- After surviving a car accident, Michelle wakes up to find herself in an underground bunker with two men. Howard tells her that a massive chemical attack has rendered the air unbreakable, and their only hope of survival is to remain inside. Despite the comforts of home, Howard's controlling and menacing nature makes Michelle want to escape. After taking matters into her own hands, the young woman finally discovers the truth about the outside world.

@Al Ex it was explained in another video I watched, howard was kidnapping girls and keeping them in the bunker to care for them in a fatherly way, he had them dress in his daughters clothes etc, same outfit he gave michelle.. to make up for not paying attention to his own daughter before she passed away or something.. apparently he wasn't abusing them sexually or w/e but still.. dude was kidnapping and imprisoning girls.

Biggest plot twist is, there is an alien apocalypse outside the bunker, I though Michelle only held hostage by creep while the outside world is fine for half of the movie.
I expected her to leave the bunker in her suit, only to encounter the police or firefighters beeing alerted by the Bunkerfire and that the women outside was his wife or something acting to reassure the integrety of his story.

But this movie originally wasn't supposed to be a Cloverfield movie but slapped the title Cloverfield in just to get some Cloverfield fans attention. So Cloverfield fans already knew what was going on outside.

@Ssynos Stan he literally has a bunker where his previous victim has left a freaking "help me" message scratched in the hatch. And yes, it i still kidnapping - he rammed her car with the intention to kidnap her. Just because an alien invasion goes down doesnt mean he is suddenly not a kidnapper.
You dont chain someone up and lock them in a room if you "save them". You do not have flares of anger because the person you "saved" touches another person.
If - after all he said - she wants to leave the bunker that is her choice. Even if it was dangerous. If you try to restrain tthat person: its incarceration.
If all he wanted to do was save her he would not have kept her from making a suit and go out.
So yes: He hit her car with the intention to kidnap her. He went through with it and even after she recovered from her injury kept her incarcerated in the bunker. That is literally kidnapping.
I don't care if people don't like Paradox or this movie. Even if both failed to keep up with the original movie, I still enjoyed them nonetheless! It could've been better, though!

1. you haven't seen Cloverfield and haven't seen the ARG
2. he became enraged when she MADE A HAZMAT SUIT. IF THE AIR WAS TOXIC THAT WOULD HELP THEM. PLUS IT WOULD MEAN HE WOULD HAVE MORE SUPPLIES FOR HIMSELF AFTER SHE LEFT. HE SHOULD WANT THAT. CLEARLY HE WAS CREEPY AND ONLY SAVED HER TO MOLEST HER.

It was never intended to be connected to Cloverfield. It had thematic similarities, but was only changed like before they released the trailer after JJ Abrams got involved. The same thing happened with Paradox.

I accidentally saw this movie when it was the only movie with two tickets left. I loved it. It was so many plots and twist. It got really bad reviews when it came out but I loved it!!
Same. I saw Cloverfield so I was excited to see this movie. It was very different and I liked this movie a lot.
I think you're confusing this with The Cloverfield Paradox, as a majority of the reviews for this film were good. It's literally on 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It only got bad reviews due to that alien scene in the end. Otherwise it was rated highly.

You yourself should be aware of the situation, at least after discovering the reality of the apocalypse, and the choice of whether you live or die should not be dependent on the characteristics of a person. Your choice to live or die should simply be dependent on your own assessment of if you want to live or die. If you’d rather die than live with a “creepy” dude, by all means. Gotta make rational decisions on the reality of the situation rather than all emotional impulses. Emotions are great companions but horrible leaders.

Everybody’s arguing about whether or not the owner of the bunker was a good guy while I’m just happy he’s covered at least one movie that takes place in my state.

That is not how acid works... if that was strong enough to turn his face like that, its going to burn through his clothing as well, and the pain will be so overwhelming that you can't function. Just getting a small amount of sulfuric acid on my hand was almost unbearable once it started burning the flesh. It felt almost identical to having that skin exposed to a fire. Unless that's hydrofluoric acid, you are not going to be chasing anyone with that much of the stuff on you.

He is the psychological victim. He lost his daughter and it broke him absolutely. He may be in the position of physical authority in the story, but he is the tragic monster made by circumstance in reality. People feel for him because its easy to imagine yourself going psycho if you lost your only daughter like he did.

He probably wanted to control her and fulfill his sick fantasies. He obviously kept her alive for a reason and I doubt it's out of the goodness of his heart. One girl already died before her and who knows what he did to her.

Not to mention the fact that he killed the other guy only based on suspicion and then tried to stop her from leaving by force. A normal person would not do those things.

@@ninjabaiano6092 Yeah good point but that would mean he suspects her intentions and if he did suspect her in any way he shouldn't have brought her into his bunker in the first place. Since he already brought her to his bunker he should trust that she has the right intentions and respect her decisions as a person. A guy who wants to control women would not respect their decisions and that's the first sign that he has bad intentions-that he is keeping her as an object for his own gratification.

What even was this movie 😂😂 it was a really interesting plot if like Howard lost his daughter and was trying to replace her and so he kidnapped Michelle and used the toxic air as an excuse to keep her and like hired Leslie to pretend to be infected or whatever but then it turned into like an alien movie? Whaaaaat?!!!

This one I loved so much, I had kept this my 2nd favorite horror film for so long.
This one has lots of creative jumpscares, suspense, camera work, all that is all sorts of fun.
This has got to be one of the most enjoyable and well done horror film of all time.
I have been a fan of this, ever since it was released in 2016.
Goes to show you can put some good scares and enough suspense to make a horror film enjoyable.

This movie was really good, I watched it with my dad and we both liked it.
And I am also surprised seeing all those comments defending that man, but at the same time I'm not that surprised, you all are crazy, let's say the gas and the aliens didnt exist, well the woman would still have been kidnapped and held hostage in the bunker, just like that other girl Brittany, and he would probably ended up killing her, he wasnt saving her!!... You people need help!!!!

I remember watching this film for the first time. The rollercoaster of emotions I went though not knowing whether to believe Howard's story or not, the shocking scene with Emmett and the absolutely baffling ending. Great film.
Ok , had watched this movie earlier , when it was actually released , now eagerly waiting for what's next in the sequel , it's been a while now.
Well that took a turn of events wasn’t expecting that but this girl is a survivor for sure.

This was such a great movie, and honestly seeing this universe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead's character in future Cloverfield movies, would be quite nice providing more explanation to the lore.

It doesn't really make sense for John Goodman's character to try and save people & also be willing to kill them. Especially considering he could have just let his guests outside to fend for themselves but likely die.
Seems like he has an intense compulsion to control others. There’s also the matter of free labor from his captives/co-survivors.
