As someone who is just barely getting into the idea of streaming, this was so helpful and motivating and really makes the whole venture sound like something achievable. Thanks so much for your insight.
"You are your own competition, no one else is." Love this! Only thirty-ish seconds in and already enjoying this advice video as someone prepping to start streaming on Twitch.
I am a coding beginner wanting to share my process to encourage other people getting into coding as well. That's why I am thinking of getting into streaming and your video gave me the courage to kick start that. Thank you!
I'm very new to streaming and didn't realize how much there was to consider just to get started. It really felt like I had jumped into the deep end of the pool with barely any swimming lessons. Everything you've said has been a tremendous help for me. Thank you for going over this because I was feeling overwhelmed before I watched your video. Now I'm off to binge watch the rest of your channel. 😅😊
I’ve been holding off streaming on twitch because I find it really intimidating, but your videos are really helpful and uplifting, and after watching them I’m going to try it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
I am just starting out as well and...to be honest? I am kind of scared. It's a lot to deal with, but we have to remember to have fun, consumers can pick up on it like a hornet.
As someone who's just getting back into RUclips content creation and will be starting my Twitch journey next week, I can’t tell you how incredibly valuable this video and the information in it is. I was just homeless for 6 years and ironically enough starting my RUclips journey during that time. As of four months ago, I'm now in my own place and have bought some equipment and have space to dive in and learn how to stream properly. I've shared and gave so much praise to this video and downloaded it so I will ALWAYS have it as a reference in the future. You've done more for me than you know in helping me on my path and I want to thank you tremendously for doing so🙏🏿 Keep up the amazing work as it's providing a great service to those in need of guidance and inspiration 🙏🏿
Same i havent even finished the video and i've forgotten most of it. i think i'll take a break and maybe work on my overlay first and then later i will watch this again and take notes so i dont forget.

as someone who is now trying to start streaming after getting a ps5, this is super helpful especially the part where you mentioned that there's no competition. That really helps me and reminds me to just be myself and just vibe instead of stressing it so much.
update: I just started streaming after getting a mic, green screen etc... while I am still learning and going through the motion I still find myself coming back to this video for advice! So for anyone starting out like myself this is a great video to watch and keep going back to for feedback.
@@quacksterlol8370 THANK U!! i already started building a small one but we gonna be big one day for sure 💯 streaming is seriously my passion and i love doing it 🔥
I was surprised about the "calling out lurkers" pretty much every community I've visited interacted with is greatful for the lurks. I hadn't realized "calling them out" was a thing. Excellent video 👌
Lurkers are great and streamers love them! Maybe I didn't explain well enough in the video... calling lurkers out is when you specifically talk to someone who has never spoke up in your chat bc you see their name in the viewer list. Not everyone is watching to participate in chat, and it can cause them to just leave
I’ve been streaming for over 3 years and this video helped me so much. It really helped me see my weaknesses and strengths. I’ve learned so much here, thanks for the amazing in depth video, appreciate it!
This is SUCH a nice, informative video! I just started streaming daily a few months ago and I see my stream growing slowly but steadily and some of these things brought up here are things I need to think of constantly. Something I absolutely love about this video is how encouraging you are, I feel like some videos on how to get started on twitch are very "why do you want to do this" "rethink your options" just things that are very discouraging to even try to stream at all, not everyone is looking to do this as a fulltime thing but rather something to have fun with once or twice a week.
6:14 It's a little different when it's hate comments(I'm a trans woman so there's transphobic comments but sometimes people just show up and straight up spam racial slurs) and I've learned to just ignore what they say and ban them but sometimes it's appropriate to comment on the issue but not necessarily give any attention to the troll. I have a few good viewers but it's extremely disappointing that almost 100% of my new viewers are showing up to give me hateful comments. I know this won't be forever and as time goes on they will be outshined by the loving and supporting fans. It's been a year transitioning so far and I've been 100% out as trans, and it's been a very unique experience for me itself, but also that I've been broadcasting my experience on twitch the whole year. I think I've learned how to deal with the hate comments(they just get banned) but it's still a bit exhausting because I'm so small I don't even have any mods. I have given mod to a few viewers but I don't expect them to always be there and mod I just have given them a bit of trust from consistent good behavior.
I think its sad and pathetic when people go out of there way to make sad comments about another person AKA Trolls. As a straight man that has run nightclubs for many years, and I never cared about someones preference. I also have worked with old and young gay men/women/etc. and have noticed a very common theme/advice that the older gave to the younger/"just out". They always said that your preference should never be your 1 or only impression/characteriustic that new people or the world meets. Meaning your "gayness/what have you" should not be the 1st thing people think of you. I hope that made sense, I probably butchered it, haha. If not clear, by all means say so, and I will write more to clarify. lets face it, their are plenty of maggots in the world, but NOT letting them get to you makes the difference of a happier life. Be well, Be real, Be YOU!!
I wanted to start streaming to complement my work on RUclips - I was afraid I wouldn't find any good and honest no-bullshit tutorials. I clicked your video first and was not disappointed. Thanks a lot for making it, you had some great insights and tips and you didn't spend too much time on any one topic. I really appreciate the "I'm not a tech guru" disclosure either haha. Not everyone has to know everything and I like it when people admit there's stuff they are not familiar with! Makes them more authentic and trustworthy!
As an up and coming small streamer, I appreciate all this advice especially about the lurker thing (lowkey my moderator has that problem) cause some viewers aren’t chatters and that’s fine like you said I’m there to entertain not to be entertained

I'm watching this in January 2022 because I've decided that I really wanna try streaming this year and so much of the advice here is really helpful even today! Thanks for sharing and here's hoping I do get the courage to take that leap soon.
I just started streaming a week ago and hit affiliate so I wanted to learn more, this was so helpful and made me think about things I never thought about before. Thank you so much :)
Just started to get into streaming again and I'm so grateful for this video. This is such an in depth, helpful and realistic way of educating people on how to start! I'm very good at quitting but hopefully this time I actually take it seriously this time around (I mean that mildly and in the best way)
Been streaming since the pandemic, and though I did happen to know a lot of this, the burnout section was so cathartic and affirming. Also I just wanted to say I think you did a great job with this video and it is videos like these that gave me and many any chance at all to start up. Keep up the great work
I never used Twitch but omg you’re so informative and sweet, thank you so much! I’m planning to start streaming and if I ever make it, you’re the one to be praised istg
This was really thorough and after 6 months of streaming I could relate to a lot of it -- but also learned some important ways to think about streaming (and trolls).
I’ve always wanted to be a streamer but I’ve always put myself down with it. This video has really given me the confidence to start, just ordered all the stuff for my setup and the stream begins tomorrow. Thanks a lot
I'm keeping it simple, playing bingo on twitch for abt 30 mins a day while talking abt life. I'm almost 40 and i figure "chill mom" is the vibe I'm going for. "Cos I'm not like a regular mom, I'm a cool mom" lawl My goal rn is to make a little pocket change while doing something I enjoy and connecting to other ppl.
You are a very personable person and I love your personality. You were really honest throughout this video and it was great to hear. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this!
I really appreciate how easy and positive all of the information you gave was its really scary to think about all of the things all at once but you helped so much thank you!!
It’s 2021 and I 100% appreciate you, I used to get down about wanting to be “famous” but I’ve been streaming for 5+ hours everyday just being myself and my average view + viewers goes up everyday and that’s all that matters to me! Ty for being so positive and giving helpful advice
Audio quality/levels. Unless you're doing an IRL stream at a windy beach or busy street or something where people can clearly understand why your quality might be bad. Make sure you're mic can clearly pick up your voice at all tones you regularly talk in, and that you're voice level is high enough so that your game or music volume don't mix at the same level as your speech causing it all to blend/be muddied.
I'm looking to start streaming and not being active in a specific twitch-community or being active in chat streams much, the twitch ABC video would be helpful! And more about mods, bots etc. would be cool! :)
I feel like audio is the most important thing. You really want to make sure that you can be heard w/o being drowned out by the game or teammates. If you right-click on your microphone source in OBS you can quickly add a noise gate, limiter, and gain. You can do fancier things with your audio outside of OBS, but just doing that will put you leagues ahead of others.
i have a smol community of 35 and i have atleast 4 viewers and this made me open my eyes on how many things i was doing right and what i can approve on. Thank you so much! im so blessed with such a nice community!
Ooh so I always struggled with engagement beyond just chatter. I can chatter all day. But my friend has a system whereby people would spend their stream points on a treat for her cat or a fuss or something. I can never think of a way of engaging people with my game beyond the usual ‘here are my thoughts, where do you think I should go next?’ If you have any insights on that it’d be appreciated. Of course I know there’s no replacement for just ‘sparkling chatter and stories and talking’ but I’d love to involve my viewers in the actual games more.
HeyShadyLady Back in the day I played a lot of skyrim. My group are reuniting to do more high energy group games, Among Us, keep Talking and nobody explodes etc. But I’m thinking of doing more of my old passion games like dragon age, skyrim, Stardew valley. The sorts of games I know i love and can talk about,
I think I’m gonna just start from square one on twitch. And make a schedule for myself. After watching this video, it’s given me a new found motivation to really get serious about the few things that I actually want to do
My 1st time looking into this subject and I am SO glad you were the 1st video I watched! I thought this would be so over my head (as I am 100% new and only like to play one game) Thank you SO much and love the glasses!!
Insanely great video in regards to production and information delivered. The fact that you hit on self awareness, letting your followers miss you, and setting daily goals POST stream is YUUUGGEEE.
I definitely needed this! I’ve been wanting to start streaming for a while now, but have been having issues with technology and then wondering what to even do. Thank you for this!
Thank you so so much for this! AND THE TIMESTAMPS especially! Took a bunch of notes, gonna get over the overwhelm (1-3 days lol) and uhhh get back in the saddle! Loved this video and will come back to it when I configure OBS and all that stuff. Gonna check out your other videos too. Thank you thank you!!
This tutorial is godsend thank you 😭💕💕 I've always wanted to get into the youtube/twitch thing but its a bit overwhelming trying to learn all these things and this makes me less scared of giving it a go🥺
My husband and I started streaming video games together for the first time yesterday!! We enjoyed it so much. I started researching how to stream better, and by FAR your video has been the most helpful!
I might be late to the party but thank you so much for this video. I may be getting ahead of myself by watching this because I don't even have a gaming setup, but I really want to try out streaming! This is definitely a dream of mine that I want to get started on, and this video just motivated me a whole lot more. Thanks for everything :')
Girl!!!! This video is so spot ON!!!! I don’t even know what streaming is…just heard about it five minutes ago but your video makes me WANT TO BE A STREAMER…I always thought of myself as an educator but thought teachers didn’t make much money and def didn’t want to deal with teaching adults so teaching was out…I think of streaming as teaching someone your passion. I like it.
Heyyy I just watched you on my TV. So glad I found this. Also listening to your first podcast episode. There is so much to learn here. I'm just getting into streaming. Thank you so much!! ❤
This was very engaging, and had loads of useful information for someone like me who is trying her hand at streaming. Thank you so much for your time and effort!
Would definitely love a tutorial on making overlays! I am hoping to get into streaming soon, and my wife also streams, so it would be nice to be able to help her make some nice ones :)
Thanks for this video! I think I'm gonna finally commit to Tuesdays and Thursdays for my schedule since I travel for work a lot the other days. Meana says hi Toasty!
I was very insecure about the idea of suddenly streaming so I'm glad I found this video :) thank you so much for this tutorial and your voice is very comforting :>
This video came up in my recommended, and I saw your whole video because I thought you had a very nice voice lol. It's so calm and smooth and honestly if you read books, I would listen to your audiobooks too haha. Just subscribed!

This is great content! Thank you so much for this! I would like to see you discuss about streaming in terms of accessibility. I’m a Deaf Queer Streamer and it’s frustrating to see lack of captions on Twitch and other streaming platform. I’d like to see more discussions on this! Thanks!
seconded! I’m disabled and am effectively HoH bc of receptive language/auditory processing issues, and I notice a lot of more successful disabled/Deaf/HoH streamers have similar privilege in that we appear ablebodied or don’t “sound deaf” (quoting other ppl here, obv I don’t think there’s necessarily a single way of sounding deaf lol), but even with that privilege, it might make creating content less fraught, but it doesn’t make it easier to engage with OTHER ppl’s content. and obv autocaptions aren’t super great, but tbh they’re better than nothing. it’s all rly frustrating and makes the “spend time in the categories you plan to stream in” advice in this video really hard to implement :/
Camp rock meme voice: *"She's really good!"* Seriously, thank you, so. much. This guide, and all your others, are incredible. I don't feel anywhere near as daunted starting now, and i'll probably rewatch this video 3-4 times, THANK YOU!
I was hesitant to watch when I saw it was 40 minutes, but I'm REALLY glad I did! I'm still preparing so this gave me a ton of great information to work with! I'm subscribing and looking forward to digging into the rest of your content. Thank you so much! ❤️
This video was sent by the gods, I swear. I've just started streaming with the goal being to get more attention to my art and my upcoming comic. I had one stream which was really fun and even had a person engaging in chat. But gosh I am just super nervous to stream for some reason. I just get so anxious!
Thank you for this video!! I literally decided to become a streamer 2 hours ago and have been struggling with where to begin: this was perfect and made me feel so much better!!
11:28 unfortunately no matter how hard I try I can't seem to get any growth at all on youtube/twitter/tiktok/instagram and it's really starting to make me feel unwanted. I try to keep a positive attitude though and I keep trying to improve and keep showing up anyway. One of these days something is just going to start working.
Hi! I feel like I’m somewhat qualified to answer this. In total, I’ve been on RUclips for about a year doing kpop dances. Recently I started a gaming channel and a twitch. Overall, I haven’t had much growth, and in the beginning it really got to me, but now I know how to over come it. - straight up ignore the stats (it’s quite extreme, but you’ll have more fun once you don’t care about the views) - acknowledge the stats but shrug it off - don’t try and create fan based content. By this I mean don’t do QnAs, fan recommendations etc until you have people do actually do them with. When you get 1-5 comments, it can be demotivating that there aren’t more people, and it really highlights that. My advice is just to wait off until you start getting questions or whatnot without you asking. If you’re curious, on my dance channel I have 30 subs and average between 15-50 views. On my gaming I have 8 subs and 5-30 views. On my twitch I average at about 1-2 viewers per stream and 20ish followers :)
I’ve always wanted to be a content streamer. I’m so introverted lol😅, but I like relating to people when it comes to different topics. You gave all of us sooooo much great info! Thank you for this video😊! I’ll keep all of this in mind when I start my twitch channel in a few months😊.

I'm keeping it simple, playing bingo on twitch for abt 30 mins a day while talking abt life. I'm almost 40 and i figure "chill mom" is the vibe I'm going for. "Cos I'm not like a regular mom, I'm a cool mom" lawl
My goal rn is to make a little pocket change while doing something I enjoy and connecting to other ppl.
whats your twitch name i wanna come check it out!
If you’re still streaming pleaaase tell me your twitch name
I would love to know your twich name also :D
she really just dropped this super interesting stream descritpion and dipped huh
:(
You are a very personable person and I love your personality.
This video was tons of help . Took me forever to get started but now I actually feel good about this step into a new community. Cheers.
what are some tips you think new streamers need to know when getting started?
Smile more and laugh, a lot of them just don’t
my biggest issue is i have no idea what game to start with
i have a smol community of 35 and i have atleast 4 viewers and this made me open my eyes on how many things i was doing right and what i can approve on. Thank you so much! im so blessed with such a nice community!
I’ve been out of the game for a few years and I’m thinking of getting back into it then boom you upload this.
yayyy, i hope it helps you out! :o best of luck, lemme know if you have any questions you'd like to see a video on !
Ooh so I always struggled with engagement beyond just chatter. I can chatter all day. But my friend has a system whereby people would spend their stream points on a treat for her cat or a fuss or something.
I can never think of a way of engaging people with my game beyond the usual ‘here are my thoughts, where do you think I should go next?’
If you have any insights on that it’d be appreciated. Of course I know there’s no replacement for just ‘sparkling chatter and stories and talking’ but I’d love to involve my viewers in the actual games more.
@@Sanisgillon that's an excellent topic tbh!! is there a specific genre of games you tend to play?
HeyShadyLady Back in the day I played a lot of skyrim. My group are reuniting to do more high energy group games, Among Us, keep Talking and nobody explodes etc. But I’m thinking of doing more of my old passion games like dragon age, skyrim, Stardew valley. The sorts of games I know i love and can talk about,
I think I’m gonna just start from square one on twitch. And make a schedule for myself. After watching this video, it’s given me a new found motivation to really get serious about the few things that I actually want to do
Superb video Shady especially the part about analytics, I didn't expect it to be this good. This is like a "master-class" on Twitch! Very well done!
Thank you so much!
My 1st time looking into this subject and I am SO glad you were the 1st video I watched! I thought this would be so over my head (as I am 100% new and only like to play one game) Thank you SO much and love the glasses!!
Ok so I was freaking out a little as i thought your second tank was falling over.. it's a mirror lol
😂😂😂 oh no lmaoo
Insanely great video in regards to production and information delivered. The fact that you hit on self awareness, letting your followers miss you, and setting daily goals POST stream is YUUUGGEEE.
Thank you so much!!

I have found the holy grail of streaming tutorials/advice. You seem super educated! Thank you :D

I've been contemplating starting a twitch channel for over a year, this has been really helpful in just starting and not overthinking things!
Just made a twitch today and this was so unexpectedly helpful in more ways than I could have hoped, tysm for taking the time to create this! 🥰❤️🙏🏻
This tutorial is godsend thank you 😭💕💕
I've always wanted to get into the youtube/twitch thing but its a bit overwhelming trying to learn all these things and this makes me less scared of giving it a go🥺
when u started listing out signs of burnout i was like....... "yep. yep. mmhmm. thats me!" i'm currently on a break LMAOOOO
My husband and I started streaming video games together for the first time yesterday!! We enjoyed it so much. I started researching how to stream better, and by FAR your video has been the most helpful!
This is a fantastic video. Thank you! I started streaming a week ago and im looking to understand my next steps. This video is incredibly helpful
Wow, you are fantastic! Thank you for taking the time to make this video
Thank you for watching!
im so glad you like it! thank you! lemme know if you've got any specific questions, i'd be glad to make a video :)
“learn to talk to yourself”
already got that covered in my day to day 😂
This was very engaging, and had loads of useful information for someone like me who is trying her hand at streaming. Thank you so much for your time and effort!
This video was a lot more thorough than other beginner streamers tips videos. Thank you so much! You just gained another subscriber!
Would definitely love a tutorial on making overlays! I am hoping to get into streaming soon, and my wife also streams, so it would be nice to be able to help her make some nice ones :)
I am just toooo new. I wanna maybe- try to stream this helped me so much I will never forget you! :D
Thanks for this video! I think I'm gonna finally commit to Tuesdays and Thursdays for my schedule since I travel for work a lot the other days.
Meana says hi Toasty!
Hello Meana!!!
I was very insecure about the idea of suddenly streaming so I'm glad I found this video :) thank you so much for this tutorial and your voice is very comforting :>
I'm rewatching this for 3rd time. I really appreciate all the information you provide! Thank you ♥
Thank you so much for making this, you sweet human. 🧡🦊
This video came up in my recommended, and I saw your whole video because I thought you had a very nice voice lol. It's so calm and smooth and honestly if you read books, I would listen to your audiobooks too haha. Just subscribed!
aw thank you so much!!
This is gold, straight to the point, dunno if any updates came these past 2/3 years but everything was on point. Great tut Shady, thanks a bunch!
The streaming burn out is SO RELATABLE! AaaAAaa why must you call me out on this? BUT ALSO! This video has GREAT info ✨ Definitely recommend!
I couldn't figure out why my videos weren't saving, now I know why. It was such a pain, thanks for the help :)
This was such a fantastic video!! Thanks so much for sharing so much of your wisdom and experience ✨
I don't really use Twitch but your video was recommended to me so I had to click & watch because you're beautiful and seriously look like Bayonetta 😍 Love the hair!
Aww what a compliment, thank you!!
This was perfect honestly, at first I was like 'eh 40 min that's a bit long' but it was SO worth it, thank you so much!
This is absolutely so helpful 💕💕 I love how you broke it down in to separate parts and now I can come back and reference this when I need to!
Camp rock meme voice: *"She's really good!"*
Seriously, thank you, so.
This helped so much, thank you! I've been streaming for some time already on Facebook and I plan to move to Twitch! This video is 99999% informative.
Damn this was juicy & healthy! Thx for this
This video was sent by the gods, I swear. I've just started streaming with the goal being to get more attention to my art and my upcoming comic.
I had one stream which was really fun and even had a person engaging in chat.
But gosh I am just super nervous to stream for some reason. I just get so anxious!
I'm a small (tiny, very tiny) artist trying to create an audience for my upcoming webcomic, so this was really helpful for me, thank you so much!
Where can I see your work? ☺
@@meganjenkins7093 hi!! All my links are on my channel, thanks for your interest
Thank you for this video!! I literally decided to become a streamer 2 hours ago and have been struggling with where to begin: this was perfect and made me feel so much better!!
You will make it!
I am a new Yt also, it is so hard to grow. I always get so disappointed.
TikTok is the easiest platform to DATE to go viral on! I recommend doing double time on there because it’s so worth it
Hi! I feel like I’m somewhat qualified to answer this. In total, I’ve been on RUclips for about a year doing kpop dances. Recently I started a gaming channel and a twitch. Overall, I haven’t had much growth, and in the beginning it really got to me, but now I know how to over come it.
- straight up ignore the stats (it’s quite extreme, but you’ll have more fun once you don’t care about the views)
- acknowledge the stats but shrug it off
- don’t try and create fan based content.
Have you asked for feedback? Ask people to check it out and give you constructive criticism.
streaming is very intimidating to me and i constantly find myself doubting my own talent. thank you for the advice + tips!
This was incredibly helpful!! I’m about to start streaming and felt so overwhelmed. Your video was full of helpful tips! Thank you!
Youre welcome! 🧡
I’ve always wanted to be a content streamer. I’m so introverted lol😅, but I like relating to people when it comes to different topics. You gave all of us sooooo much great info! Thank you for this video😊! I’ll keep all of this in mind when I start my twitch channel in a few months😊.
