I absolutely love cold camping videos. I am so excited the season is finally here. Thank you for never ceasing to amaze me with all that is possible in beautiful Canada.
I always was baffled about folks not dragging an electric chain saw. Your wife has good since, mine divorced me because i was me. What about those backcountry ski things LL Bean? Shuffling rather than trudging ?
Best outdoor RUclips channel hands down. Jon your filming abilities are second to very few almost none as far as we see you and Erin are the Faces of Outdoor Canada. We can't wait for the adventure...
For those who don't know, it's a 10:1 ratio of snow to liquid water by volume. It would take 10 pots of melted snow to get one pot of liquid water. Snow is also very porous, which makes it a pain to melt. I'm always amazed at how that little stove can keep a thin walled tent, with no insulation, warm in the winter! Excellent trip Bud!!
I've started putting your videos on in the break room at work while I'm on my lunch break.. taking advantage of the smart TV lol. Slowly but surely getting more people hooked
No sponsors but the sonar, ice skimmer, and ice fishing camera are all in the Amazon storefronts linked below (along with other gear we like) if you're looking and want to support the channel 🙏 The ice skimmer wasn't revolutionary but I still liked it better than other flimsy scoops I've used. ⮞ CANADIAN 🍁 (.ca) LINKS: ⮜ www.amazon.ca/shop/backcountryanglingontario ⮞ AMERICAN 🦅 (.com) LINKS: ⮜ www.amazon.com/shop/backcountryanglingontario Legal: I earn a commission off purchases made through these links at no extra cost to you.
I camp out by my fire pit in my back yard when it snows like a bastard. I'm less than 30 yards from a warm toilet seat lol. But watching these two awesome people and their winter camping videos awakened my love for cold camping that I gave up in the late 80's. Thanks again Jon and Erin.
Another outstanding video John! Your compositions are state of the art. I love the jump cuts between soft and hard water at the start of the video. I was immediately transported!
Now that was an awesome video, thank you for sharing. Being from southern Alabama in the US, we don’t get to go ice fishing, so I’m always excited to see videos of folks doing it. That was cool that Erin came out to help you setup, she’s definitely a keeper. Thanks again Jon for sharing
Always fantastic content Jon and Erin! Gorgeous red meat on that sweet Brook trout. I was drooling with vicarious memories of eating them fresh from lake to pan like that! It's simply the best.
Loving the return of some shorter form content! I absolutely love your super long form stuff but this is so much more digestible and so much easier to sit through in one go!, looking forward to more of these!
Such a cool intro, almost like watching the forest freeze over in time lapse, which would be epic if it was possible. I'm jealous of your extreme cold as usual! Erin rocking the OAC skis, love those.
That was fun. Thanks for sharing. This is my favorite season to watch your channel. Never get to experience anything this in Florida. Ice fishing is on my bucket list. 🤙
I have the same model of deeper as the one you are using. I have used it for ice fishing as well as on rivers and streams. Another nice and portable unit that you can out in your pocket and carry around when hiking up and down rivers and can scan much larger areas when casting it out into lakes and rivers. All your fishing trips can easily retrieved in the units program for later study.
Thank you for doing this channel and your style of videos. I love your summertime canoe trips. Reminds me of when I was younger in a canoe. There is absolutely nothing better than being solo on a lake.
Jon and Erin! Great to see you two at it again! I’m a skinny lad who grew up in Texas and Southern California so watching Erin in that icy plunge took my breath away. Jon, it’s good to see another fellow hammocks who lands the plane in winter! I tried and tried both on backpacking trips and day hiking local woods near home to get into hammocking in winter with a blue ccf mat and a reflectix mat underneath it and I was still freezing after a time. I’ve decided that I will stick to tents on winter trips. Much warmer for me and I can spread stuff out better. Great trip here and you two take care. NQU
Loved this!!!! The trout! OMG!!!! When y’all first drilled that first hole - WOW!!! And so loved that perspective at the beginning showing summer then bam - winter! So cool to see that!!! Thanks Jon and Erin!!! As always - my fave people online ever!
Brrrrr...i love your winter camping videos but ever since i saw Erin in the ice doing her survival video i shiver and shiver watching these videos. No more ice swimming Erin!!!!
Thanks Jon and can’t wait to see more winter camping . Always a good book end to the seasons you are able to tackle . Great capture of that amazing sun dog , truly spectacular vision , not to mention the Brook Trout . Good fish fry eating to warm the soul.
You finally got me guys. I just finished testing my hammock for winter conditions and I’m out this weekend for my first winter back country! Thanks for the continued inspiration. 😊
Wonderful. as always! I love it when I see another video pop up!! Have together more clothes on when I watch your winter camping. I’m from Louisiana and we’re cold at 50! Beautiful camera work! The colors of that fish were beautiful! Thanks again Jon!
Oh perfect - we've had a whole 1cm of snow here and I've just come in from having a little fire in my garden log burner and enjoying a winter's night and now I get to see it done properly!
Hi Erin , Jon Looks so very cold indeed at those temps .Like that little sonar nicer than big n bulky if it works nice Brookie tasty for sure I miss fishing for them . Thanks for this short sweet camping adventure , see ya on the next one !
I've caught literally thousands of perch, lake trout, pike and walleyes through the ice on Swedish pimples. My all time favorite jigging spoon. That little grub you put on there mnight have sealed the deal. Really cool closeup of the scales too.
I have hot tented and slept in everything from igloos to holes in cornices' on a Yukon mountain and all over the Arctic.. literally (sovereignty ops) and I can tell you that you Sir are an exceptionally skilled woodsman. It is refreshing to see the next generation enjoying the life that I once adored. Cheers to you and Erin. From an OG Thunder Bayer! Cheers.
I got one of these fish finders for my Canoe this summer! It's light enough to take into the back country, even with the clamp mount they sell, and at least provides you with some good information like depth, water temp and structure.
Great video, Jon. You've got me pumped for ice fishing some brookies when the season opens here on February 1st. Although we have zero snow or ice as of yet on the East coast of the island.
Always excited to see you post!! Awesome content! bit of personal constructive criticism if I may, on the editing, I thought the cuts on this video were a bit too fast. The video could have been a few minutes longer with longer individual shots to give us time to enjoy each shot
I've been spending a lot of time in your back catalogue (since you'd have to be doing 5 trips at once 24/7 to keep up with my viewing!) and I've always loved your videography and editing, but the recent videos have been stepping it up another notch! Only a few minutes in and I'm already impressed!
From Maine and absolutely love your videos and the hard work that goes into just making the video and all the stuff behind the camera that we don’t see can’t thank you enough for giving ur fans this opportunity to try and do it ourselves stay blessed John and Erin
Happy New Year U and Erin. thank you for bringing us along. Especially love the trout fishing 🎣 videos. Bet that dead kill spruce didn’t burn long at all-25. Great video to start 2025. Happy times
Brrrrr I felt cold just watching it, cant imagine - 37c windchill... Luckily never getting close to that here in Scotland! Looking forward to seeing what else you get upto this season!
A nice outing Jon to start off the hardwater season. That giant bobber sonar is pretty slick. Looks like that lake has freshwater shrimp judging by the colour of the flesh on that brookie.
John you should check out the hot tent pellet stoves. Not the same as cutting wood, splitting, storing. But the stove seems to burn alot hotter and longer. I'm Looking forward to the winter trip videos bud. I am the guy that broke his arm when you messed up your leg. I do alot of remote winter camping up here in northern maine.
Wow....now that I finished the video I have to say....u know when its super cold when the snow crunches like that!. Pretty cool fishing device! wish I had that growing up!. 50 degrees is pretty damn warm for a tent! I have to say, I licked my lips when u cooked that trout! always love ur vids buddy..stay safe.
One of my favorite things about winter is knowing your hot tenting trips are coming!!! Love the before and after shots of the lakes and the trek in was beautiful 🤩
Go to a goodwill or second hand store and buy some skis and mount them on your sleds you will be amazed at how much easier it is to pull them also I love your videos and am jealous of your lifestyle keep going full support from me
Great shots, especially the before and after drone shots at the start, impressive to line up the frames that well (and to have the foresight 4 weeks in advance!) My only complaint is that is was only 16m, i could have kept watching for hours! Will have to wait for the next one I guess. Thanks as always Jon!
I absolutely love cold camping videos. I am so excited the season is finally here. Thank you for never ceasing to amaze me with all that is possible in beautiful Canada.
I love winter camping videos too, i tried it out a few years ago and love doing them now.
Me, too. I swear, I get chilly watching these freezing videos.
I always was baffled about folks not dragging an electric chain saw. Your wife has good since, mine divorced me because i was me. What about those backcountry ski things LL Bean? Shuffling rather than trudging ?

YOU ARE CORRECT!!! JON AND ERIN ARE THE BEST!!!!! 🤓
Yes I absolutely agree 💯% 👍

Sorry if you have mentioned it before, but what is the make/model of that wood stove? Are you happy with it? I have only ever used kni co stoves.
I camp out by my fire pit in my back yard when it snows like a bastard. I'm less than 30 yards from a warm toilet seat lol. But watching these two awesome people and their winter camping videos awakened my love for cold camping that I gave up in the late 80's. Thanks again Jon and Erin.
Nice one buddy, liked the cinematic slow mo sequence and music, v fitting.
You and Erin, did it again. Totally awesome. Thanks Jon 🍻 Cheers
Another outstanding video John! Your compositions are state of the art. I love the jump cuts between soft and hard water at the start of the video. I was immediately transported!
Thank you!!
What a lovely time in our awesome northern winter ! TY!
my 2 favorite Canadians.....and my 1 favorite survivor!!!
The cold camping vids are my favourite. So cosy to watch from my warm bed. I know winter is truly here when John's first cold camping video lands 😊

Been waiting all year for the winter vids! Living vicariously from the hot southern USA!

Appreciate that! :)
Such a cool intro, almost like watching the forest freeze over in time lapse, which would be epic if it was possible. I'm jealous of your extreme cold as usual! Erin rocking the OAC skis, love those.
So wish I could get a timelapse like that!
Dude I love your videos. I’m 70 now and love camping but I never did the amazing things you have done. This one is really entertaining
Really appreciate the cinematography! The sunset and sunrise shots were stunning
That was fun. Thanks for sharing. This is my favorite season to watch your channel. Never get to experience anything this in Florida. Ice fishing is on my bucket list. 🤙

Brook Trout is sooo delicious, it could very well be considered seafood...lol. Fantastic video guys, thank you!!
Beautiful, just so beautiful, real winter, delicious fish, real people… Thank you!
Winter at its finest up there

It’s funny how happy & excited I get when you catch a brook trout. No better way to spend a winter weekend.
Love it! First taste of winter, can't wait for more!
I got one of these fish finders for my Canoe this summer! It's light enough to take into the back country, even with the clamp mount they sell, and at least provides you with some good information like depth, water temp and structure.
Just what I needed a video from Lost lakes to help me relax😊👍🐟🐟🐟🐟

Great video, Jon. You've got me pumped for ice fishing some brookies when the season opens here on February 1st. Although we have zero snow or ice as of yet on the East coast of the island.
Thanks Troy! Hope some comes your way soon
I'm pretty happy with my Deeper Sonar too. When I'm in my hut, I leave it outside in my tipup hole. Nice and light for run and gun too. Good video!
Always excited to see you post!! Awesome content! bit of personal constructive criticism if I may, on the editing, I thought the cuts on this video were a bit too fast. The video could have been a few minutes longer with longer individual shots to give us time to enjoy each shot
And I wish more comments were like yours :) Supportive and helpful--thanks!
So excited for your winter cold camping videos! Keep up the great work!!❤
Another great adventure. Nice to see the catch n cook. The bright red and orange of that brook trout meat was pretty spectacular.
I've been spending a lot of time in your back catalogue (since you'd have to be doing 5 trips at once 24/7 to keep up with my viewing!) and I've always loved your videography and editing, but the recent videos have been stepping it up another notch! Only a few minutes in and I'm already impressed!

short format viedos are cool too i do love all the stuff you make john
Well done! Even on a shorter video, you still got aa the good bits in .
I've been using a Deeper for about 4yrs now. Game changer, allowing mapping of unknown lakes :)
Nice to see you guys. Thanks so much for the video. 🙂
Brrrrr I felt cold just watching it, cant imagine - 37c windchill... Luckily never getting close to that here in Scotland! Looking forward to seeing what else you get upto this season!
I love the winter and the cold! But that’s too cold for me to want to camp. 😂 beautiful video as always
A nice outing Jon to start off the hardwater season. That giant bobber sonar is pretty slick. Looks like that lake has freshwater shrimp judging by the colour of the flesh on that brookie.
