Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao were not progressives, if anything they longed for a mythological Golden Era when there countries were "great". Stalin regressed to a time of feudalism when a tiny minority controlled the lives of its citizens (and other countries it had conquered) were controlled from cradle to grave, Mao and Pol Pot were very much the same, progressives don't believe in quashing intellectual debate, most don't accept the use of science and technology for the furtherance of unlimited military usage. Progressives don't like the use of the Arts or media as simply propoganda tools.
Regressives of the right seem, sadly, to be in the ascendant at the moment, a longing for a time when things were "better" is symptomatic of many of the current debates in the western democracies. This is because, I believe, because it is simpler to look backwards with nostalgia than it is to look forward with trepidation.
The major challenges facing our world today are complex and need solutions which will be hard on everyone Climate Change, rising Inequality,Cyber-Terrorism and so on all require that we work together irrespective of national borders, creed or anything else which differentiates us. Sadly it is easier to claim that if we return to " the good old days" before any of this came into view everything will be allright.

The point Spencer is trying to make in not answering is that you shouldn't associate nationalist ideas with a terrible murderer anymore than you should universal healthcare. People do conflate both of those things with Hitler and Stalin respectively. Communism however is less damaging to be associated with than Nazism. So if someone tries to imply that they are linked with a loaded question you respond by acting as though it is a ridiculous question. "When did you stop beating your wife"? You could answer by saying I never did or by calling the person a fool and responding with an equally foolish question

And there really aren't any inonsisitencies with the data pertaining to the Holocaust. It's been proven over and over and over again. We have the physical evidence, we have thousands of eyewitnesses, and we have tons of paperwork from the Nazis who ran the program.

The most maddening thing about the alt-right in Britain is that the UK been absorbing different elements of different cultures since before Britain became a thing. There is no British culture without the influence of other cultures from around the world since the very beginning.
Watching you skewering right-wing talking heads whilst maintaining your cool has been delightful. I'm ashamed to admit that there was a period wherein I bought into some of the talking points of some of the "tamer" right-leaning RUclipsrs, like the so-called "classical liberals" and pseudo-sceptics, but even then I couldn't escape the feeling that there was something off about them, I even actively avoided their more obviously extreme cohorts as their shit could be smelled from a mile away and then it just clicked. Just because they said a few things that I agreed with I was suddenly allowing myself to ignore all of their demonstrable bullshit that I knew I didn't buy into.

I understand you. I listened to the mild ones about feminism. Back than I was not yet aware that those were right-wings. I always knew that far right-wings are not good.
It did not take long at all until I started getting the feeling that the anti-feminists are right-wings.
I also started pondering more. I knew that women's rights are important and there is no justification for being against them. So I was listening to the voices who claimed that modern feminists were not truely egalitarian. But I felt that it was still not right. I did even more research as everyone should do. Modern feminism simply was not against men. Ethically, it was all settled for me since a long time. Women's rights are necessary. But now it also started getting more and more factual.
Modern feminism is simply not hostile towards men. It is still egalitarian. And I knew that I cannot argue against feminism when I don't aknowlege it for what it is. I must not dismiss the actual definitions. So I stopped listening. I certainly was not going to fight a straw man. Never!

"Modern feminism" is a giant movement that anyone can participate in and to claim that there is cohesion and agreement among everyone who aligns itself with it and their beliefs would be grossly oversimplifying it. When it comes to invalidating experiences of men, most feminists see men and women as being equally valid in their experience, but simply women as in a worse position than men due to the patriarchy and thus in need of more attention, care and etc. Feminists who do dismiss and invalidate men are often trans-exclusionary-radical-feminists (TERFs), but these people are in a great minority and should not make you reject the movement as a whole.
It should also be noted that most other feminists reject TERFs as well.

Another tactic I see, at least on Facebook, is their own variation of Godwin Law, which is to mention Stalin (or Pol Pot or Mao Zedong) at any debate. I kept seeing some trolls do this after yet another school shooting when gun control was mentioned, and they kept posting pics of Stalin at everyone who disagreed with their far right ideology.
These "arguments" are nothing new. They have all been ripped apart multiple times. smdh.

When I went into the comments, I just saw someone who said that he has asked many leftists what they really hate about Stalin, and that he’s never gotten an answer. He's repressing feelings of personal inadequacy, and wants to get _his_ freedom by joining the biggest gang he can think of that doesn't include people he finds viscerally threatening. Then he finds out that people he does find threatening live inside the same nation as him, so he sets out to remove them so he can finally stop being afraid.
Whether someone gives you a straight answer or not, they are informing you of their true feelings. If you ask someone a yes-or-no question, and they don't say no - especially if it is the moral answer - they mean yes. They are just too damn scared to admit it.

Thanks for pointing out this trick they use. It was depressing to watch this video. I could not imagine that so many people still follow the actual nazi ideology. Guess it is a natural result of worsening western economy and people feeling insecure enough to self actualize through the ethnic identity.

For the past few years, RUclips has been dominated by right-wingers, feeding into the fervent ideological echo-chamber of political polarization. It's time to have a balanced discussion.
However, despite the video's sincerity and clear-cut arguments, the comments - as those on Alt-Right videos - are littered with ideologues. Comments such as "the only good nazi is a dead one" only polarize politics more.
Absolutely, reasonable people on the left and the right allow themselves being held hostage by radicals on both sides. We have to denounce them altogether and start discussing with each other without using stupid strawman arguments and ad hominems again. Right now i feel as if discussions on the Internet are completely pointless most of the time.

Travis Schwartz equating Nazi and a commie is not the same. Being a communist is not naturally EXTREME and inherently proposing wiping out a good chunk of the population based on race or ethnicity...you can be a Radical commie. The means in which one would establish or maintain may be violent but communism in an of itself does not have to be violent. Nazism requires violence to operate.
