been appropriate. But in this case it was hyperbolic and polarizing, and the blame for that lies with the journalists describing the event.

    • @benjammin1212
      @benjammin1212 2 дня назад

      Exactly , i'm surprised people were shocked, wars are not nice friendly encounters, Collateral damage is a thing, as is blue on blue, shite happens in the fog of war,Journalists know the risks and to go around with a group of men that look exactly like the intendeed target, even wearing similar clothing, what did they expect?
      It wasn't about Assange being some kind of hero, he like all journalists wanted a sensational story..If you ask me, he was a fool, where did it get him ? And years later Russia is commiting war crimes in Ukraine, every war is the same, innocent people die..
