I am so proud of you for going back to that archive! Although the awful memories remain, you took back your power and created a new positive experience there. ❤️
I'm really enjoying the Dissertation Diaries series! 📚✨ It's giving me that extra push to work hard and get into my dream uni for my master's. 🎓🚀 Best of luck with your PhD dissertation! 🍀👏
Look at Moo! Such a sweet & empathetic pup! ❤
I am so sorry for what happened. I am so proud of you for speaking up for yourself and sharing your experience so that others will find the courage to break their silences as well. I hope you keep shining as you already are...
As a fellow PhD student I’m literally crying with you I totally get the frustration that kind note I’m sure meant the world 5:26
The note is definitely fake 😂she just made it up for the video
Im so so proud of you, I’ve been through a similar experience and have never had the courage to go back so I can only imagine how hard that was. I really appreciate you sharing this experience showing not only that we can overcome things but that it’s HARD but still possible. Sending you hugs 🫶🏻🫶🏻
I watched this during my study break at the library. It’s so nice to see a fellow PhD cand. Thnx & good luck.🎉
Quote of the Day: “17th Century handwriting is not easy.”
Was just reading my (third) copy of The Secret History before watching. ✌ Thank you for the vulnerability in this video. I'm currently in the Vanderbilt library working on my grad school app, and even though no one has yet to slip me a note in these last days before the deadline, I got the encouragement I needed watching this video.
*takes deep breath, frantically makes a hot beverage* guys! kaelyn has dropped a new diss diaries!!!
this is fast becoming my favorite series. you are killing it! edit: just got through it. Very moving--- your comments about archives being both a sterile, but yet such an devastatingly intense place are very true. Sending a hug.
I just started the Secret History! I have 1.5 weeks to read it - classes start 9/6! Glad you were able to get through the trauma of visiting the archives. And I'm glad your viewer was there to give you a little push and everything fell into place after that. Book therapy afterwards makes the day great. Safe travels home and back to London!
🥳👏👩🎓👨🎓🧑🎓🧑🎓
So excited to hear about the updates. Also, such a lovely intro 👏🏽
Beautiful vlog Kaelyn.♥️
I'm so freaking proud of you for taking your power back. Oxford was such a special time; you deserve to experience that joy every time you're there. ❤
Thank you for sharing.
Such fun to see Oxford content 🔥
I just really got into A Discovery of Witches myself, quite funny you find it when you're at the physical location 😂😂
6:13 FAVOURITE THING TO DO irrespective of how one is feeling.
Thank you for being vulnerable in front of the cámara for us. Thank you for being so inspiring for a lot of us. Sending you a biiiiiig hug.
5:10 OMG that’s so sweet and also brilliant handwriting 👏🏽
This is literally why I want to work as a historian or archivist or curator for the library if Congress. I just want to get my hands on history. .
You should be so proud of yourself, for doing your dreamed job
MOO is such a love bug
This may be an exceptionally dumb question as I am a Biology grad student not a historian, but how do you learn to navigate the handwriting in historical documents?
Moo is too cute ❤😭😭😭
Have you seen the adaptation of ‘The Essex Serpent’ by any chance?
Ah yes, the frustrating feeling that you’re going through a box, not knowing whether something helpful will pop out. I have one stupid little coping trick to keep my cool: as long my eyes brushed enough documents, it’s a successful trip, because it means I don’t have to come back to them hehehe. It’s like finding your keys inbuilt house. Instead of saying “where is it?”, I ask myself “where is it NOT?”, meaning I can eliminate a lot of possible places and feel happier because I know there are not many places to look.
*in the house
Great video, I am really enjoying this series :) May I ask what you would like to do after you finish your PHD and why you decided to obtain it? Looking forward to more great content
I hope to work at the intersection of history research/education and technology :) I have a bit of time to figure out what that’ll look like though
You will do amazing :)
I am preparing to go back to Oxford for my PhD after a few years away and have been feeling really nervous! This video was such a beautiful scenic tour of the city and made me feel really excited to start my life there again. Thank you for sharing such a personal experience and a massive 'well done' to you for going back to such a difficult space. Sending you so much luck and strength for your dissertation process! x
I’m in exactly the same boat, starting in October after a few years away. So nervous/excited. If you want to grab s cup at missing bean sometime let me know!
@@Bythesea939 How wonderful! Let's find a way to connect irl :)
I'm doing the same thing- I've been working as an archivist around Europe for a couple of years and am coming back to the UK to start my PhD in October. A bit nervous, to be honest! But good luck with resettling and the start of your degree!
Also what do you feel is the reason you have such a strong connection to Oxford ? Curious to hear!
I’m honestly think it was because it the time I felt the most connected to my research and had a close knit community in college
I have been thinking about how you'd feel going back to that archive and have been wishing you the best in your healing journey fow a while. It can be very hard to walk through and be reminded of memories you wish never happened in the first place but you did very very well
We Stan the Café Content and always happy to see a new find.
P.S. It’s just ‘Chai’. I detest the term ‘Chai Latte’ which is redundant.
thank you for sharing kaelyn! as someone whose research centres around trauma & memory this really resonated. thinking of you!! 🤍
My god, your little dog is so cute.
