Also good to go to the other stream before raiding to make sure they are going to stay online. A few times now that I've gone to raid a friend only for them to also be ending and so my raid was just forwarded to another raid! Which is great, but I usually don't know the new streamer, haha. But also YES to raiding people without telling them you stream ahead of time. I did that once to someone I had even been subbed to for a few months and they were like "omg I didn't know you streamed!?" I only added like 7 people to their stream, but when you're small that's a lot! And new exposure is always great!
Great tips! I absolutely love that you point out how to redirect the conversation once you finally raid, because so many people end up raiding and wanting that shoutout but dont realize people won't actually go to their channel from that shoutout unless they interact with the streamer and chat a little and let people get to know them.
Last night I sent a raid for the first time and I had such trouble with it, because I didn’t realize I shouldn’t put the @ sign lol. The streamer did appreciate it though and they said it was their first time being raided. It made me feel really good to be able to help in a small way. Thank you so much for all your helpful videos. You’ve really helped me a lot 💙
This was an absolutely incredible guide and as a brand new streamer i can't thank you enough! I really appreciate the more business oriented approach you gave this, like, obviously it is for fun and we're all playing video games and spamming emotes and acting like children, but at the same time, raiding is a networking strategy, and i honestly had never thought of it that way. Also that you seem to have really gone out of your way to distinguish what parts of this are more rules and what parts are just good practice or the typical polite thing to do. The whole idea of mixing between "raiding up" and "raiding down" was really interesting, especially the point of how you really should raid no matter how small your stream is. Also the subtle point of hanging out in communities with the ultimate goal of getting raided while at the same time not constantly shouting that you're a streamer. I know I'm just praising the entire video at this point but this just was so well done and i'm so glad I found it! Def gonna be checking out your streams now for sure!
😭😭😭😭 omg I asked if anyone had questions about raids i should include in this video and someone on my Twitter started asking about WoW raids and i was like 🥴🤠😔
Hey I really love what you do!! If you see my RUclips channel you will be able to tell that I am a Zumba/Cardio Dance Instructor (NOT A GAMER), and I am trying to stream what I do in Twitch, but I don't know what my category would be or what to do exactly since Twitch seems to be a different language for me! Thank you again for your amazing content!!!
Thanks for the video!! The first raid I received span me out a bit but it taught me the importance of raiding at the end of streams. I try to make sure I set time aside for raiding at the end of streams now. Host and ghost is a great line though - I tend to think of raids as passing the torch on so I try not to dominate the raided stream.
Thank you so much for talking about specific Twitch etiquette because it's been really, strangely, difficult to navigate for me. I've just been lurking on channels to try and understand, but being able to hear all of this in one concise video saves me so much time haha...
A viewer being woke up by loud noises, after a raid, is so relatable. If I’m going to fall asleep while watching twitch, I always take into consideration the fact they will probably raid and it may wake me up
I love raiding because I love introducing my Chat to other cool streamers with fun/helpful/engaging Communities. I seldom raid channels I don't know, due to a few not-so-great experiences that my raiders did *not* appreciate, but I *do* take the time to do a little peak-and-ponder before bringing my Community to new channels (especially if the channel vibe/rating varies from mine). I love doing an occasional raid of a lower-viewer streamer because it makes their day and usually improves the interaction of their community games, which is what I concentrate on. I have been known to drop bits or a random sub occasionally, if I can tell the streamer is having a bad day or challenging stream. The best feeling is when my goodwill is infectious and a Hype Train is triggered‼️🥰
Good to know. I'm a DJ and I was part of an Old school House raid train but I didn't know how to raid. It was my first time so I just mentioned following the next DJ that was listed on the flyer. Now I know what to do the next time I am in a raid event. Thanks.
Thank you for this! I’ve been trying these tips and it’s been working well for me ❤️ I even got raided by one of my favourite streamers recently and it was such a good feeling!!
I found getting a raid was disruptive to my stream and vibes with viewers who chose to check me out, stick around for a while and chat, which is a big thing as a new streamer - getting people to come in organically. Didn't enjoy the experience at all and disabled it on my 3rd stream. Just another perspective - I'm sure it can help growth, but if you don't want to do raids for whatever reason then there's other options. This is a great video though :)
Thanks for making another helpful video! I always struggle on how to be super welcoming to raids but not taking my current viewers out of the content I'm making and being too disruptive of the stream. I like the idea of trying to loop the conversation from the new raiders into what was happening before they entered the stream! Some nights I get way more raids then others and I need to take into account of how much time I spend away from the actual content vs being chatty. I love meeting new peeps though and have met some of my closest friends on twitch through raids so I'm very careful about how I give and receive them, they are so so important!
This was super helpful! I'm going to start streaming probably in the next month and I've been rewatching a bunch of your videos to help out! Thank you for the tips ❤
Been streaming less than a month, and got my first raid yesterday. It was from a streamer I'd been interacting with for a while, and it did indeed give me my highest viewers ever lol. 18 viewers dropped in on my usually 2 viewers max! I did get a little overwhelmed :) but it was a wonderful feeling.
This has been so helpful!!! I've been to a few twitch streams where the streamer is rude or generally didn't care much for the community, just wanted money
Thank you for putting this content out! Last night was the first time I got raid by someone and all of your tips came to my mind and helped me feel confident about my response
U R SO UNDERRATED !! you deserve more views and subs. Thanks so much for tips, I haven't watched it yet but I was expecting much more likes and subs on here. I saw your other getting started on twitch video in 2021 and it was sooo helpful!! YOU GOT A NEW SUBSCRIBER!!
@@HeyShadyLady hey! i have a question if you don't mind answering! I see some big streamers playing copyrighted music like from their favorite artists. How can we do that? I WANNA HAVE A DANCE PARTY
Thankyou so much for your help. We are just starting with twitch and this video has helped so much. I didnt even know about raiding until this video. Thank you again!!
Thank you. Super informative. I want to help others when I can. I also raid to meet new people and hopefully make new friends. I just need to remember to keep doing it. Now I know how to do it right. Thank you.
Ah, I want to see this just because of the feeling, your stuff is so great! Informative, and you present it so that I don't stress. I easily get stressed, but your content I'm able to follow. Thank you
26:20 I’m a small streamer so I don’t get many raids but when I do I typically say something along the lines of “thank you so much for the raid I hope you had a great stream!”
You´re a smart one ;3 Most of these tips a very well-thought. I also think raiding "down" is awesome. It's just wholesome, cute and emotionally rewarding; Specially if you know the other streamer is sweet and has potential but they could use more exposure.
Thank you so much for the advice ! I'm a very little (and kinda discouraged) streamer, but I used to raid "low" as I was scared it'd feel intrusive to raid a bigger stream, but now I do feel like trying, juste for the sake of maybe not looking as bad as I thought !
I recently have been binge watching your videos and i would just like to say i absolutely LOVE your vibes and personality and GREATLY appreciate your videos.
As someone who has spent time as both the streamer and a viewer there are a few guidelines to have a raid be emotionally satisfying for you as a streamer in 2023. Always raid to someone with the same or less viewers. If you hit at 80 viewer show with 3 viewers your raid just looks like you're fishing for shoutouts in big streams. As a viewer it would be to raid someone playing the same game as you. Nothing kills the vibe like getting dumped from Battlefield into Stardew Valley.
Thank you so much for making all of this content I have been watching your videos pretty religiously since I’ve started streaming and they have been a huge help. 💕💕💕
Hello! I just found your channel and I think you give great information for us newbies :) It's obvious you are spending a lot of time and effort to prepare and summarize everything to make it clear but also complete. It's really appreciated! A comment on "raiding up". I'm just starting out and I've had maybe 2-3 viewers, sometimes I feel raiding someone with a higher viewer count can almost feel like a self-plug on their bigger community and not like a "legitimate" raid for them. I mean if we are talking about 2 viewers raiding a channel with 100+ viewers. I guess I need to go and check out a lot of channels to have more options, thanks for the tip!
I am suuuper tiny and have been too scared to raid just yet. Your video has helped a ton though, and now I feel like I know a little more about it??? So Thank you! ^^
This is an amazing and thorough review of HOW to raid and be raided! As a new streamer who didn’t even know what raiding was until I was raided, this was invaluable! Thank you! Hi HeyshadyLady I just stumbled across your you tube and I love it. You give out some great advise. I am a new Streamer growing slowly. Wanted to say thank you for all the awesome tips you are giving out. It is so hard sometimes to find good tips and true tips.
This has been so helpful thank you so much! I’m actually starting my first stream ever tomorrow and a little nervous. Your video and vibes have helped calm me a bit but we’ll see how it goes 😅
@@diddikong700 this really depends on how true to yourself you want to remain!! When I first started streaming I was very vulgar (f-bombs everywhere, cussing almost every other sentence) I still cuss occasionally in my streams, though, but I've greatly reduced and changed my cussing to "cuter" words (like what the heck instead of what the fuck).. For my youtube videos I've limited cussing to the extreme because it helps with monetization and shareability. Over the last 2 years or so I started reducing the amount of cussing I did because I noticed that videos or clips I was cussing in got shared a lot less than ones without cuss words. In general "family friendly" content is much more share-able. Also brands won't reshare my clips if I cuss in them, so it reduced my ability to network well with game companies. All that being said - stay true to yourself. There are plenty of vulgar streams that don't give a fuck lmaoo and do just fine! There's an audience for vulgar content, and there are brands that love working with vulgar content as well. So it all depends on what you want your audience to be, what feels natural for you, and what you enjoy creating!
Thank you so much for this! I've been slowly getting back into streaming and wanting to improve, but the etiquette of twitch is so hard for me to parse 😬
okay so video idea / question... how did you prepare yourself for your own online privacy and security? is there any tips that people might not think about when it comes to protecting themselves virtually if you plan on trying to become / are a content creator?
I love being a undercover super spy in someone’s channel and then raid them later on, it’s so fun to surprise them. Also, a fun way to give $$ but not overwhelming them is to use a couple sound alerts! They get bits, it’s fun and engaging and people love it!
Been binging your content. Recently got suggested all of your videos. Such great advice. Had to subscribe and follow you on twitch. Hope to be able to catch your stream sometime.
Awesome vid. I’ve been streaming for many yrs now & like to stay educated & reminded via videos like this. Very much on the same page w/ what I do. Great advise here!
What a great video, so informative. I really appreciate you showing the clip from one of your streams' incoming raids. A lot of us implemented various safety tools that may not be very raid friendly, like verification & follower only, which tools do you feel are ok to disable now that things seem to have settled down? I'm really glad you addressed raid videos although I'm not a fan of them, (I think they are better for breaks), I appreciate hearing your thoughts on them. I really prefer raiding channels of a similar size to mine & whom I already know, but often feel as if I'm raiding the same people over & over again. I've made a conscious effort to try to limit how many time a month I raid those channels, but sometimes that means skipping a raid. I have raided some very large streams, but only once in awhile when they are doing a fundraiser or something special.
Those are great tips! I'll definetely keep them in mind :) it also makes me reconsider streaming with a webcam haha because I'm very anxious and hate the looks of my own face so i previously always streamed without
Thanks so much for this super informative video. Even for streamers who aren't that new to the game really helpful tipps. Sometimes you forget those things. What I Have seen recently often is that some streamers host or host and raid instead of just raid. Havent found much on it why and what difference that makes. Do you happen to know more about it?
"i just rlly think that everyone should be raiding" me with my 3 viewers who wants to raid but doesnt have enough viewers: :'( edit: just got to the part where u say dw abt raiding with a small view count :') 3 might still be too small but is all okay
3 viewers is still enough to raid with!! at "small" numbers like that i'd recommend raiding other people with about the same average view count as you -- if you're raiding with 3 people, raid another "small" streamer who has 3-5 viewers, you're basically doubling their view count!
I will say that something that weighs on me a little with the raiding debate, is that I feel like I'm not very good at receiving raids in general, and that viewers of people who raid me don't often stick around. So sometimes raiding others feels like it doesn't benefit me at all and might even hurt, like I might raid someone awesome and hey, my viewers might even decide that they like that person better. So there's that insecurity to get over, perhaps. I agree with raiding etiquette and not making it all about your stream when you raid. Like I one time got a raid that kind of rubbed me the wrong way because they were gushing to me over and over about how they reached a follower goal and how they cried and how they love their community. Multiple messages. And I responded nicely but also kind of tried to turn the conversation back to what I was doing because I found it a little overbearing how much they came into my stream with a raid talking about themselves, when we didn't know each other before
Im a new streamer and got raided during my second stream. I didn’t notice and I feel so bad about it. I immediately gifted her viewers some subs to her channel when I saw later on and followed her and I’ll try and thank her when she streams next time. :(
i have a question, if someone joins my stream and stays in there for a while would it be weird to write their name down to remember it if they come back?
Also good to go to the other stream before raiding to make sure they are going to stay online. A few times now that I've gone to raid a friend only for them to also be ending and so my raid was just forwarded to another raid! Which is great, but I usually don't know the new streamer, haha.

I love being a undercover super spy in someone’s channel and then raid them later on, it’s so fun to surprise them. Also, a fun way to give $$ but not overwhelming them is to use a couple sound alerts! They get bits, it’s fun and engaging and people love it!
Cool video. Never really knew the details behind raiding. The more you know...
Thank you so much! This is a very helpful tip if I ever do start steaming you will be the first I going to visit!!!!
Been binging your content. Recently got suggested all of your videos. Such great advice. Had to subscribe and follow you on twitch. Hope to be able to catch your stream sometime.
thank you so much!
@@HeyShadyLady most welcome. Finding cool people like you is the whole reason I decided to get into twitch.
Thank you so much for all of your help, your videos are awesome
Awesome vid. I’ve been streaming for many yrs now & like to stay educated & reminded via videos like this. Very much on the same page w/ what I do. Great advise here!
thank you so much!
I'll definetely keep them in mind :) it also makes me reconsider streaming with a webcam haha because I'm very anxious and hate the looks of my own face so i previously always streamed without
Awesome video. I appreciated the advice. I will take your suggestions to heart. Have a great night.
This was such a great video, more like this please

Yes kween . Thanks for the tips!!
you're welcome, thanks for watching!!
Thank you! I'm new and this has helped me a lot
Ohhhh, I didn't know we don't need the @ symbol added to the username of the streamer I wanna raid. I'll keep that in mind, thank you. 🤜🤛🏾
You dont!! it should work either way
Thanks so much for this super informative video. Even for streamers who aren't that new to the game really helpful tipps. Sometimes you forget those things.
What I Have seen recently often is that some streamers host or host and raid instead of just raid. Havent found much on it why and what difference that makes. Do you happen to know more about it?
tysm im gonna stream for the 1th time tomorrow so this really helped!!
GREAT video, thank you!
I love this, it was so helpful!
"i just rlly think that everyone should be raiding"
me with my 3 viewers who wants to raid but doesnt have enough viewers: :'(
edit: just got to the part where u say dw abt raiding with a small view count :') 3 might still be too small but is all okay
3 viewers is still enough to raid with!! at "small" numbers like that i'd recommend raiding other people with about the same average view count as you -- if you're raiding with 3 people, raid another "small" streamer who has 3-5 viewers, you're basically doubling their view count!
@@HeyShadyLady Love this advice! I'll try it. I'm the same as Ryry.
And I responded nicely but also kind of tried to turn the conversation back to what I was doing because I found it a little overbearing how much they came into my stream with a raid talking about themselves, when we didn't know each other before
absolutly love your videos !!!!!
I love this.
Yayy! 😊💕
Im a new streamer and got raided during my second stream. I didn’t notice and I feel so bad about it. I immediately gifted her viewers some subs to her channel when I saw later on and followed her and I’ll try and thank her when she streams next time. :(
Hiii!! New subbie here. Where did you get your chair cover from? I absolutely love it!!
i have a question, if someone joins my stream and stays in there for a while would it be weird to write their name down to remember it if they come back?
Thanks a lot!!!
it's almost 3am and my brain is turned off but i wanted to leave a comment but also have nothing insightful to say ok thanks for video bye
LMAOOO thank you jaki
😂
Very informative! When streaming from the ps4 and i want to raid somebody will it still work if i type in the chat from my phone?
This is beautifully explained
Thank you! 🥺
Yeah I always felt weird raiding with like 2 viewers to someone with like 60 it made me feel like it wasn’t right lmao
Best information out!!
