    It’s actually a very well written and comprehensive book ruclips.net/user/postUgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 . I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.

    4:55 Excellent work for sure. I also had trouble figuring how the door lined up with the siding until I enlarged the video to see how you lined up the reveal. It would have been helpful to explain that sometime during the process. I had to watch the video about 5 times before I understood it. The door you designed is by far the best Ive seen.

    What is the purpose of the
    1 1/4” overhand on the face panel of the door? Seems to me that with only a 1/2” reveal around the opening that this would cause the front door panel to overlap the shed siding making it protrude out from the shed wall.

      @@icreatablestv Not accurate. You mentioned the backing was 1" smaller than the door to create a 1/2" reveal, but then state to put a cover 1 1/4" overhang. This wouldn't fit in the door opening. I think you want a 1 1/2" reveal on the backing to allow for a 1/4" reveal of the cover.
      Everything else is great! I used this series to help me build a shed. Thanks for all of the information.

    If the outer panel is supposed to overlap the shed, like a cabinet, and then there is trim on top of that panel, how does the door lay flush with the trim on the shed?

    • @leovargas4884
      @leovargas4884 4 года назад

      The back part of the door, 2x4s pretend the plywood doesn’t exist, lines up with the framing of the shed. The panel, screwed onto the opposite side of the door, lays on the 1 inch reveal of the original framing. Trim is flush with the edge of panels. Thus your door is flush with trim on shed.

    Not sure I get the math of having back panel 1” less than opening, yet front panel is to have 1-1/4” overhang all 4 sides. Is this to say that the front panel will be larger than the door opening on all 4 sides? I first understood this to be that there would be a 1/4 gap or reveal around the door once installed, but the math isn’t adding up as I’m ready to place front panel on back/rail assembly which will have 1/2” reveal all 4 sides. If that’s right I’m not understanding the rest. Thanks.

    • @Personalized_Workshop
      @Personalized_Workshop 7 месяцев назад

      After watching hours of videos, I understand. I believe the extra 1-1/4” creates door stops. I was hoping to use the panels I cut out of rough opening with router. I’ll either need 2 more sheets of siding or get creative with door trim. 🤞🏼

    This door looks promising that it might actually keep out mice. Supposedly mice can squeeze through a gap as small as 1/4". Your door appears to have overlaps that eliminate any large gaps for mice to squeeze through.

    So I've followed most of these videos as the basis for my kids clubhouse (I used the icreatables lean to shed vids). They have been very helpful. The door here somehow makes me have fuzzy math. The back panel and frame are to fit the door opening and the front panel overlays the outside? How far off did you have to put the trim so the door sits flush? Is the offset of the trim the 1.25" of the front panel?

    I saw the question about how much the cost was to make your shed was $1,500.00. I was wondering if you purchased your wood at a big box store ie; Lowes or Home Depot?

    • @icreatablestv
      @icreatablestv  10 лет назад

      Yes the pricing was from a big box store. When buying such a large purchase the contractor sales will often negotiate on the price. Lumber yards are typically close to or less than any negotiated price from a Big Box store. You should always get pricing from multiple locations as pricing varies depending on the price the store bought their lumber for, time of year and region of the country.

    how do you ensure that your framing for the door is square? I noticed in the video you don't use a level to check for plumb. Is this simply corrected when you measure for the 1 1/4" reveal? and the siding goes on.

    • @icreatablestv
      @icreatablestv  10 лет назад

      You should check for square by measuring the diagonals and making sure they are the same. It is good to double check both the diagonals and the opening for level and plumb before setting the door. Really it should be checked before installing the siding because it is very hard to change the opening after the siding is on and the roof is framed.

    I'm a bit confused here. If the back panel is 1 inch smaller than the door opening, then how can the front panel possibly have a 1 1/4 inch overhang compared to the back panel? That would mean the front panel is 2 inches larger than the door opening.
    Seems to me the front panel should have a 1/2" overhang in order to fit into the door opening.
    Doesn't make any sense. What am I missing?

    • @icreatablestv
      @icreatablestv  9 лет назад +2

      Robert JOhansen The front is larger so it overlaps the door way opening. It is like a cabinet door, sitting on the outside of the shed. This keeps the weather out and makes it so you do not need to install a door stop around the interior of the door frame.

    • @viktordaae5184
      @viktordaae5184 9 лет назад

      iCreatables It's obvious that the overhang is to overlap the door opening, but you ignored the most important part of the question. In the video you say to make the back panel one inch smaller than the front panel. This would make the overhang 1/2 inch all around. Then when assembling the front panel you say to measure a 1-1/4 inch overhang. So which is it, 1/2 inch or 1-1/4 inch? Do you cut the back panel 1 inch smaller or 2-1/2 inches smaller?

    • @icreatablestv
      @icreatablestv  9 лет назад

      Viktor Daae The back panel is one inch smaller than the doorway opening. This gives 1/2" clearance around the door. Sorry for the confusion.

    • @The-Bankster
      @The-Bankster 9 лет назад +2

      The correct answer is the front panel has a 1/2" overhang in order to fit into the door opening, not a 1 1/4" overhang as the video explains.
      Thank you very much for posting this. I built this door, and it is very sturdy and solid. Wonderful fit! Thanks!

    • @icreatablestv
      @icreatablestv  9 лет назад

      Dan Manojlovic The roof overhang should be at least an inch so water drips, or tries to drip, away from the wall. The idea is to keep water from running down the wall. But it can run down the wall if you dont mind streaks it leaves over time and the wall surface is water tight enough to keep water out of the shed.

      @MotoAtheist 3 года назад +1

      It adds up fine... say the actual door will be 24", your framed opening is 25" which ends up a 1/2" reveal on the inside. For the outside panel, the trim is set back an 1" on both sides so the opening between the trim is 27". Putting 1.25" on both sides of the door makes it 2.5"+24" for a total of 26.5" giving you 1/2" left or 1/4" each side.

      I am not in the construction industry nor am I a carpenter, I wanted a good guide to help with small projects such as small sheds and some remodeling around the house. So there’s a magic which is Shed Plan [ visit here *WoodBlueprints. Com* ]. This Shed Plan covers all my instructions from top to bottom in a step by step manner.
