  • Chad Smith shares insight on his Paiste setup and history with Eric Moore during a recent visit on stage at the Red Hot Chili Peppers gig in Las Vegas. On this occasion, Chad uses original uncoated models, which he alternates with the “Matte Silver” finish versions depending on mood and setting.
Congratulations to Chad and RHCP on the brand new release of “Return of the Dream Canteen”!

But they lack some options: No brilliant B20 cymbals, not enough variety when it comes to dark and goodsounding chinas (the 2002 chinas or rude stuff is not my cup of tea and their modern essential chinas or the signatures are too expensive for a hard hitter like me who is an expert at destroying china cymbals especially considering the fact that there are cheaper and better sounding china options by other companies, too).

No matter how you feel about RHCP (I personally love BSSM and OHM but don't listen to a whole lot of their catalogue), you have to admit Chad is one of the most solid, groovinest dudes ever and I'm stoked he's playing Paiiste now- I always thought they were some of the best sounding cymbals I've ever heard

SABIAN. I have been playing Sabian for over 25 years, but I do love Paiste cymbals, after seeing Dave Lombardo and Charlie Benante play the Novo china. It's awesome to see Chad playing different gear.

Im a Sabian guy. But Paiste really shows what can be done with B8 with good hammering and lathing techniques. 2002 line is incredible
