  • Here's the first proper day on the actual Reticent pitches. I climb pitch 1-3 off Lay Lady Ledge in this video, including an A4 pitch that I take a small daisy fall on.

    Only 1.1K views. The world does not appreciate how badass hard aid climbing is. Cheers brother! Love that you're sharing this experience. Hope more people get to see this.

    Thanks for the video. Impressive effort. Absolutely love that side of the Captain. Nothing shrivels my sack like stopping out of the aiders into free climbing.

    Thank you so much for your efforts to document your badass adventures and being so kind as to let us have the privileged opportunity to get a glimpse of this amazing terrain on a legendary route. It quite literally would not be possible for me to have the ability to go see this route myself (under my own abilities, at least not currently). So thanks again for a seldom seen view of incredible sections of El Cap. Most of all I appreciate the excitement and stoke that infectiously rubs off on me from watching videos such as this.
    It was awesome to see you put the largest size Punkey’s to great and effective use. I actually messaged the owner an article that reported your solo which featured a photo where one could clearly be seen (it had been left in place in a stretch of mainly hooks only for pro across a traversing section). I think it made his day getting to see that!
    Also quickly some nerdy gear questions if you don’t mind, what are those (compact) looking oval carabiners that you use for each of your ladders? Would they be taller/shorter or equal to the DMM Perfect O?
    Lastly, which beaks are your favorite (or maybe top 2 or 3, if different ones are appreciated for different reasons)?
    Thank you in advance.

      @@brianrodman1033 Cheers, I’m glad people are enjoying them! The ovals are DMM perfect Os, they’ve just been battered by quite a few walls! As for beaks, I’ve not used that many different ones, but I like the Moses ones the most since they’re much easier to clean than the BD ones. That being said, they are a bit heavier, so I normally take a pretty even mix of Moses, BD and peckershop ones. The peckershop beaks are pretty cheap, lightweight and come in some innovative sizes, but the blade of the beak doesn’t really taper enough for my liking in marginal placements, though I’m going to try filing them down and see if they work better.

    Yo love your work. I live in Oakhurst and also like aid climbing. What devices do you use for your lead solo belay?

    • @olivertippett4811
      @olivertippett4811  Месяц назад +2

      I use an inverted GriGri 1 with a microtraxion for the cache loop and then have a backup knot below that. It's alright for aid climbing but pretty janky if I have to free climb anything.

    Great videos. If I may ask: what is your system for rappelling? At the 4:20 mark it shows you rappelling with a Grigri backed up by another device which I can't identify. What is that second device? Thanks.

      That’s just the leading setup but without the roll n lock taken off yet since I hadn’t finished the pitch. I don’t use a backup for my grigri when I abseil.

      Please understand how incredibly fortunate we are to have the chance to enjoy so much content of all kinds (essentially for free, or at least very cheap even if we pay for a Premium Membership…which to me is worth every penny). It always makes me laugh when people feel the need to complain in the face of being so fortunate to have access to all of the incredible footage on RUclips because they think the uploader the video ought to cater to their preferences and change something to suit them, a random viewer…usually a complete stranger. Might I humbly suggest using the volume control…I would go so far as to hypothesize that it is there for such situations.
      What a spoiled, ungrateful lot we can at times be, as a whole. It rarely ceases to astonish me. Could simply be that when I first fell head over heels in love with climbing the only rare chance at awesome climbing footage was from a professionally produced video, such as one of the Masters of Stone series. Would have done a backflip to have had the kind of access at our fingertips back then that we do today (even if every video was overdubbed loudly with the worst genres of music known to man, because even at 13 I had the ability to utilize the volume button if needed).
      Far too lengthy rant over… probably should have recorded myself speaking this response so as to extend the courtesy of everyone to be able to take advantage of the volume control and shut me up.
