Documenting my progress through almost 2 months of skating Inline with no prior experience. If you have any tips comment down below.
This sport has helped me feel a lot more like myself at a time when I sorta felt numb. With gyms closed in lockdown it gives myself something challenging to work on, look forward to, and enjoy.
Despite the countless falls, and being sore EVERYWHERE, I'm so happy I took the leap and ordered my blades. It's something I always wanted to try but was scared to because it looked hard, I thought I was too old, and its looked down on by the skateboarding community. But the more you get into it, the more you realise learning to do anything deserves respect.
From here I am going to gear my training in the gym towards becoming a better, stronger, faster skater which I'm sure will also decrease injuries.
I still suck but the main thing is I'm a mile ahead from where I started and that's all that counts!
A wise man once said:
"Sucking at something, is the first step towards being sorta good at something"

your son holding your hand and cheering you on bro 😢😢 wholesome content
very impressed with how quickly you progress! I wouldn't call you a beginner when u started crossing over and jumping. You basically did everything I learnt in a span of 5 years.
I guess being obsessed for a period pays off😂
no way your that bad after 5 years

@@WICK_3D why would that matter

The best thing about this video is that you spend real good quality time with your kid.
As a beginner skater myself, I would NEVER try all the stuff you are doing. Brute force is never a way I would want to learn anything. However, it's your body, so you get to smash it up all you like. ;-)
aye bro falling is a big part of skating for sure so the more you fall the more you learn. so keep sending it
I do agree on the helmet and I would add wrist guards on these types of skates, these go proper fast and the floor is no fun for the palms outside of skateparks.
I'm 36 and have only roller skated on quad skates, but as a 90's kid, been wanting to try rollerblading since I was 7 years old.
Ordered my first pair of inline skates last night after watching this video, and I'm super excited to try it out!
@@food3342 great, actually! I'm able to zip around the indoor rink in my rollerblades now, and I'll be joining a local urban skating group soon to meet other skaters as well as get more confident skating outdoors 😊
@@ThePurpleMenace I just bought my first pair of used inline skates. I've only skated in quads once a few months ago, never owned a pair of quads just borrowed. Kinda just jumped to inline. I kinda got it down when it comes to getting some movement, just need to learn how to stop efficiently. Wish me luck!
@@CrossfireVALthat can be the scary part. I'm a moderately big guy and I worry about either running people over or falling and hitting the ground like a sack of bricks and strawberry jelly.
@@bodinian Same here! I'm afraid of just rollerblading right into someone/something
I am 37 and just started rollerblading :)
I feel your pain. But also the joy. Started at 49 years old. Its fun🥰
I haven’t skated much in the last few months, I definitely have to get back into it
never too old to skate :-D
i started a year ago, also after 40 :-]
i wish a lot of joy for every skater, pozdro

Your evolution in such a short time is amazing! Very inspiring, I'm about to start inline skating, after over 15 years since last time I practiced properly!
Thank you and good luck!!
Yea mate, same here! 18 years since I've worn them, got a new pair the other day and put them on. Instant memories 😄 Good luck! 🤙🏼
me too! though its been about 12 years since I last did it.
Hey! How's it going 1 year later? :)
Same!
We need a part 2!
Im from sydney and i started urban skating about july last year. Since then ive moved to focusing on aggressive skating as i find that the most fun!
I get scared I’ll bust my acl in my knee again
protectors my dude@@erichopham
Honestly, most of the work is daring to do it! And you seem you’ve got that down. Jumping, powersliding, the fact you’re doing that so soon not afraid you’ll fall is amazing! I’ve been skating for a while and I still haven’t really figured out my powerslides, I only feel comfortable on super flat surfices and mild speed, I’m still scared. The biggest battle is 100% fear here.
You're definitely not afraid to fall, that's impressive ! I'm always slow cause I try to limit the falling part, even tho I have the protections on. But I'm pretty sure you progress faster when you just go, don't think twice and fall sometimes and try again like you do, that's really cool
Sometimes it helps to just get low and ride and sort of just fall over on purpose, it really helps you get a feel for what falling is like and you will soon stop fearing it! Of course it’s still scary to fall but you learn how to catch yourself instinctively without falling after a while
Definitely. My words! That's awesome that you're not afraid to fall. I'm also a beginner and would never dare to go all in like you.
Thank you for your video, Dude! It has accelerated my learning, providing both motivation and enthusiasm. As a result, I've been engaged in inline skating for two weeks now. 😊
Funny enough I also found myself starting very recently with inline skating, and only have a few months on you regrading my blading career.
1. I'd look at channels like "Flow skate." I have learnt a lot of important knowledge about things from his channel that go beyond just learning slides like T slides and parallel slides.
2. When learning I seriously suggest at times you learn backwards, understanding your inside and outside edges and how you can better use them are going to bring your skating to a whole different level (by which i mean sometimes just start with a beginner tutorial and work your way up).
3. Last I seriously suggest you look into different skating arts like slalom and aggressive. There are so many skills you can use from both areas that will overall make your skills as a power skater much more effective.
4. Find people with more experience, a general tip but a very important one. I have a hockey friend who makes me look like a new born baby learning to walk, but he still teaches me and gives me goals to reach. So if you can find some people in your area who would like to skate with you or have skated previously.
and don't give up especially during these next couple cold months, you have activities to practice like one foot front, backwards, slalom techniques. The whole shabang you'll love it.
Your progress is amazing! I've been rollerblading for 2 months now and I still can't skate backwards. For me it's hard to flip from facing forward to facing backward; I always fall trying it. You should be proud of yourself :) EDIT: for me 18:18
Thanks legend
Loved the video man! Thanks for sharing your journey!
Thanks for sharing the experience man really helpful! and i love how you found a skill to spend time with your family as well! Good job with all the shooting!
Seeing his dedication makes me fall in love with this guy. Keep up . Go on.
Loved this video, so interesting to see.
I don't remember my own time learning how to skate, but I do remember that I also had a kind of roundabout nearby where I grew up and I did crossovers for hours on end till it became second nature.
You just give me a boost to start new Hobby, your Vlog inspire me a lot, great video, great progress, and excellent vlog you have there with your kids. Thanks.
That was awesome to watch! Love the commentary .
The parelell slides at the end were actually pretty damn good! You will be a great skater in no time
Thanks dudeee
You inspired me! Today I'm going out with my skates (:
Cheers from Argentina to you and your family!
Very inspiring. Thank you for sharing! 👍
Loved to see your journey and progress 💪🏻✨
Very cool to see your progress! I'm looking to start this year, at age 26. Last time I've been on anything with wheels was in my teens, so i'm pretty excited.
Hahah I love how you take risks right from the start. When I first started I avoided falling at all cost so I avoided doing anything "extra" lol
As someone who grew up playing inline hockey and skating at the local skatepark on weekends as a kid this has really made me want to get back into the sport for some fun, great improvements in such a short amount of time dude
Great video! Thanks for sharing! 😊
Wow! When you said that you started learning from nothing makes me don’t want to believe at all. You progressed quickly in a short span. I’m impressed. You are a natural
I ordered a pair of skates, waiting for them to arrive. Until them I am vicariously living the unboxing/try them on experience through this video! You're about as excited as I am. Side note, you're son is chill af and it's cool to see a kid hanging with his dad (brother?) with no ipad in hand, just chilling, helping you out, and having fun with the experience too. Wholesome as hell
Hi - from NSW au. I just got my 125mm tri skate. It's really hard to balance and learn for me but this video is somewhat helpful. I'm looking forward to more of your videos.
This was a true inspiration.. thanks for the video
That was so wholesome and relaxing to watch. But also I am hyped now
I've been doing inline skate almost 13 years and I'm impressed of your progress 🌟
I loved this one brother! Was such a cool progression to watch. You got better and better fast btw…
Thank you for vlogging this.
I wanna learn to skate and this was entertaining and structural to watch
Thanks for the motivation! 😁
I was surprised how brave you were to do a jump as a beginner, cause lemme tell you jumps are the scariest thing to attempt😭💀 and you did it in your appartement(tight space) 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This is really amazing video. I just started learning and i got really good ideas to shoot my videos about learning and falls. Thank you for this videos.
My guy! You got this!
You progressed a LOT faster than I have. Granted, you seem to spend a lot of time on dedicated skills practice and seem to have no fear of falling down. I tend to just hit the walking paths near my house and skate for many miles w/out working on anything in particular... just having fun while getting exercise. I rarely fall as I am not pushing my abilities like you are. Very impressive!
can feel you passion, and very good progress in just 1.5 month!
Thanks!
It's such a pleasure to watch someone commit all of their time on a hobby & keep getting better & better. Very inspiring & I may have to get some inline skates but I would probably cover myself in protective gear lol 🤣 Lovely little boy too 😊
ur channel is very underated keep up the work!
Not gonna lie this man deserves many more subs i genuinely enjoyed this whole video and it made my day thank you sir.
Please don’t stop the skate videos 🙏🏽
Kudos to you. Very good progress in a month!
Damn bro you learned so quick, I’m inspired. I’m gonna be starting soon
this video inspired me to buy my own skates, just ordered and am very excited
My first pair of skates comes in a couple of days! Very excited to learn. Thank you for this video!
Good luck! Make controlled increments of committing to certain movements!
MAN EVEN THE WAY YOU FALL IS BEAUTIFUL LOL 🤣
You did really well. I wanna be a begginer like you when my skates arrive.
Thanks for the video!
Hi Eric, I really enjoyed your video. I have such admiration for adults who take up skating. It is much more of an intuitive experience when learning as a child. Also there is a lack of fear, or maybe a lack of experience as far as consequence goes. I have been skating since I was five and am now fourty eight. Skating has brought me so much joy over the years and has helped me form some of my best friendships. I hope you have continued your skate journey and that your family join you. Hopefully you have by now discovered your local skate community and have maybe joined in with the town tours that are organised by such groups. These are great fun and are a great way to find new spots and make new skate friends and connections. I wish you many happy years of skating!
Hey! I’m glad you enjoyed, I didn’t skate much after this video but in the last few months I have been skating again and it’s like I never stopped. Unfortunately I haven’t done any group skates yet but I’m going to look into it! I’ve done some long skates 30kms+ and had so much fun on them, Skating is such a good way of getting the heart rate up also.
Very fast progression congratulations 👏👏👏👏
Was really cool to watch this 🤗
Just watched this for the first time! About to go find out if you ever ended up going pro!
I think you're doing pretty good so far!
Confidence goes all long way!! You could see it right away and you clearly have great balance... Nice work.
Thanks! Yeah I’ve fallen a lot doing other things in the past so the fear wasn’t as big a hurdle to get over initially.
Awesome video!
Hey bro your vid gave me alot of inspiration to learn more about inline skating thanks for that
I feel honoured bro
This great, so happy to see more people getting into inline skating, looks like you live just near me in Preston! You literally skated past my house haha. Hopefully I see you out skating one day, it would be good to meet a.local skater. Hope you’re still going strong and progressing
Hey man,
Pretty motivating video you've made! I'm 33 and bought my first pair of skates. Never used it before but played ice hockey for 10+ years. My issue is when I lace my skates as much as possible I feel pain outside of my feet and when I have them laced more loosely, they are comfortable but the wheels go right and left and it's hard to maneuver and do basic stuff because of the lack of balance. I guess I will have to use thicker sock and lace not too hard.
Maaaaaate, that's epic!! I have just bought a set of inline skates in December from Bladeworx, also Melbourne!! Thanks for posting, I was a bit worried before and seeing your vid I kinda realised that all the frustration I'm having is pretty normal. Cheers AL
Keep at it! Too bad summer is done :(
@@erichopham Yeah, in a way I'm glad Summer is gone in this regard. At least I won't be sweating my brains out in fear as much haha.
Looking forward to the update!
Great progress! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Josh! Im currently editing a 1 year progression video

Very impressed!! How you learned so fast? I have a pair of those inline skates, but I still can't learn to brake! Congrats!! It look amazing!
there just something about skating man. nice video
This guy is a quick learner. I started rollerblading again from watching Stuttering Skater and Polly Skates videos. There are a lot of great skaters on RUclips.
Sick video mate. You've inspired me to invest in a similar pair and try a new sport.
Feeling quite nervous but excited, thanks for the inspiration and the effort that went into making this video!
My man! Let’s get it!!
super cool. gut gemacht!
The twisters are amazing skates ❤
Dude nice video, I have the same skates as you, nice this kind of videos uploading, hope skating will be more popular
U inspired us ....🙌🙌🙌
Little boy soo kewt dancing! 😂😂❤
Well done.👍👍
Man, I love your initiative and perseverance! I got my first Rollerblade in Munich back in 1998 and skated along the streets of Munich right away, with zero hours on, which in hindsight was a really bad idea. I definitely looked way more spastic than your sprint up the slope, which really, didn't look spastic at all. My Rollerblades are now 24 years old, and it's my birthday today, and I was thinking of getting a new pair as a gift for myself this weekend. I don't skate well, but hope to bump (not literally!) into you somewhere in Melbourne (which is where I am based at now) someday, if you're still skating these days. My cousin and wife are looking to start inline-skating too, and I hope we will work out great as a team...lol!
I didn’t skate throughout summer but the last few weeks have been heaps, I have fallen in love with it!!
dope vid and progression mate good job , mine come in in about a week 😄
You are nice bro! Congrats
still a great video, I love how aggressive you were in teaching yourself. Sadly I still am afraid to fall
You got this! Learning how to fall is definitely a main part of skating
Tenacious! I bet as of today you're a pro!
So cool!
honestly you are progressing super fast. i am also learning this and i am not progressing half as fast as you do.
Wow great progress
That’s a great tip - lead w your shoulders and your feet will go ‘
Thanks!
Skating is a hard sport but everyday is a new chapter of f your experience keep going and perceiver
this inspire me to wanna try
Nice work mate. Just got a pair of rollerblade Marco80's. Thanks for the inspo.
Thanks I appreciate the love!
Super nostalgic, I hope you are still riding to this day. Really enjoyed the way you divided rollerblading into different sub-skills and tackled them individually until you got better at them, even if it meant you falling over and over. I wonder if this is how you normally tackle new challenges in your life as well? Anyways, hope there's more videos from you in the future, really enjoyed this one.
Hey! So glad you enjoyed, I’m in the process of filming a “my first month on aggressive inline skates” video. Still skating almost every day :))
@@erichopham Nice! Looking forward to it. Maybe the one after that one will be about you teaching the little one ? Lol

Awesome vid my dude, i just ordered my first ever pair of skates this morning, i'll be going through all this very soon!
Make a vid!!
you did so good when you first put them on, I coudn't even stand when I did XD getting a little bit better everyday, I also fall a lot everyday, but it's part of the process, I use protection, so I'm not afraid at all
i cant believe you started off not using the brake at all . more power to you man
Good job. Keep it up and maybe if you get super comfortable you can try aggressive skating. Grinds and airs are so fun.
i see myself , just you getting better much quicker
lovely, thank you
Yo nice video bro I'm doin from 4 months but recently I tried ice skating and now I forgot to Rollerblade ones let's hope I learn them again soon 😅
ERIC!!! Im glad i watch your video last night 🤙🤙 Years ago when i was younger (12-16) i skated back then but didnt learn any of the basic technique (fron-back leg turning, crossover, t-brake etc). Now that im 28, i started skating again like 3 days ago. On day 1 i was just devastated.
Day 2 didn't prove to be any better as i went home without even being to turn properly. On day 3 i decided to take a break and it was thrn i stumbled upon your video! Your calm approach to your story telling really helped me to calm down and think and your "had a breakthrough. To turn you've to lean your shoulder to the right" really help!!
Today is day 4 and I'm having so much fun doing crossover at the carpark thanks to the motivation from your video 😂 cheers bruhhh
So happy my journey is helping you too!
Heyya buddy! I suddenly remembered how much i wanted to skate when I was young, but couldn't do so. I'm 27 now, and seriously considering getting my first pair! How are you doing? How has your progress been like? :D
Didn't expect to get a reply haha. But the last time i visited a beach park, I had to bail after 10 mins of skating. The blistering was too much for me to bear. After talking to some of the people that skates, they said it's mostly the socks. My advice would be to find friends to skate with and get really think socks. So happen that I am skating on this Sunday after not skating for half a year. Can't wait!

I started about a week agio, and it's funny to see how we've come up with the same thing and little exercises. I am good on outdoor quads and figured I'd have an edge but blades are a different animal.
cuttest thing the little man saying "siiick" to the skates 😂 gotta give him one, bro!
your little boy telling you to get pads is so adorable!!!
I love him :)
Aye aye where you go get working man grow
"hold my hand" too cute, little fella wants to make sure you don't fall :)
Man you are progressing so fast. I'm really experienced at least in terms of time (20years) and I still don't manage to do a powerstop and have to say I also have a heel break. Heal break mostly in terms of wheel drain especially because I'm living on a hill.
I can plow break, t-break well and make a powerslide or fake one and spin break.
But the wheel drain coming from t-stops made me use the heel break again.
(im using 110mm wheels)
Yeah I definitely didn’t realise how much the wheels cost before I ever got into rollerblading! But I have no choice because I only got in to it for the slides I saw on RUclips!
Maybe you should set some time aside to drill some slides ;)
@@erichopham I always do, but there are so many different things to learn and to improve and only limited time to practise 😅
I also want to learn to drive down some stairs. Preferred backwards because in driving forwards my heel break would be in my way. And to do so I need to improve my backwards driving. I can easily swap inbetween driving backwards and forwards driving can also drive fast and long backwards but still lack of the agility and flawless balance like driving forwards .... So there is more homework to do before moving to the next stop and so on and on....
Few days ago I had finally a breakthrough in learning how to move your body to form a powerstops.
Now I only need to learn how to control it. And I would say at least having one of these stops and slides is already a good basis
I'm 40 just started skating practicing 30 minutes a day, LEARNED FROM YOUR VIDEO PRACTICING 3 HOURS DAILY IS THE KEY 🗝️
