Losing his hand made him hate Dooku, and want revenge, therefore, speeding his turn to the dark side. So not only was Palpatine not mad at Dooku, he would be happy Dooku did it.
Have you ever read about Christopher Lee? He was literally one of the most bad-ass people to ever live. He fought in WWII for two different governments, he was responsible for torturing Nazis to get information. Most of his career is redacted. During filming of The Two Towers he asked Peter Jackson if he knew what it sounded like when someone was stabbed in the back. Jackson said no, Lee cryptically said "I do." After that, Jackson stopped trying to tell him how he should act the scene. The guys acting is amazing but only a very small part of his amazing life, I encourage you to read up on him if you haven't.
On Geonosis Count Dooku was not completely sold on his turn to the Dark Side quite yet. He still had personal attachments to Obi-Wan and by extension Anakin as they both represented a connection to his apprentice Qui-Gon Jin. He could have killed Obi-Wan or at least cut off his arm and leg rather than grazing him with precise moves. He could have just as easily decapitated Anakin rather than taking his arm. His sigh as he stood over their broken bodies at the end of the duel caused him to recognize what he would have to sacrifice to bring order to the Galaxy. Sentimentality.
justmadesomethingup No. Dooku had already been a full-fledged Sith by that point what are you even talkin about..... his "turn" happened 10 years prior have you never watched the clone wars or read anything??? HE is the one that had Syfo Dias order the creation of the clone army, and HE is the one who had him killed..... Qui-Gon's death -- the death of his apprentice -- was the final straw in what completed his turn to the Darkside. It was LONG before Ep2 ever even came around......Like I said, 10 years to be exact.. He had already grown "disillusioned" with the Jedi order even before the events of Ep1 and finally left the order and completed his turn after the death of Qui-Gon. Go watch TCW and learn a few more things on it. Specifically the episodes about the past and what exactly happened Syfo Dias....... Dooku had already been a Sith for years by Ep2 and the start of the war.
True. But he had no personal attachment to Syfo Dias. He was an obstacle and threatened to expose the flaw in the clones and interfere with the Grand Plan of the Sith. Killing Syfo Dias was necessary. Killing Obi-Wan and Anakin could have been seen as just as necessary, he had already revealed part of the plan to Obi-Wan out of an attempt to sway him to his cause. Now that Obi-Was in on the secret a little bit, silencing him after he refused should have been his next action. But he didn't, and he could have easily. Because at that time he was still emotionally sympathetic to Obi-Wan (though Anakin not so much).
Dooku was very much a Sith Apprentice by the time of Geonosis, however, as has been noted elsewhere Dooku never fully submersed himself in the Dark Side the way Maul or Anakin did. Defeating Obi-Wan by grazing his arm and leg fits in with Dooku's style of lightsaber combat and the fact that he was clearly just out to prove his obvious superiority after Obi-Wan blocked his Force Lightning (the shit-eating grin on Dooku's face before he defeats Obi-Wan proves he was toying with him the entire time). Even with that aside _the guy clearly tried to kill Obi-Wan before Anakin intervened._ After that Dooku dispatched Anakin (who he knew he couldn't kill) and took off his arm. Before he could do anything else Yoda showed up and forced him to flee. If Yoda hadn't shown up then Dooku would very likely have killed Obi-Wan and left. Which would have _beautifully_ suited Palpatine's plans by giving Anakin even more incentive to feel anger, hatred and a lust for revenge against Dooku, furthering his descent to the Dark Side. But Yoda did show up, so Obi-Wan lived.
Lord-Commander Savage ok if Obi wan would have cut both real arms off, then why is anakins mechanical arm not cut off in RotS? It's not lightsaber proof
I think his face in the movie is because he used to be a wise and honorable jedi. That's how the character was thought. The novelizations completely miss the mark on his character.
He also seemed physically exhausted, as even with the Dark Side, he was an old man with waning vitality, health and resilience. He could only boost himself for so long.
I completely agree with you wilbi, I mean the guy spent at least 60+ years as a Jedi Master and then suddenly becomes a xenophobe with a repulsion to cybernetics.. the novelization was mostly good but that was a missed mark indeed.
I always took Sidious' retort to Dooku's comment as one of subtle displeasure. Ie, "you've damaged my prize, so now you're gonna get it." Reminds me of when Vader had Han frozen to test the carbonite system when he remarks that he doesn't want the Emperor's prize damaged.
Vader letting his temper get the better of him there, after Luke's lucky hit on his shoulder. And of course, it plays out the exact same way: Luke takes his vengeance on the one who maimed him, whilst Palpatine urges him to slay the fallen foe. Only difference being that Luke loves his father, whereas Anakin simply hated Dookie.
Honestly, Palpatine was probably secretly thrilled that Dooku cut ocf Anakin's arm. It furthered Anakin's struggle with dealing with loss and gave him reason for revenge. Palpatine even says as much after the beheading. "He cut off your arm, you wanted revenge." For Anakin it would serve as a permanent reminder that he was inadequate and a source of frustration and anger. Tools to help turn him to the dark side.
Dr. Void not to mention the force flows through living tissue. Well that's an entire limb that no longer helps resonate the force. Had he not beem a skywalker, his power in the force would have been greatly reduced initially losing one limb, then subsequently the next three.
Yes.....Not only a tool to turn him, But something to keep that connection to the Darkside as well, and fuel himself further......And no, it was just an arm at the elbow down. His power would not have been "greatly reduced" , Have you seen how many Jedi or Sith have missing limbs.... it didn't even affect him. He was still the strongest being in the galaxy until he got cooked alive and had to pretty much start from scratch.
Daz Davis92 Yeah but going by what some people have said, even if he had not lost at Mustafar, he still would have only been able to shoot force lightning out of his left hand.
So we never got McGregor as Obi Wan, General Grievous being a badass, both the 2003 and 2008 Clone Wars series, Darth Maul, Sidious being one of the smartest and most evil villains on screen, and some of the best duels in the entire series?
+Kay Laz ...even though the Phantom Menace had more practical effects than the entire Original Trilogy combined. Did it have some cheesy as fuck acting? Every Star Wars movie does. Was Jar Jar annoying? Yeah, and so was OT C3-P0, and especially the Ewoks. Was Liam Neeson as Qui Gon the best thing ever? Fuck yeah!
+Kay Laz a plot hole would be Luke's convoluted plan at the start of Ep. 6. Or how about Luke casually using force choke, a dark side ability? What about the confusing cantina scene with all of it's glaring inconsistencies? Or storm troopers being inaccurate as all sin, despite Obi Wan saying "only a storm trooper is this accurate"? Chewy not getting a medal at the end of Ep. 4? A second Death Star being built within 3 years, despite the first one taking 20? I could go on.
Crossbone Vanguard you're an idiot. "One of the few good things about the prequels" , dude, stop repeating everything you hear and tryin to score brownie points with old OT-purist Fucks. Lmao Ep3 was by FAR the greatest film of the saga. By a long shot. It gave us everything we'd ever wanted in a Star Wars film. We got to see Vader/Anakin in his prime and just how jacked he truly was and how insane he was with a lightsaber, It gave us the best battle/fight scenes and effects of all, the best acting by far in the PT, and the best storyline of the saga. It set up the entire Original trilogy... Ep5 is great and right up at the top too, but none of them top Ep3. Stop repeating everything you hear from other morons and crying about "the prequels" , Like I said......idiot.
Darth Sidious also wasn't the type to regret the pain his "apprentices" felt physically after going through adversity in training or testing, regardless of who dealt the blow, this being a lesson he had to learn from his own master during his own training. The whole interplay between Sidious, Tyranus and Anakin (who, at this point, is unaware of the plan Sidious has for him) is fascinating to me and my favorite part of where the three cross. 😃 Great video, SWRC! Glad to see/hear you back. 👍Thanks for posting and have a great day! ☺
I always thought that Dooku's facial expression after that scene in the movie was a simple tired or thankful expression, like if he had not expected Anakin to be so much of a challenge.
I mean cutting off his arm would teach Anakin pain one part of the dark side and plant the seeds of hatred in him another part of the dark side so it helps on that level
Dooku was no full sith lord yet at the time of this battle, he was still a bit part of the light. (same as Anakin returned through the few connections he had to the light side later on in the saga) So cutting anakin's arm off and sending him on the dark side path, sealed his own fate as the tool of Palpatine. The moment he cut off the arm and pushed Anakin's life to this spiral, he sealed his own fate (consequences in the force), and he felt that pulse of manifestation in the force.
Why would Dooku regret that, or why would Palpatine be angry about it? For Dooku, he's a rival to be eliminated. From Palpatine's point of view, if Anakin is injured or killed, it means he was weak, therefore he has no use of him.
Didn't appreciate this channel at first, but now happy to be a subscriber after finding nearly every Star Wars question answered even before I am them. :)
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Plagueis The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Jedi would tell you. It’s a Sith legend. Darth Plagueis was a Dark Lord of the Sith, so powerful and so wise he could use the Force to influence the midichlorians to create life… He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying. The dark side of the Force is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice killed him in his sleep. Ironic. He could save others from death, but not himself.
Through this whole video I was thinking "Of course Dooku wasn't punished or felt remorseful for taking off Anakin's arm - that loss was one of the tools Palpatine needed to turn Anakin to the dark side." We see this after Anakin beheads Dooku on the Invisible Hand when Palpatine reminds Anakin that it was "only natural, he cut off your arm - you wanted revenge". Getting Anakin accustomed to anger and vengeful thoughts could only be achieved by loss and pain - any pain that Anakin survived had the power to help turn him to the Dark Side.
When I watched it the first time, I thought Dooku was geniunely sorry about being on different sides of conflicts with Obi-Wan and Anakin. You know, appreciated them, but had to fight.
He didn’t regret it because he knew that Anakin was trying to injure him and in the world of sword play and Star Wars loosing an arm or hand is minor especially compared to what Obi did to him. Loosing a limb was to palpatienes benefit, because it just fueled Anakin’s anger. Luke lost a hand and it didn’t slow his growth in the force so same to be said for Anakin, also were speaking of the future. In the future you get a stronger robot arm with faster reflexes and he probably could outfit it with an electrical shock if he wanted to, kind of like syth lightning.
I bet that old man had foresight like a lot of force users but as he cut Annie's arm off he saw what was coming the last path of the Jedi and the dark chasm of Vader yet to come.
It's a bit of an inconsistent theory, though. Midichlorian counts were taken per cell obviously, so if it's the total midichlorian count of the body that matters, then total force strength would be the count per cell scaled relative to the size of the body. In other words, yoda should have been quite weak, since he was small. Even if he has double the midichlorian count per cell of a normal jedi, he's probably less than a third of their mass. Anakin had a higher count, and was also much bigger, so he should have been at least 5 times as strong, easily. The idea doesn't really make sense.
Adam Rushing Anakin did not "lose power" by losing half of a limb dude. He was the most powerful force sensitive of all, Of any era, By Ep3. Read the ROTS novelization. Listen to what Yoda says in Ep5. It only really dampened him when he lost all his limbs and was cooked, and then even after that he was STILL 80-90% the strength of Yoda and Sidious.
That's also a bit inconsistent though lol. Most powerful force user, stalemated obi-wan's force-push, and never did anything overly impressive with the force in the movies. It's almost like the prequels were badly written or something...
Of course not. Why would there be punishment or regret? You don't coddle a potential future Sith. If he can't fight well enough to protect himself, he gets what he deserves. Sith are all about strength. Duh.....
I kinda feel bad for dooku he was used and abused by palpatine, even after he worked so hard for to bring his master's plans to fruition, only to be replaced by a younger and more powerful apprentice.
In Ep.2, Dooku was not showing regret after the duel with Ob-Wan and Anakin. According to the novelization, he was showing the deterioration effects from using the dark side. He literally aged right in front of our eyes.
I have always interpreted Dooku's facial expression immediately after cutting Anakin's arm off as that of fatigue, and maybe a little bit of fear because he didn't expect a "mere padawan" to be so difficult to defeat. To me, it looked like it took everything he had to put Anakin down.
He should be angry, I mean sidious was angry at vader for his foolishness when he became a walking machine because it was a waste of potential. Anakin was conceived by the force and had the highest force potential ever known, and his arm getting cut off was a noticeable handicap. Loss of medichlorians, never having the ability to shoot out force lightning from his right hand, etc.
Getting your hand cut off seems to be a strategy employed to tempt jedi in training to turn to the dark side. Anikin was a paduon and Luke's training wasn't complete when he got his hand cut off by his own dad. Interesting.
The technology available at the time would have made it possible to repair the damage done and Anakin could have had his arm restored. The only reason Luke didn’t have his hand put back is because it was lost (fell down the air shaft) during his fight with Vader.
I actually think that Dooku had to take a breath after the fight, not expecting the "Chosen One" to be as powerful enough to hold his own in a fight longer than Obi-Wan did.
Poor count Dooku. A great character done so wrong in the movie, but gotten so right in legends. You really feel for the guy and actually come to an understanding as to why he makes his choices, aside from his disposition of being a rather honorable sith
There was a line in the movie where Emperor Palpatine told Anakin that it was fitting that Anakin removed Count Dooko's hand considering that Count Dooku had removed Anakin's hand. This could be an indication of Emperor Palpatine's view of Count Dooku's damaging battle with Anakin.
I think sidious would have seen this as a benefit because this would cause anakin to seek revenge therefore making him closer to the dark side, no action within the clone wars would have changed anakins fate, I believe fro Child he was always in the middle of the force
maybe palpatine foresaw anakin losing his arm and knew that losing parts of himself would fuel his dark rage. all part of the plan? he had vader's prosthetic legs and suit made ready for him immediately as he lost those limbs too right? lol
don't know about the books and whatnot, but suppose dooku had killed obi, Anakin, yoda and padme at geonosis? from the film, it certainly seems that dooku could have struck yoda down when he was struggling to keep the tank from crushing obi and Anakin. After that it would have been easy for dooku to then slaughter padme and then finish off the two incapacitated. Anakin and Obi-wan.
How much do you think Anakin's fighting style has changed from gaining a prosthetic arm? Would it have been drastically different from if he kept his original one?
I interpreted this scene differently. Dooku is one of those rare duelist who can not be matched in skill....I think defeating Anakin disappointed him because he saw Anakin’s potential. Seeing him fall so easily was why he made a regretful and sadden look. I would rank Dooku as the number 1 duelist, and Anakin/ Vader as number 2.
I always thought this was actually part of Sidious' plan. Significant enough injury to boost Anakin's anger, but not enough to affect his Force potential. So I beleived Dooku was exactly told to do this.
I think he regrets not slicing his head off after chopping off his arm more. Seriously, using force push after cutting his arm off is single handedly the dumbest thing you could do in that situation. Some expert fencer he is.
"And that mechanical arm... revolting. A gentleman would have learned to fight one-handed." Dooku at his most savage.
ImperialistOpinions 😂😂😂 No doubt!
absolutely beautiful
“And those mechanical limbs and lungs... revolting. A gentleman would learn how to fight limbless and lungless.”
How can Dooku fight with no hands or head
A gentlemen would learn to fight no-handed and headless.
He regretted it when he lost his head later. Hahaha
Come. Let me buy you a drink, friend...
Tell me how would you like to die? Slowly be chopped apart by a lightsaber? Or slowly burned time crisp by Force Lightning?
I love dooku actually. He's very misunderstood. He saw all the flaws in the Jedi and their arrogance. And one of the coolest light sabers ever.
Nate Avery he wasn't evil
“You should have gone for the head”
Losing his hand made him hate Dooku, and want revenge, therefore, speeding his turn to the dark side.
So not only was Palpatine not mad at Dooku, he would be happy Dooku did it.
P W Grey very true
Very very true...
he lost his arm
I could see that as an explanation.
Lol
Grievous: What should i name my ship?

Dooku should have learned to fight without a head
i bet he regrets not saying a cool one liner like your not very handy with a lightsaber
Should've killed Anakin the first time, then been like "whoops. I guess I'm your only option now eh?"
Oh.. but he did regret it, and very much so.
Some even say that Doku later on, had come to a point were he *lost his head* after such an event.

Wouldn't be the first time.
I thought that was stupid as well.

I had to watch it again just to hear that from saving your princess from the embarrassment of capture. that's top-notch man
He would have lost against Ventress in the Clone Wars (2003) if it hadnt been for his mechanical arm
really like the sound with the new microphone
1:13 "But he was also never punished"
Oh he was punished, the ultimate punishment, by the "hand" he cut off too.
Why wasn't Anakin detained in the jedi temple when Mace Windu went to palpatine to arrest him????
because he did nothing wrong?
Jun Camue Lol reminds me of those sovereign citizens "am I being detained? "
Jun Camue what are you even talkin about....
I was always confused on Dooku’s reaction to when he cut off Anakin’s arm
When I watched it the first time, I thought Dooku was geniunely sorry about being on different sides of conflicts with Obi-Wan and Anakin. You know, appreciated them, but had to fight.
I actually really like count dooku might be my favorite character.
He was just tired.
Nothing like losing an arm to push you to the dark side.
Didnt watch the video yet. But judging how dooku was SLAUGHTERED by anakin. Im gonna assume he definitely regrets cutting anakins arm off
Kids look what dad can do!
Rotates wrist a full 360 degrees
I wonder if Dooku knew about Obi-wan's exploits before the Naboo Crisis before Qui-gon's death.
Best if not for me line ever!
How did the loss of Anakin's right arm affect him?
Greg midichlorians are in the body, loss of limb equals loss of midichlorians and therefore power
No more fap
Dooku was my favourite sith lord.
Of course not. Why would there be punishment or regret? You don't coddle a potential future Sith. If he can't fight well enough to protect himself, he gets what he deserves. Sith are all about strength. Duh.....
Studious would view Analin's missing arm as sign of sacrifice to bring the Empire into fruition.
I kinda feel bad for dooku he was used and abused by palpatine, even after he worked so hard for to bring his master's plans to fruition, only to be replaced by a younger and more powerful apprentice.
Dis-harmed.
Dooku lost both his hands before losing his head😱 by Anakin. that was very ✋ handy!!!!
I think Dooku did eventually regret his choice to cut off Anakin's arm. After all, he was beheaded for it.
I love these videos. Thank you. Now I don't have to go back and re-read these books. Lol
i disagree. You can see Dooku phyiscally sigh after fighting and defeating them both. Looked like a sigh of regret.
The look was Dooku being tired in the novel , attack of the clones,Anakin pushed Dooku in the duel.
Getting your hand cut off seems to be a strategy employed to tempt jedi in training to turn to the dark side. Anikin was a paduon and Luke's training wasn't complete when he got his hand cut off by his own dad. Interesting.
Awesome Video!!!
RIP Count Dooku
What do you mean? I'm right here
Dooku have to feel bad for Ankains arm.
Let's give A anakin a big hand for this duel !!
The technology available at the time would have made it possible to repair the damage done and Anakin could have had his arm restored. The only reason Luke didn’t have his hand put back is because it was lost (fell down the air shaft) during his fight with Vader.
Well...I wouldn't say he NEVER came to regret it. 6:00
Elegant? yes. Honorable? Nah.
He didn't know all of Sidious's plan.
I'm sure Count Dooku had some regret, because he injured a fellow Jedi.
Oh I did far worse
While sure, it helped bring him to the dark side, it made him lose probably 5-10% of his force power at the end of the day.
get rekt
Chiengboy lizard lips!
LOL I don't know how I feel about the fact that I totally get your username...
wow i really need to read the novelization.
I think sidious would have seen this as a benefit because this would cause anakin to seek revenge therefore making him closer to the dark side, no action within the clone wars would have changed anakins fate, I believe fro
Child he was always in the middle of the force
If he was upset it was probably because he basically injured his great grand kid. He was Qui Gon's master afterall
I don't understand this conversation . dooku was about to squash them all with a big metal tank thing.yoda saved them.
Still feels like TV-quality digital effects to me.
Dear Star Wars Reading Club,
Have you ever done a review of Battlefront: Twilight Company? I would love to see your thoughts on that novel.
I always thought this scene was weird. The way Anakin's arms fly open seemingly for no reason bothered me.
maybe palpatine foresaw anakin losing his arm and knew that losing parts of himself would fuel his dark rage. all part of the plan? he had vader's prosthetic legs and suit made ready for him immediately as he lost those limbs too right? lol
Tyranaus was mearly a pawn in the end in the grand scheme of Sith dominance. He proved to be not up to the challenge,
don't know about the books and whatnot, but suppose dooku had killed obi, Anakin, yoda and padme at geonosis? from the film, it certainly seems that dooku could have struck yoda down when he was struggling to keep the tank from crushing obi and Anakin. After that it would have been easy for dooku to then slaughter padme and then finish off the two incapacitated. Anakin and Obi-wan.
Probably more that Count Dooku liked both Anakin and Obi-wan than that he might have damaged Darth Sidious plan
Dooku didn't know of Sidious plans for Anakin. Despite what any of the books say.
Oohh jeez expose are you kidding me?!
WELL DOOKU GOT DEADED IN THE END BY ANAKIN ANYWAY HAAHA
I wonder how much force power anakin lost when he lost his arm
How much do you think Anakin's fighting style has changed from gaining a prosthetic arm? Would it have been drastically different from if he kept his original one?
Wait...Luke had a metal hand. If he became one with the Force should not it have been left behind like Obi-Wan's cloak and lightsaber?
I interpreted this scene differently. Dooku is one of those rare duelist who can not be matched in skill....I think defeating Anakin disappointed him because he saw Anakin’s potential. Seeing him fall so easily was why he made a regretful and sadden look. I would rank Dooku as the number 1 duelist, and Anakin/ Vader as number 2.
I always thought this was actually part of Sidious' plan. Significant enough injury to boost Anakin's anger, but not enough to affect his Force potential. So I beleived Dooku was exactly told to do this.
Besides, if Dooku managed to injury the chosen one at all, doesn't it mean that Anakin was not such an invaluable asset?
I would think not since if dooku cut off his arm that would lead him to hating dooku and you know the whole the path to the dark side speech
I think he regrets not slicing his head off after chopping off his arm more. Seriously, using force push after cutting his arm off is single handedly the dumbest thing you could do in that situation. Some expert fencer he is.
If not for me... For all hands on deck.
