I sold it and the guitar a few years later and always regretted it, but my wild oats were calling and rational decisions werent my strong suit. Twenty years later i moved to Minnesota and had a hobby farm, 40 acres and no neighbors. I converted one of the buildings into a studio, bought another super reverb, had a Gibson gold top, Fender strat and i tell you what, i had many nights and days of pure heaven jamming away. People would ask why do you play that loud and i'd say cuz it wont go any louder. So when i would get done jamming, i would come out and i would hear a big herd of cows bunched up at the closest spot they could get to the studio all looking at me and mooing very loudly, they loved my guitar playing and it was a real satisfying experience. That super reverb tho, when you are really getting down that amp would seem like it got another 30 or 40 watts from somewhere and it would take off with a tone that always had me goosebumped to the max! In my humble opinion, there is no other amp for me, thanks for reading this, i feel better now.

He let me take gear home. And for a few days i had a super reverb... balls out loud and proud. And this one you got matt is a beast
Ohh yesssssss. THATS the sound. I loved what you came up with during the first strat jam. Made me lay back and close my eyes. Beautiful stuff man. If I found one of these and it sounded like that, I would feel like I had FINALLY found it!!! Congrats for scoring that beauty!!!
Sounds great on the phone. I’m jealous and I’m 69. When I was 20-21 years old I worked 3rd shift at Caterpillar and would buy and trade used guitars and amps and buy a ton of records. You can’t believe what I had then sold. But hey, it was a blast. Anyway, you sound good and so does the amp and guitar. One thing, play it louder!
Giving away my age, but my cousin bought one of these drip edge Super Reverbs with the JBLs new back in ‘68. It was LOUD, and weighed a ton. He ,in turn, gave me his old amp, a tweed Gibson GA-20 with a Jenson. Call it a win/win situation.
I'd love to see a decibel meter in the room with Matt. I know it's loud because he's talked about how loud he plays. But just how loud is what I'd like to know. The super reverb seems outstanding and that classic spring reverb is truly amazing. Leo got it right!!!
To get that amp fitted with JBLs breaking up with a Strat I assume you have to be around 6 or 7 with the volume knob. That IS loud! But then again it sounds unbelievably sweet. Awesome tones!
1983, My gig rig was a 78 Tele, 77 hardtail Strat and a 71 Super with JBLs. Like a dumb ass I sold or traded them off eventually seeking a 90s modern tone. Now in 2023 it's the tone I want back but haven't been able to recreate it on an old cripple man budget. No lotto in Alabama either so I'm just F'ed. Lololol.
Not only do you have some seriously special gear, you're a really great player. I'm sure it took a lot of work to get to where you are and I'm glad that so much has come together for you. It was great listening to you play, good luck with the album.

This is pure magic. Beautiful guitar playing on the wonderful sounding Strat and what a superior sound that comes from the Fender Super reverb. This combination is unbeatable. Yes, magic it is ...
I just traded my 2020 Gibson Les Paul Standard 50's straight across for a well loved 1967 Super Reverb. Fresh out of the shop after getting some love and we're mighty happy over here. There are endless Les Pauls but only a finite amount of real 1967 Super Reverb amps. It was a no brainer.
A big part of the Super Reverb sound is the 4 x 10's in that particular cabinet. I recently bought a 1969 Bandmaster Reverb head and built a 4 x 10 cabinet the same size as a super reverb and installed four Weber 125A10 alinco speakers and I get pretty much the same sound as my 1969 Super Reverb with the CTS alnico's. Those 2 amps have virtually the same circuit other than the output transformer (2 ohms on the SR, 4 ohms on the BMR).
I’ve been a fan of super reverb’s since the mid-60s when I first heard one. I owned a 67 for many years but sold it sadly after I bought my Vibro king. I’ve always wanted a silver face SR with the JBL’s and your video has reminded me why..Great playing as usual Matthew!
I played a 67 SR with CTS alnico spkrs for many yrs. I did not know a dang thing about taking care of it and it just kept playing for yrs without overhaul. Amazing amps and certainly a mainstay of top touring musicians in the US. It remains an undeniable truth that the best stuff always finds it's way back into relevance or, in other words, the cream rises to the top
Always been my favourite amplifier tone … from my first Twin Reverb 40 years ago to the 1965 Deluxe Reverb and 1966 Pro Reverb I use today …. Fender made the most musical amplifiers - and you’ve got a beautiful ’keeper’ with that Super Reverb Matt … superb playing as always👍
I bought my first and only Super Reverb without Jbl s , in the late 80s from Maxine's House of Music in Savannah , Tennessee. I played many gigs and several Pool parties with this as it was the SRV days and blues players were using the older original equipment to produce pure fender tone ...and it worked !!! Privileged to see SRV , Johnny Winter, Eric Gales, etc , all in Memphis...best days of my life...as a musician
Your Strat reminds me of Kenny Wayne Shepherd's Strat that looks like that, complete with the paint worn away from heavy strumming above the pickguard 🙏❤️🎸 He actually has 2 that look that way: one is vintage and one is a custom shop creation made to use in place of the vintage sunburst Strat. That guitar was Fenders very first time using any sort of "thin skin" finish thats made to wear quicker than normal nitro so it's gets broken in quickly on the road. Pretty sure Fenders 'thin skin' finish they applied in bulk later on was based on this specific guitar.
Wowwww what a beautiful sounding amp. That’s crazy how great those speakers sound. The top end is clear, but not glassy. Lows are deep and not muddy. I hear a slightly more mid balanced sound too. It’s hard to put a finger on exactly what it is, but I’m happy for you for finding such a beaut. This amp A/B with the Bassman would be glorious
Something about those 10’’ speakers especially theJBL’s just sound sweeter to my ears than 12’’ inch speakers do. Thanks Mathew we can always count on you to bring something special when it comes to ear 🍭candy! Your playing really did show how special this amp is!
I also have always preferred a 4x10 set-up myself. Perfect punch down low but still sounds clear and crisp up top. I've got two Super's, a '65 blackface and a '74 silverface with the added channel gain knob (with the blackface versions the only way to get that power tube breakup is to crank it to ear bleeding levels so I actually wind up playing the 74 more often). I also have a '74 Bassman 10 combo w/ 4x10's which also sounds great- and can still be had at a bargain unlike the old Supers. Cheers P[>
I scored a 1968 "drip rail" Bandmaster, one of the last of the AB 763s. I got it because the owner brought it in for service, never came back and then died. The bill was $450, nobody wanted to pay me, so I claimed it. Nobody cared, and so I "inherited" it, and it's mine. All it took was tubes, caps, a few resistors, a new power cord, a good cleaning, and it's happy and healthy once again. I got a holy grail for $100 worth of parts and about 6 hours of labor, mostly cleaning and troubleshooting. It had been left out in a shed for 25 years, and it was really funky. I use it with a Tweed Peavy 4X10 cab, and it sounds like God shouting from the mountain top. The basic personality is sparkly mid scoop Fender clean, and any boost pedal on the normal channel will goose it into the Tweed zone.
Hi Matthew, I'm so jealous of your new Super! It sounds really great man. I have two questions. How do you mic it and do you do anything to the tracks in post (split into stereo, add a touch of reverb etc...), and do you think you could do a comparison of this amp to your other Super Reverbs back to back? I'm really interested to see what they sound like compared to one another. Just to really hear the difference from the speakers. Great playing too by the way! Cheers, Jimmy
Definitive! The Strat's bridge pu'p is as good as I've ever heard. Really soulful changes through the entire demo...as it should be! Incredibly musical amp!!
Bro took me back 50 years...my big brother had a Fender "Super Six"... the tone (strat or sg) literally melted the day-glow murals he painted off the walls! Ahhh...I can still smell the incense...✌️🎶😎
Dude, it is AMAZING to me how quickly your number of views jumps up. You should be proud of that. I think I can safely say as a collective "we", we dig your content. Keep up the good work.
Hey Matt. John from NYC. You purchased my cousin's Brownface Pro reverb. Long time buddy. Sounding great my friend. Love that amp. I still have my 68 Super that you inspired me to buy. Keep kicking ass man. Stay safe. PEACE
Matthew... you definitely have the means to get the best of that Fender/JBL magic. My ‘68 Princeton Reverb came with the D110F. Tone that has that magic ring to it. Nice!
I saw The Clientele play in NYC a few years back and he used one of these..(not sure on the speaker type).. BFSR + tele, fingerpicked psych-pop w/ jazz influences... incredible, holographic, chiming, three-dimensional tone... I've never heard a Fender sound so good anywhere. "Strange Geometry" is an excellent LP for people who like this kind of vintage guitar tone. ALSO YOUR PLAYING IS SICK!!!
The less shirt buttons buttoned, the better the tone-I must try this, thanks Matthew

Privileged to see SRV , Johnny Winter, Eric Gales, etc , all in Memphis...best days of my life...as a musician
Do a shootout video with all 3 of your super reverbs. Would be cool to compare the different sounds.
Did you hear that, Mathew? That's what we need now.
My Strat and my amp. My amp is digital though. So still good enough for me.❤. Love your video.🎉
Your Strat reminds me of Kenny Wayne Shepherd's Strat that looks like that, complete with the paint worn away from heavy strumming above the pickguard 🙏❤️🎸
He actually has 2 that look that way: one is vintage and one is a custom shop creation made to use in place of the vintage sunburst Strat. That guitar was Fenders very first time using any sort of "thin skin" finish thats made to wear quicker than normal nitro so it's gets broken in quickly on the road. Pretty sure Fenders 'thin skin' finish they applied in bulk later on was based on this specific guitar.
It's you again!
Simply incredible. Both the strat and les Paul sounded amazing. What a true gift you have mate!
Those P90’s sound amazing through that amp.
In today's money $600 in 1968 is worth $4797 in 2021
Really a fender masterpiece ...so much dynamic in every tone......timeless
Damn, it’s looks like someone bought that amp, put the cover on it and put it in a closet. Insane
This may be the best sounding amplifier and guitar combination on your channel.... WOW.
I just got myself a '74 Super Reverb with JBL's last year. It's absolutely incedible Amp. Great Video! Cheers
Bro took me back 50 years...my big brother had a Fender "Super Six"... the tone (strat or sg) literally melted the day-glow murals he painted off the walls! Ahhh...I can still smell the incense...✌️🎶😎
This is one of the best sounding amps ever. Top of my bucket list now!
Nice!
The sound is incredible. Simply one of the best fender amps I've ever heard. Great playing for full spectrum of sound. Damn!!!
Matthew that was absolutely special, I enjoyed it. Thanks , and continue to enjoy that magical tone
Brother, best thing about your content is that you can tell you're genuinely enjoying getting to play in every second the vid. Love that!!
Glassy yet warm and soft, just a little sheen on top. Never ice pick-y
Wow! This fender thing added with your Talent is gorgeous! Im playing Boogies since 40 Years- but that 4x10 JBL Fender is great!
Hey Matt, what a BEAUTY!!! All vintage, all the way. Guitars & amp. Keep in the zone! Peace.
Man, that is THE tone. Thank you for sharing with us. Sounds great!
man that is the tastiest damn fender tone i have heard in ages, thats literally the defacto fender sound , great stuff my guy
Convinced that you and Jared James are going to bring real rock music back. I'm sitting here waiting for the day my friend!
Wow! This takes me back. My amp for years was a Quad reverb with 4x12" JBLs along with a '63 Strat. Plenty of envious guys on the circuit.
The Strat through that thing was predictably good, but man that old Gibson pairs incredibly well with that amp. Great tones and playing.
