Actually the dance symbolizes the abuse she got in reality. She felt empowered in some way by thinking it was just her 'dance' to freedom that's why it shifts to fighting scenes to show how she wants to achieve or acquire something in order to live.

This is actually so dark, how the mind of a child processes things. It actually reminds me of a game called Fran Bow, in which the child is accused of murdering her parents and sent to a mental health facility, where they force her to take medicines. These medicines make her change to the fantasy world and the rest goes on pretty much like this. The end is also sad.

I've never heard of anyone being put on such medications for sexual or physical abuse alone. Also, I don't think people usually go to psychiatrists for this issue unless they have mental issues due to the abuse, such as Dissociative Identity Disorder, among others.
To my knowledge, they usually use a therapist (who can't prescribe medical drugs).
I'm sure at one point your comment was accurate, but compared to the 1930s, we now have a much better understanding of mental illness. Therapists strictly encourage people to obtain victory through self-belief and personal mentality.
However, I am not an expert in any way, this is just what I've noticed and read about regarding this topic; therefore, much of this information may be incorrect.

    • @DrakeOola
      @DrakeOola 2 года назад +3

That's because there is no victory. Once the trauma happens there is no 'cure', it's irreversable damage and the best you can do is cope. How do you cope after sexual abuse or seeing your family slaughtered in front of you exactly? You don't, you only numb the pain or distract yourself but most people dont have the strength or aren't in the right mindset to do so. That only leaves the option of numbing the pain with pills and they're proven to be far more effective than "courage and wisdom" like it's some kind of tangible object you can just pass along to someone who needs it.
Therapy is a massive field many devote their entire lives to study and they still havent found an effective method to treat trauma. It varies case by case and is highly dependent on the individual with relapses being a common occurance which just requires constant treatment. There aren't enough therapist in the world to constantly deal with all that work load nor can patients who actually need it, afford it since they're often barely functioning and broke.

It took a long time but I'm whole now, I lost a part of me that will forever elude my persona. There was a very real time when my family gave up on me and tried to get me into an institution, they wanted to lock me up and through away the key. after a few years and me nearly avoiding being lobotomized myself. I saw this movie and it touched my heart very deeply. This day in age lobotomy's don't happen very often. There was a time in American history where if you could not fix it, lobotomize it. What i heard as a theory was better. All the four main characters is all representations of her own personality, as humans are complex creatures. The Sucker Punch is ABOUT the lobotomy, where she has fantasy and reality mixed in. The character's dying is her own personality dying, bit by bit, as she is being lobotomized. The journey is about saving all of them which however was killed off one by one as the lobotomy proceeds. Other side characters are based on ppl she knew in her life and during her stay at the institute and how they treated her. Brothel is her sexuality, I think. She might have helped a friend escape but in the end there was no hint of murders and solely all the acts seem to be implied that was committed just by her. the movie had many metaphors and in the final end, Baby doll is also a personality of her and as she was being lobotomized she had to kill until there was only one of her so that she can 'escape' and never 'come back'. In her own way of escaping. Which is Sweet Pea. So in the end they couldn't touch who she really was, all there was left is her vegetative state of a body. So it can be said Baby doll sacrificed herself so that Sweet Pea(which I think is her original raw part of her personality when others represented other parts of her) can never ever be touched by anyone. In a way she had escaped her horrible reality and left behind her body . This movie has a very bittersweet end. And not many people can properly appreciate how mind blowing it is.

*For those who never understood Sucker Punch, here’s a synopsis and the truth:*
-The main girl Babygirl is in reality a mental asylum patient (1st layer). In five days, she’s going to get a lobotomy.
-To cope with this terrible truth, she reimagines her life of five days as a performer at a brothel (2nd layer). She needs to collect five items to “set her free”.
-The 3rd mental layer is her going to fantasy realms as she steals the items.
-Before the five days, she was able to help another mental patient escape, named Sweet Pea. This was her way of “being set free”: saving another human and not feeling any more guilt. She accidentally killed her sister in real life, so she feels redeemed and worthy now.
-On the 5th day, in real life she gets a lobotomy and feels even more free in a mental state of no worry and feelings. A bit depressing. In the 2nd layer imagination, however, she has sex with a kind high roller man (this is a deleted alternate ending which should have been kept in the film IMO).
Anyways, this whole other theory going around with Baby Doll being in Sweet Pea’s imagination kind of… 1) Makes no sense and 2) Is WAY too overcomplicated and convoluted that I don’t know why or how it originated.
Though Sucker Punch’s plot is complicated, it’s not that complicated overall in the end to understand and follow, and I’m sure many would understand it fuller and better on the second watch through. I understand why some people might have not liked the film, but I I personally liked it a lot 🙂

Story Recapped, my friend, you glossed over the whole point of the movie.
The "Sucker Punch" was Babydoll's lobotamy.
The brothel was not an actual brothel, it was the woman's psyche lock-up where (at the time) sexually using and abusing them was normal. Babydoll's experience to do her escape, or help her friend escape, was her experiencing the world as it is via her fantasy. Most of the movie is a metaphor via Babydoll's escapism.
No wonder Sucker Punch was not a hit movie... too many people just didn't get it.

I just wish it wasn't so scrambled it kept going back and forth with her fantasy & then traumatic reality; it was just too confusing for me to keep up. Almost in the style of the old ABC program "Lost". I think that's why it was just a complete miss for most of the audience. I did appreciate seeing a bad-ass "Violet Baudelaire" though, both Emily Browning's & her "Unfortunate Events" co-star Liam Aiken's talents should not be strictly reserved for obscure indie film pieces these days. Their gifted acting was always on another level. Shame.
