      Put in the context of watching their police and judges heads placed in the road and having their daughters raped and set on fire, perhaps not so much. It isn't six million, but Mexico is the second most dangerous place to live in the world outside of Syria and Iraq, countries that the United States have made "safe for democracy".

    • @rafeverao4105
      @rafeverao4105 4 года назад +42

      @@JazukaiX I'd say that is correct, yet incorrect. Correct, since the videos are written from the perspective that the holocaust absolutely happened and at the extent to which it is most commonly described, but also incorrect, since it is opposing debates, discussions, and videos of deniers who would want you - the viewer - to accept what _they_ say without questioning _them._
      Also, describing it as _propaganda_ is pointless, since any biased piece of media can be perceived as propaganda to a great extent (and there is no such thing as unbiased media, so there is no such thing as media which is not propaganda, for better or for worse).

    • @JazukaiX
      @JazukaiX 4 года назад +5

      @@rafeverao4105 while everyone would ideally like to be believed without question, do you believe this fantasy that revisionists are afraid of being questioned, when they themselves are the only ones asking real questions instead of blindly believing a mantra that constantly changes, under threat of persecution, even by the law, for doing so? This could not be further from reality. The ones who go around challenging people to debates constantly don't quite seem afraid of being questioned about their beliefs lest they crumble apart under scrutiny.

    • @rafeverao4105
      @rafeverao4105 4 года назад +21

      @@JazukaiX Here we need to differentiate a few things: the deniers I am referring to are specifically the ones producing videos and espousing information which is verifiably false, such as that in the cited video from above. These deniers are using the holocaust to promote their political agendas - "the holocaust was made to sound as bad as it does by the Jews and Russians, clearly as a way to promote Bolshevism and their accursed Jewry," or whatever their agenda implicates at the time. There are some deniers out there (though I can't yet cite any, since I don't go very far down this subject) who have legitimate reasons for denial, and those individuals might be able to stand up in a debate on the subject. The deniers I am referring to cannot stand up to this scrutiny - instead, when they are debated with, they will eventually (and usually rather quickly) turn to fallacy, non-argument, and verbal violence to defend their position. They do this because the alternative is to reveal agendas which are offensive in nature - racism, classism, etc...
      I believe that the deniers which I (and I think the majority of other commenters here) am referring to _are_ afraid of scrutiny and being questioned, but they do not admit to this. Instead, they act like they accept being questioned, before turning to the aforementioned devices of fallacy, non-argument, and verbal violence. They probably think that what they say sounds good enough to be acceptable, and presume their listeners are either in the same political boat as them anyway, or won't scrutinise them very closely - thus, they assume what they say will be accepted blindly.

    Your point about Holocaust deniers being fanatics rings pretty loudly here in the States.
    During my transition away from anti-SJW/WN, which coincided with my overseas tour in the military, I spent a considerable amount of time arguing and debating anti-vaxxers and NEC (the latter being in the Answers in Genesis comments).
    Shortly after I stopped doing this (for the sake of my own mental health), Creationist titan Ken Hamm agreed to a debate with career science educator Bill Nye.
    The final question of the debate was whether or not their position could change. Nye responded that if he was presented with evidence that supported an argument counter to his current opinion, he would change that opinion or belief. In fact, he’s demonstrated this before with vaccines and autism. Hamm, on the other hand, stated that nothing on heaven or Earth would change his literal understanding of the Old Testament.
    That right there is the problem with fanaticism- their entire identity is so entrenched in a single belief that to counter this belief is to uproot and completely destroy everything they’ve built their worldview upon.

    Ok, So, Three arrows, to answer your question as to whether it makes sense to make videos about WW2 and the Holocaust, I would say yes.
    They showed me a lot of stuff that I didn't know, and debunked many of the lies I often hear unchallenged. And I am saying this as someone who was a Holocaust denier of the muslim variety in my early to mid teens.
    Another kind of video which I found great was the one where you talked about the Dresden bombing. I already knew that the death toll was at most around 25 000, but what I didn't know was that Dresden was actually relevant for the war effort.
    So yeah, you can't convince an Ideologue, but you can definitely sway the people in the middle ground.
    Also, I just want to say that I really liked the well-researched aspect of your videos, and the fact that you don't smell like bullshit. I am particularly a fan of the video about the myth of the Frankfurt school.
    Anyway, keep up the good work!

      Fares Gargouri This, I find the main point out of such videos isn't necessarily to convince the person making the argument himself, but rather the people listening in to such unchallenged bullshit, this really helps one understand more about the nature of neo-nazi and holocaust denial deception and how to counter it, so I really hope more of these videos are made if only to show the audience that such claims are not unquestionable facts.

      It can help with people becoming indoctrinated into extremism, too. I was becoming pretty libertarian a few years ago (in total fairness, that's not even remotely as extreme as nazi/fascist/holocaust denial but still) and now I actually lean slightly left thanks to listening to the other side and hearing some of the myths dispelled. It especially helps when exposed to other arguments over a long period.

      Freeman Dyson, a British (and later American) physicist who had worked as a young man with RAF Bomber Command from July 1943 to the end of the war, wrote in later years: "For many years I had intended to write a book on the bombing. Now I do not need to write it, because Vonnegut has written it much better than I could. He was in Dresden at the time and saw what happened. His book is not only good literature. It is also truthful. The only inaccuracy that I found in it is that it does not say that the night attack which produced the holocaust was a British affair. The Americans only came the following day to plow over the rubble. Vonnegut, being American, did not want to write his account in such a way that the whole thing could be blamed on the British. Apart from that, everything he says is true." Dyson later goes on to say: "Since the beginning of the war I had been retreating step by step from one moral position to another, until at the end I had no moral position at all".

    Great job! I never really knew this details about Auschwitz. E.g. that it was in a way multiple camps. I remember reading a book about someone who survived Auschwitz. He spoke of working for IG Farben industrie under terrible conditions. Unfortunately videos like yours are more needed than ever. I see people who have turned towards the alt-right getting woken up by videos you made. You are making a difference and coming from Germany yourself I think gives extra credibility.

    I can imagine quite a telling story to be told where Auschwitz is the scene ... having an opening scene of the psychological tests being done for the folks working there, cutting to a scene of an SS officer going for a swim, then watching a game of soccer, then heading into the camp to 'do what must be done' ... it'd be a hard needle to thread, to show how people don't have to be broken to be monsters, to humanize them without excusing their actions ... all in the goal of making people aware of the casual way that cruelty can slip into 'mundane' life.

    My input, 2 years later:
    You may not convince deniers that they're wrong, because they are fanatics, but you provide a lot of context for those of us who didn't know these things and aren't deniers. I had never heard of the swimming pool and the rest. While it's important to identify evil, it's also important to show that any society can be radicalized and commit atrocities, even if it believes itself to be moral and just...and the proof is in the United States right now. Feed people enough lies and they won't think twice about murdering others, because they will believe that those others are evil, traitors, or anything else you tell them.
    These videos are appreciated by those of us who care about historical accuracy and proper context. Thank you for making them.

    Thanks again. When I was teaching in Poland, I visited camps I and II. Only someone who has never been to the second camp could say there was a pool. We can say that the school book photo only shows one feature, but the starkness of the photo in the snow illustrates the bleakness of the entire camp grounds. The intensity is so great, the thought of what happened so appalling, it beggars the soul to think that there are people not only who deny but who scoff or even laugh about it. Sounds like a Jimmy Carr line: A camp to die for. Using Jordan Peterson's practice of "truth inversion," the people who were laughing must be atheists.
