Really good tips. Back when I was younger, I practiced martial arts, and learning to fall is one of the first things they teach you in grappling arts. And they basically teach you to fall exactly the way you describe - you want as much surface area of your body making contact at the exact same time, to spread out the impact across as much of your body as possible. I might catch some flak for this, but if you have any loved ones, people who you care about, family, etc... you owe it to them to always wear a helmet, especially when you're out in city streets. Traumatic brain injury can happen in an instant, and it won't always be your fault, either, just being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Call me an old fart, but I wouldn't be of any use to my wife as a vegetable.
Thanks for your concern! You won't catch an ounce of flack from me for being considerate of my life! Also, I took years of martial arts when I was younger, and learned to fall from it! ;) It's coold how disciplines can work so well together!
Helmets are hella cool, and actually, as a girl, I find it hot to see guy-skaters with helmets. It means that not only are you a badass skater, but you also have a considerate heart - double whammy right there.

I only skate indoors and haven’t skated outside in ab 10yrs and today was a reality check because I thought I could go to a local park and peacefully skate on a seemingly nice pavement trail, it was anything but peaceful lol I think it was more of my fear of going too fast and having no control, I forgot hills were a thing . Thank u for making this video and I have a lot of respect for your skills. I clearly have a whole lot to learn.
I'm one of the people who has asked for this, so thanks! I'd likely start in low-traffic areas, so I especially appreciate the heads up about glass. I hadn't though about that.
With soft wheels glass can cut big chunks out the wheels and get stuck in them especially if surface is slightly wet. Mind your eyes when you pick it out your wheels 👍
I’ve been mostly city skating since skating rinks are far from where I live, and I just realized I’ve been doing quite a few of these without realizing. But a lot of these really helped me, and I’m thinking about investing in in-lines so I can do a lot of this stuff since I live in a place with lots of uneven surfaces.
Don’t let your rollerblade wheels go in the grooves in the road or especially side walks. Look for patch’s of lawn or grass to slow down on or crash on. Always have one foot a little further then the other, I’m right handed but I always lead with my left foot even though it’s weaker then my right.
You’ve got balls of rock hard steel to be doing all those dazzling moves around a moving train. 7:15. One of my biggest fears is tripping on a curb and ending up underneath a bus.

This was super helpful. I've been out skating three times, two times without pads. The last time was today with pads and it gave me the confidence to make small jumps though, which made it a lot easier to navigate over/around the cracks in the road. Stopping immediately is hard so i'm going to practice sitting down while skating next time, like you said, and try not to relate on my pads too much.
I love your emphasis on safety. Absolutely nothing else matters if you don’t know how to be safe and knowing how to fall is crucial. I’m actually glad I’m learning how to skate outdoors as well, since it seems more challenging. Lastly, nice job showing how to skate in a city that isn’t all polishy and perfectly paved 😅

Thank you for this c: I live in an area where I simply can't get to any skateparks without a car, not to mention most of the outdoor ones are either really dangerous, run down or attracts really sketchy people (Being female that is terrifying), and the indoor ones are just open in the evenings outside of bus times (living on the countryside that means no buses after 7, none on weekends), so that leaves me with having to skate on rough roads with no sidewalks
Bro skating seems so awesome, there are a lot of smooth roads where I live, just a car-dependent area, it's going to be such a good time learning to city skate in a more "beginner" friendly area it sounds like fro m your video, thanks!
I’ve been contemplating wearing a helmet more often lately. I don’t think about it much because the places I skate in my city have little to no cars. I think that instinct comes more naturally the later in life you learn skating.. my mom had me skating as soon as I could walk, so I am still adjusting to all the viewers who tell me I need to wear a helmet. Skating and running aren’t really different in my mind. Imagine you go jogging on RUclips and everyone tells you that you could get run over so you should never jog without a helmet! 😂 Anyway, I’m not mad that people make comments out of concern for my safety. Those are just my thoughts.
@@DeezSkates My friend it's your choice of course 🤗 u free to do whatever u want but the helmet is very important our Head brain control our body small hit u can be hurt pretty bad. Better Safe than Sorry 😁 I will do a video about how I wear my gears And u be surprised how much clouths protection I wear 👌
I very much agree with what you said about learning to not rely on protection, I felt somewhat awkward though of seeing you ride very close to a rolling train at the same time.. 😬
I've been an avid grappler for decades and, when I started biking seriously, I had a several crashes during downhills (some at speeds in excess of 50km/h). No serious injury thus far, all owing to (it is my personal belief, although it might just be pure luck) the instincts from grappling. When I recently started skating inlines, I used one of my older biking helmets and I purchased a rather B tier set of knee/elbow/hand protections. I ditched the knee/elbow pads after the first outing - with the added benefit that they do no longer keep me warm nor chafe me. As in biking, I kept the helmet and hand protections. I don't see any downside to wearing a helmet, especially in an urban environment and, from all the biking experience, I'd like to avoid asphalt rash on hands in particular. Come cooler weather, I'll probably swap the hand protections to some mtb full gloves and sneak an ultra-thin beanie under the helmet. I'll probably don the full protection equipment once comfortable enough to start skating more aggressively in a skate park.
I have trained myself that if I'm falling no matter how I always will use my rigt side to catch me up and I'm pretty long so that means that there will be more of my body that wil catch me, o also trained how to not damage my body while falling so that i also not will have a bleeding body
Got back into blading after a few years. My feet let me know after the fact which I'm sure is common/typical. The path I am using has areas that have been tar patched because of surface cracks. Which makes going over them more fun as it were. And yes the typical debris of tiny rocks or pebbles and such. Minor uphill presents its challenges and so does the wind.
Phenomenal and on-point advice for outdoor skating - thanks pal! Love your Seba Highlight 10's - I go those too. Do you ever find it annoying where your scratch guard pads scrape the ground from leaning into the turn?
I'm so excited to get to your level! Will take lots of time and more practice. San Francisco is proving to be a difficult place to learn - especially from ice to inline.
I just started skating outside after lots of time at the rink. Honestly it isn't that much fun for me rigtht now as I am just so tense, even with me being fully padded up. I figure if I keep at it, it will eventually become a lot of fun. It is definitely improving my skills a lot. Anyway nice video, very informative!
When I was a kid I use to ride my inline skates on the street all throughout my neighborhood with no problem at all. I didn't ride my skates for about 4 or 5 years and I took them out for the first time and was riding around in my house to make sure I was still good to go outside and then I road down my street and hit random small rocks every couple of feet and just kept tripping over and over again and eventually fell after the third or fourth one and now I have been terrified to try again. I do not know how I was doing it before. There is even a huge hill a street over that leads right to a pond that I would fly down as a kid and not have one thought of being scared and now I am terrified! haha
In order, how I became into skating; 1. I got my own. I didn't use them a lot, and they broke, never got new ones. 2. Diamond Jack. My favourite video on all of youtube, and the MC there uses skating. 3. Jet Set Radio. That's another rabbit hole, but tldr, it's skating, and it looks cool. That's how I got to this. I don't know if I'll become *that* into skating that I actually go out of my way to buy some, but they look really cool Also, that dance at the start was beautiful...

I'm lucky that I live in the Netherlands so when I'm going to skate I can use the (well kept) bicycle lane. I really think a smooth surface will help me learning how to skate and then I can move on the difficult roads. Even though a lot of streets an path ways are well kept this video is showing a lot of good techniques and tips, so I think after practice I won't be so afraid to skate on more difficult paths!
- Know how to stop quickly 1. Lean backward so that com shifts backward(the more you lean the faster you’ll fall) 2. Drop down 3. Do a very tight turn where skates are parallel to each other like when going straight - Look out for broken glass - Offroad type ground; most weight is on back foot while the forward foot is used to sense danger like change of grip for example and if that happens then you need to 1. Lift forward foot 2. Redirect rear foot. - Going off off or up onto a curb/steps; You need to learn how to drop multiple levels quickly, relaxing is very important here, and bending knees upon impact. YOU BEND TO NOT DAMAGE YOUR CARTILAGE AND BONES. - Manhole covers are death = avoid / dont turn - Weight shifting between feet and small hops are essential over rough terrain 1. Relaxation is important here 2. Rough terrain EATS your speed 3. Switching from concrete to grass means you need to switch to RUNNING since you have FORWARD MOMENTUM - Dont rely on kneepads, they could slide from position! Sit down while skating always

@@DeezSkates My friend it's your choice of course 🤗 u free to do whatever u want but the helmet is very important our Head brain control our body small hit u can be hurt pretty bad.
Better Safe than Sorry 😁
I will do a video about how I wear my gears And u be surprised how much clouths protection I wear 👌
One of your best videos
The way you spin is mesmerising
I very much agree with what you said about learning to not rely on protection, I felt somewhat awkward though of seeing you ride very close to a rolling train at the same time.. 😬
This is very useful thank you this video helped boost my confidence
I have to face my fears, maybe today its the day to go to the streets huh?
And did you?
you skate so well, hopefully in the future i'll be able to skate like that too!
Your videos inspire me. I'm recovering from a fall and can't wait to go back.
Happy healing, my friend. Take it easy and don’t do too much too soon. 😎
That footwork in the beginning was sick
I've been doing a lot of rink skating lately due to wet weather, both ice and roller and whilst the ice is fun, city skating is just far more fun.
Man.. I love to ice skate! Wishing so bad I could do it more often!
This was a really inspirational video and has caused me to subscribe! Thank you for sharing your skills and wisdom!
I have trained myself that if I'm falling no matter how I always will use my rigt side to catch me up and I'm pretty long so that means that there will be more of my body that wil catch me, o also trained how to not damage my body while falling so that i also not will have a bleeding body
Subscribed!!! Just ordered my blades. Haven't skated in years. Super Juiced!
So helpful and great filming off all diff types of surfaces!
This is a great topic...just got around to this video.
Hey Greg! Thanks for watching. Hope you and Gwen are doing well these days!
Very useful video, thank you!
And this nice song at the end :) Great video, thank man! :)
Fantastic skater and really well articulated.
Great! Thank you for taking the time to make this great video for beginners in Urban/City Skating
Great video. Nice skating glad to be back on skates. Got me some K2 Trio 100 LT. So smooth!
absolutely fantastic video. THis is perfect for me, I will use all of your tips for my transition to streets. Thank you.
If you have a solid ice skating background you will get there in no time!
@@DeezSkates played ice hockey in college - does not reflect in my rollerblading 😂
Have you rockered your Inline skates? You will find that they become more familiar like that.
great video, absolutely what I needed to hear!
Thank you very much you're so incredibly informative helps me in real time
I just started skating outside after lots of time at the rink.
I don't know if I'll become *that* into skating that I actually go out of my way to buy some, but they look really cool
Also, that dance at the start was beautiful...
Hi! I just wanted to say thank you for sharing this. I just watched Diamond Jack after reading your comment and it was really cool!
That's great 😄
Lol this is the funniest video I've seen yet.
I started with a pair of k2s in 95 i was like 11 and was killing it holding onto cars jumping 30ft gaps did my 1st misty flip at 12 i wish every cellphone had cameras i would have been in the xgames
Thank you for making this video @Deez Skates
Also, the white stripes on cross walks are as slick as ice when wet.
Great video David! Makes me wanna get into skating 👍
Thanks Ale! It's never too late to get started on that, my friend!
Love Planet Roller Skate but you’ve given them a run for their money! Been waiting for them to put out a proper street skate vid for ages (still waiting!) This was nicely done 👌🏻😎👏🏻 Thanks!
Great vid. You’ve made me want to try quads. Thank you so much.
Such a nice place to skate.
This was extremely helpful. Thank you.
Super useful!
Adorei o video tem novas maschet ja da pra apresender so olhando
com vontade de patinar iremos aprender sim
Awesome audio narration! So styled, almost like rap 😎😅👌👌👌
Watching this from the Phillipines, city skating here in metro Manila would be nuts!
I'm gonna look up your city now to see what's it's like!
@@DeezSkates just visiting here from Atl Ga US, missing my skates😊
You're very talented to be able to go from inline to quad. I've heard it's very difficult
- Know how to stop quickly
1. Lean backward so that com shifts backward(the more you lean the faster you’ll fall)
2. Drop down
3. Do a very tight turn where skates are parallel to each other like when going straight
- Look out for broken glass
- Offroad type ground;
most weight is on back foot while the forward foot is used to sense
danger like change of grip for example and if that happens then you need to
1. Lift forward foot 2. Redirect rear foot.
- Going off off or up onto a curb/steps;
You need to learn how to drop multiple levels quickly, relaxing is very important here,
and bending knees upon impact. YOU BEND TO NOT DAMAGE YOUR CARTILAGE AND BONES.
- Manhole covers are death = avoid / dont turn
- Weight shifting between feet and small hops are essential over rough terrain
1. Relaxation is important here
2. Rough terrain EATS your speed
3. Switching from concrete to grass means you need to switch to RUNNING since you have FORWARD MOMENTUM
- Dont rely on kneepads, they could slide from position!
Sit down while skating always
