    Why I love Dave Macleod.. “I’m wasted man”.. proceeds to climb a massively exposed, desperate 65m E10 7a (8b+) pitch.. the guy is nails.

    • @Bennici
      @Bennici 3 года назад +4

      There is a significant gap between the strongest I have ever felt in my life, and the weakest that Dave has ever felt. At least by my estimation. The guy is so tough the rock sweats more than him.

      I love the terminology "nails". There's a problem at my local tiny climbing gym called that. It looks so simple and seems like it just needs very strong fingers but it's extremely balancey and technical

    You guys are so amazingly good at capturing the feeling. Got my chalkbag on my desk and everything. Just barely keeping myself from putting my harness on and looking like a complete idiot :-)

    Love how this is filmed! Excellent angles of the entire pitch - you really feel like you're climbing up with him.

    Long past time that Dave MacCleod arrives in The Valley (Yosemite) and tick off a few El Cap Big Wall’s. Something tells me he’d kick some ass

    Wow Dave! Nicely done mate! I got emotional watch you do the crux pitch. Focusing all your energy into those moves like that, on hideous holds... incredible!! Amazing work on capturing this epic climb! You guys make my favorite short films!

    Dude what the hell? I don’t ever recall experiencing this, but when I saw that ultra runout top-out (yes there was 1 cam placed in there after all, but HOLY COW!), suddenly tears bursted from my eyes... That’s some potent emotion contained in this little documentary. Well done yous!

    Amazing climb, awesome effort. Still I don't find a reason not to wear helmet in such and exposed route. Any bad fall and you can crack your skull...

  • @johns3106

    Anybody else find this level of expertise WAY more impressive than somebody clipping bolts on a 60' climb that is technically "harder"?

    • @adandap
      @adandap 4 года назад +12

      My instinct is to say "yes" but I think a fairer answer is that they are both impressive achievements that require different skills and mindsets. That said, my palms sweated throughout this video and they don't when watching someone clip a bolt every 2m!

    Wait a minute - the flake which he says - if you pull on it, it would just fall off then becomes the belay station for the crux pitch? What?

      Stephen Needham it's a first ascent. not attempt. it's a red point.

    • @HotAches
      @HotAches  7 лет назад +5

      first attempt at the Red point. not first time on the route. standard practice on hard trad route to work the moves first, then go for clean red point. sorry if the film is not clear, it's an extract of a feature length piece.

    • @eyescreamcake
      @eyescreamcake 4 года назад

      he clearly had the moves memorized

    I've seen literally thousands of climbs on video and film (and many more IRL), but this strikes me as teh most desperate in terms of someone right at their limit.
    Exactly as I was wondering "Does Dave ever cuss?...9:40 " :)
