ONE THING I WANT TO ADD! If you're looking for a camera and you don't care about the newest, latest and greatest (because honestly most will not need it) then I highly recommend the a6400. I mean I'm still taking it out and shooting, it works great.
Just bought this camera (Sony a 6400) yesterday as an upgrade to my a6000. Even with so many other camera options today i still choose a6400 because of good autofocus, 4k video, FHD @120fps, Log options, weather sealing etc.
The Sony A6400 and the A6 series after it are legendary cameras in my opinion! They are such good cameras especially for when they were released and for beginners! Always recommend these cameras to friends that have built an interest in digital content! 💯✔️🔥
I got an a6400 in 2019, and it is still incredible. I do wildlife photography, and the fast af + good low light is great. the crop is also nice for wildlife, because it is like having a teleconverter always on the camera. I might upgrade to full frame in the future, and get something with bird eye af, but that probably won't be for a few years. this camera is just amazing.
I got the A6400 back in June 2019 and you are right. Great camera to learn on. Now I feel comfortable with it, love the pictures I'm taking with it and I'm pondering whether I should upgrade 😊
Just ordered a A6400, upgrading from a A6000. Amazon has a 20% rebate on the camera with kit lense. The body alone i still alot more expensive (go figure!). Mainly want it for the improved autofocus. 4k video is a bonus but honestly - for video i rather use my AX700 that has 0 rolling shutter and is all about video work.
From my experience if you're looking for good small cameras with quality, well the Sony brand is a great starting point. I started with the Sony A6300 and loved the results. I'm actually upgrading to the A6400. I'm not to concerned about having the latest model and for my needs and budget I'm getting alot out of the A6300. I'm excited to get my A6400.
I would say it’s much more than a beginner or b Camera. I have an a7 iii and I’m gonna switch to 6400 as my main camera cause it’s just so much more comfortable to shoot with a smaller and lighter camera. Once you have used a big and heavy camera(and big ass heavy lenses!!) you just don’t care about a minimal quality loss. Seriously nobody would even be able to distinguish apsc from full frame just by looking at a photo. Once again, the size and weight matters so much!
The a6400 is a phenomenal camera for starters. I've had mine for around a year and if anything, the more I used it, the more capable it seems! I can't recommend it enough. And your videos actually helped convinced me to get it😎 great video as always!
bro.. starter is a Canon t6 (witch i had).. a 6600 is medium to high... and the price is to expensive to any Sony A' s ... (here in Brazil) the dollar is 5/1
@@rdfilmefoto depends on your budget. I went with the a6400 because I wanted to have a more capable camera as my skills grew. The video specs are far greater than the t6, but yes, a much higher price. It's not as much as a higher-end camera like the A7's. For someone starting and that has a higher budget, it's a good camera.
I got this a6400 for a year now and is Fantastic if you know how to use it. Learn all the functions, make mistakes and learn from it. Learn post processing etc. Iam happy with it, an upgrade won't make me beter so for now I am keeping it ;)
It's a B cam that I've used as an A cam for 3 years, currently getting flown out to shoot in NY with it too! 🤣🥂 Phenomenal camera, if you have color grading and the creative mindset down you can easily use the a6400's 4K to your advantage since it's 6K downsized. For the price, great beginner camera as mentioned that will deliver.. just grab a gimbal ;)
Helping beginners is probably the main reason to create a video/ format like this and I have to tell I like it, even if I'm not a beginner anymore. I learned photography with a Canon EOS550D before 10 years. At this time the canon was about to become 3-4 years old. I watched a lot of tests and videos and many people told, that you will have tons of benefits if you're deciding for a newer generation. I just wanted to get in cheap, ignored the opinions and started. I made many amazing photos and for me it was absolutely worth it. At the point, I bought 2-3 prime lenses the results blew me away 🤯 even with this "old" camera I was able to shoot amazing portraits and co. Some friends off me bought themself always high end stuff but did not spend that much time for the hobby as I did and they wondered how it is possible for me tho have that good results compared to their 2000€ cameras. If you are a beginner, just take that what you like the most, and you will use it as much as possible. If you don't like it, you won't use it. Before roundabout two years, I got the 6400 from my wife as a present and I really love this camera till today and use it a lot. I don't have a second big fullframe-beast for something else like that, I'm just using the Sony a6400. I don't do much videography, the most things I do is photography. The Autofocus is still fast as hell and the camera does the job really well. But why did I tell that over to you guys? I just want to let you know, that it is not important if you're spending money in the old camera or in a newer generation with more support. The biggest and best results he will get if you just take your camera do photos and spend time with it. Doesn't matter if this is a Sony, Nikon, Fuji, canon or whatever. With this camera, combined with 3-4 good lenses and a bit equipment you'll get very nice results! If you know absolutely everything or you need more quality let's say for print media, you should switch to full frame. If you do some Hobbyshots, this camera will does the job. Never forget, before 3-4 years this camera was a high end camera 😉
I have the A6400. I was still craving for the full frame Sony. Then I realised what I had was someone else's dream. Many people can't afford the a6400. Also If I can't make good images with an A6400, the problem is not with the camera but me. I decided to keep the a6400 and paired it with some primes. I have decided not to buy a full frame until I have used the a6400 to its full potential.
This is a good comment. I’m looking at maybe getting an a6100, a6400, a7ii or a7iii. I could get the a7ii used for less than the 6100, but video will be worse, colours might be worse, and of course it’s old so out of warranty. To get the best of both worlds would be the a7iii, I can find this at twice the price of the 6100. That’s a good deal, but still a lot of money for your first camera, not factoring in lenses..
@@kristiangurholt59 go for a6400 or a7iii. If you are short on money and can only afford a7iii then it's not worth it cause you'll need lenses. Then go for a6400 and buy a good prime lens according to your needs.

I needed a camera with a fast autofocus... I didn't want to change the Fuji system and I couldn't afford a Fuji flagship, so the A 6000 was the best choice. Paired with Sigma 56 mm 1.4 it's a perfect combo.
Thank you for this awesome and detailed review! I'm just planning to buy a camera, but I'm still hesitating. I don't know which one would be the best for landscape, travel and street photography A6400, X-S10, XT30 M2 or maybe something else? Which one would you recommend in terms of image quality and low light performance and focus accuracy for the above mentioned styles/modes and battery life last but not least? Thank you so much for your answers and help guys! 😀✌️
Bought it a year and a half ago and I’ve been using it with Samyang FF 35mm f1.4 and the Venus Optics Laowa 9mm Zero Distorsion. Tbh the AF of the Samyang on the a6400 is not reliable at all neither for photo or video. So if you’re gonna buy some lenses for it, go with sigma or sony if you want good AF.
Unpopular opinion... In that price range, i would rather go with Fujifilm xt3 or xt4, especially if you're a beginner that wants to do video and photography. You get more out of it.
It's not the camera, it's the shooter behind it. I see many Sony apsc user better than fuji user and I also see many Fuji user better than Sony user. Its up to them for what they want the camera to be, and since its a6400 video, so its explained all the a6400 nice things.
I bought a sony a6000 judt over a year ago to see if i would like photography. Im really enjoying it so far, I have no interest in recording videos. Is it worth me upgrading from the a6000 considering i only use it for photography?
I have an a6500. It actually looks very close to cine footage from the fs5 and fs7. With some issues it is still a great video camera and can definitely get you a really nice look. I actually prefer the super 35 look a lot of the time. Grab some unique lenses and you'll defs have a good time.
I am in the market in buying a camera for my channel. Do you feel that the camera is great for vlogging and YT videos or do you feel that the canon m50 mark ll would be a better choice?
I use an a6000 and 55-210mm kit sony lens and I just can't auto focus, it will only sharpen lets say the eye of the bird and none of the feathers. I also as a result manual focus and lose my shot half the time as bird has flown away. How is the a6400 with the 70-350mm focus and the sharpess of getting the whole body of a bird?
I think I'd rather have the a6600 or a6500 since so many of the lenses being released for aps-c don't have any stabilization. That limits it's effectiveness for certain situations. Outside of that it's great as a starter camera. Most people might prefer the ZV-E10 with the explosion of video content.
@@thaticelandicguy I agree. I've tried only using the flip screen but for taking pictures the flip screen just isn't as useful for framing my photos as the evf.
IBIS is mehhh in Sony APSC it doesnt make much difference (unlike Olympus). It may work for photography, but for videography you might as well categorize those models as without IBIS.
@@gigihanmandarin It's photography that we're speaking about where the ibis is really beneficial. If you want smooth video you get a gimbal. But if you're shooting some scenes like a fight sequence and you want to shoot handheld, ibis is also great for getting more usable footage in that senerio as well. In short the a6400 is great as a replacement for the a6300 because of the updated autofocus capabilities. However the a6500 outclasses it as an action sports shooting camera with its hight burst rate and ibis and the a6600 outclasses it with an even better autofocus system, larger battery and ibis. So it's a great starter camera, but for the money, there are some others right above it that I'd recommend over it in just about every senerio. But I would take it over the zv-e10 because of the evf.
I have one but I don't have a lens yet so there is no picture in the screen I don't see anything do I have to buy the lens or something wrong with my camera
I have seen professionals using a6400 as primary camera😂 It's an aps-c crop censor so ut lacks behind in low light situations when compared to full frame cameras. It has 8bit footage so can't stretch it too much for color grading. But it's more than enough to make a full fledged career out of.
I have the a6600 (almost the same) and must say I really enjoy it. The size also works for me since I make 4x4 videos, therefore always on the move. I am actually the PP you have made a video about and it works fantastic. Once you know it you understand that it is so much better than a phone etc. Quick question, how would the rate the quality of the 1080p in 60/120 vs a action camera that do this in 4k?
Hi! can any camera expert help me. I have the sony a6400. I accidentally bought a portrait lens to replace the lens (it got broken) what wide lens adaptor can i get? to achieve wide lens despite the portait lens

I've shot a wedding with one. The biggest concern is only one SD card slot so you run the risk of losing data if your card breaks or malfunctions compared to some of the bigger cameras that offer two SD card slots.
I'm going to buy this as my first camera. Been making videos with a phone, gimble, and gopro. I see in another video you recommended a $800 lens, Sony 18-105 f4 G. I plan to take landscape pictures. Any other lens suggestions that are more affordable for landscape shots?
Unlucky for me I didn't bought it way back 2019-2021, Prices now are 200$ higher, Now I'm waiting again when the prices drops since sony already announce the reproduction of a6400. Damn chip shortage! Can't wait!
hi. im just jumping from a gx85 to an a6400 and i noticed awb takes a long time to complete. on gx85 it was very fast, but on this sony it takes sometimes seconds. so, my questions would be: can i make this faster (camera to automatically detect wb faster, not like such a smooth transition - it's like too long and if i want to quickly film something it might be inconvenient) and also how do i know when wb detection is complete (since it can take seconds to automatically determine white balance of a particular scene, how do i know if it got it or i should wait, say, another second? this is of interest to me because when awb detection is complete i lock it down with awb-lock and i dont want to lock it before its finished detecting it)?
Hey! I need some help with cameras I have always been interested in cinematography (I don’t know how to type it, haha) and I learn things REALLY fast and I have been looking at some LUMIX cameras and the Sony a6_00 series but it’s really hard to find something and the budget is around 5000kr-7000kr (swedish) any recommendations it just needs to be good at filming and good in lowlight😁
It IS a never ending battle. It will get better as you go along though...kids, that is. My youngest is 20 now and the tables have turned "Papa, can I clean that up for you?" HA! Great review/advice from the master, as always. Liked and viewed in full, Marcus
Both a6400 and a6600 are basically same with few upgrades in a6600! Most people that have double camera setups have one full frame and one crop sensor camera! If you could bump up your budget, buy a full frame camera like A7C or A7iii. Otherwise you can definitely go for a6400, ev-10 (even cheaper option then a6400)
I would definitely recommend sony ev-10 as it has same recording capabilities as a6400. (It isn't weather sealed and build quality is not as good as a6400)
Hey man! I actually got it and its been great! But Im having an issue. Everytime I take a shot in JPG, it takes 3 at the same time. I dont know why and how to change that! Any ideas? Thanks!!!

It's my only and one camera. It bugs me a lot its rolling shutter In 4k and also the lack of IBIS. So watch out for that if you're considering buying this camera.
@@janetheobscure3426 IBIS is the sensor stabilization which this camera has none. Rolling shutter to simply put is a "jelly" look to your image when you record in 4k and the image has a lot of movement.

I'm happy that you leveled up to full frame. Your points are valid and I hope you continue to cover aps-c. Keep up the good work!
I am still using this camera and love it still
Unpopular opinion...
Hello! Was wondering if you could share your reasons for that opinion?
The only reason I don't like Fujifilm is because sony cameras are insanely popular. So it's easy to find it's accesories or used lens.
Hei, which camera do you use for filming this video? Your video has an incredible quality
I bought a sony a6000 judt over a year ago to see if i would like photography. Im really enjoying it so far, I have no interest in recording videos. Is it worth me upgrading from the a6000 considering i only use it for photography?
Great video thanks 😃
I have an a6500. It actually looks very close to cine footage from the fs5 and fs7. With some issues it is still a great video camera and can definitely get you a really nice look. I actually prefer the super 35 look a lot of the time. Grab some unique lenses and you'll defs have a good time.
I am in the market in buying a camera for my channel. Do you feel that the camera is great for vlogging and YT videos or do you feel that the canon m50 mark ll would be a better choice?
Fint!
Ha en trevlig helg! :)
Hello! Thank you for this video! What are the best settings and lense for real estate?
Mr. Iceland guy. Should I upgrade my 6400 to fx30?
I use an a6000 and 55-210mm kit sony lens and I just can't auto focus, it will only sharpen lets say the eye of the bird and none of the feathers. I also as a result manual focus and lose my shot half the time as bird has flown away. How is the a6400 with the 70-350mm focus and the sharpess of getting the whole body of a bird?
what lens do you recommend for the a6400?
is this camera good for shooting event outdoor at night? Need moving around and zooming on and off
I think I'd rather have the a6600 or a6500 since so many of the lenses being released for aps-c don't have any stabilization. That limits it's effectiveness for certain situations. Outside of that it's great as a starter camera. Most people might prefer the ZV-E10 with the explosion of video content.
I like the zve10 buuuut I really miss the view finder lol 😂 can't get used to not having it when I'm taking photos
@@guppetto I'm just saying Sony IBIS is inferior compared to the competition.
I still use it in 2022, looking to upgrade soon!
I have one but I don't have a lens yet so there is no picture in the screen I don't see anything do I have to buy the lens or something wrong with my camera
So…what does the A6400 Not do that would be needed to call it a pro camera? I other words, what features are missing?
I have seen professionals using a6400 as primary camera😂
It's an aps-c crop censor so ut lacks behind in low light situations when compared to full frame cameras. It has 8bit footage so can't stretch it too much for color grading. But it's more than enough to make a full fledged career out of.
Sir what can you recommend for a mid level photographer and videographer that is looking for a sony A series camera. Thank you.
Thank you for this! I'm a vocalist looking to invest in a good high quality beginner camera for music videos.
The “lunch, loynch, Launch!” Part took me out😂 as a native English speaker the language is broken💀
How do you compensate for lack of image stabilization?
Hello Sir.. I am beginner and have A6400. Can you please teach me what is the better pp colour setting is good for general daily usage? Please help..
Were you using it to film this video ?
Hi! can any camera expert help me. I have the sony a6400. I accidentally bought a portrait lens to replace the lens (it got broken) what wide lens adaptor can i get? to achieve wide lens despite the portait lens
So what’s your main camera now?
a74 :)
hello, I am currently using a Sony a7ii, I am professional photographer but don't know much about gear, looking to get a secondary camera while my main is being repaired should I do Sony a6000 or a6400 its down to those two. also will be keeping this camera long term as well
hello, what camera are you using for this video?
Is it still good if it will use in wedding photography?
I've shot a wedding with one. The biggest concern is only one SD card slot so you run the risk of losing data if your card breaks or malfunctions compared to some of the bigger cameras that offer two SD card slots.
I'm going to buy this as my first camera. Been making videos with a phone, gimble, and gopro. I see in another video you recommended a $800 lens, Sony 18-105 f4 G. I plan to take landscape pictures. Any other lens suggestions that are more affordable for landscape shots?
Im heading out to pick up the a6400 in an hour and a half so excited.
ZV-E10 besides I am a strong believer in doing one good purchase which will last longer. Money saved and more sustainable.
thats a nice camera too, you like it?
@@thaticelandicguy think that’s the best aps c (cheaper than A6400 also) otherwise A7IV
My straight question, does it have that capability that if I take photos and videos of client and they pay ? Is this camera capable of making money ?
What did You use to film this video?
What is your camera for recording youtbe videos?
For a “budget” camera I still like the a6100 more because of the tracking AF.
Well, the A6400 is often on sale and then its a no brainer considering it has weather sealing and some functions the A6100 lacks and a better EVF.
@@jmkhenka true, if the a6400 and a6100 is the same price used or new, i would rather get the a6400.
The lunch was a long time ago, but it still looks real guuud
Great for real estate!
Can you please make a video with the new sony 11mm with the sony a6400
I love my a6400 very much and use it as my primary camera in all of my videos for my RUclips channel.
Unlucky for me I didn't bought it way back 2019-2021, Prices now are 200$ higher, Now I'm waiting again when the prices drops since sony already announce the reproduction of a6400. Damn chip shortage! Can't wait!
i got the ZV-E10 last year instead for the slightly better video capabilities, but I've often wondered if I should have gotten this instead...
hi. im just jumping from a gx85 to an a6400 and i noticed awb takes a long time to complete. on gx85 it was very fast, but on this sony it takes sometimes seconds.
so, my questions would be: can i make this faster (camera to automatically detect wb faster, not like such a smooth transition - it's like too long and if i want to quickly film something it might be inconvenient) and also how do i know when wb detection is complete (since it can take seconds to automatically determine white balance of a particular scene, how do i know if it got it or i should wait, say, another second? this is of interest to me because when awb detection is complete i lock it down with awb-lock and i dont want to lock it before its finished detecting it)?
Best lens for Street photography with a6400 ? 😅
I like the 16-55 f2.8 :)
This camera or a7ii?
What gear did you use to film the video
Sony A7IV (:
I've never tried the lumix sorry, but sony apsc is what I've used for the last 6-7 years and I can recommend them for sure! :)
It IS a never ending battle. It will get better as you go along though...kids, that is. My youngest is 20 now and the tables have turned "Papa, can I clean that up for you?" HA! Great review/advice from the master, as always. Liked and viewed in full, Marcus
hahaha one day lol! Thank you for always tuning in Marcus!
Would this camera be suited for a secondary angle camera along side of a primary A6600?
Both a6400 and a6600 are basically same with few upgrades in a6600!
Most people that have double camera setups have one full frame and one crop sensor camera!
If you could bump up your budget, buy a full frame camera like A7C or A7iii.
Otherwise you can definitely go for a6400, ev-10 (even cheaper option then a6400)
I would definitely recommend sony ev-10 as it has same recording capabilities as a6400. (It isn't weather sealed and build quality is not as good as a6400)
Zev-10 also lacks viewfinder but if you only use it for video production then it's not gonna matter...
“Is it still worth it in 2024” - video posted 2 years ago… wtf just make a new video instead of changing the title.
I still use it, its still worth it, í would make the exact same video if I made a new
I still use the a6400 as the main camera for work until now
Hallo guys, anyone has tried a6400 with a samyang 85mm 1.4? Is that a good combo?
Hey man! I actually got it and its been great! But Im having an issue. Everytime I take a shot in JPG, it takes 3 at the same time. I dont know why and how to change that! Any ideas? Thanks!!!
That’s because you have it in bracketing mode. ChaNge to either single shot or burst
Hi people, someone is selling me this a6400 in 400$ but it’s gonna be my first camera so idk, I’m going to travel to Alaska in February and I wonder if this camera is capable of do a good job with the northern lights, thank u for ur time
Can you say what’s your main income source to support your family? I’m from Romania and as a photographer/videographer if you’re not into weddings you’re pretty much stuck with low paying clients whatever strategy you’re trying to adopt or industry you want to get into.
I'm a full-time RUclipsr since now 2 years. I barely do client works anymore ☺️🤘🏻
@@thaticelandicguy I’m super happy to hear that. You deserve a good living off RUclips.
@@levidaragiu thank you means a lot my friend ☺️🙏🏻
@@thaticelandicguy Is 100k subs enough to go full time?
For an average user with a low budget. Super yes.
It's my only and one camera. It bugs me a lot its rolling shutter In 4k and also the lack of IBIS. So watch out for that if you're considering buying this camera.
The lack of ibis is ok imo, but the heavy rolling shutter in 4k is bad, it has aöways bugged me for sure
What’s a rolling shutter in 4K and IBIS?
@@janetheobscure3426 IBIS is the sensor stabilization which this camera has none. Rolling shutter to simply put is a "jelly" look to your image when you record in 4k and the image has a lot of movement.
Jesus love you all so much❤️✝️
