This week on Only Leaving Footprints, join us as we explore Old Halls Creek, the site of the first payable gold find in WA in 1885. The town developed quickly as gold miners rushed to the area through the ports at Wyndham and Derby. Initially a booming township of canvas tents, it soon saw the construction of more substantial buildings. Now, only remnants of the town remain.
We stay at Mary Pool rest area where Jon loses something essential to caravan life, nearly driving Tracie to drink. Caroline Pool rest area was another interesting stop - whose grave is there? We also stop to view the impressive Giant Tree and plan to stay at this free rest area. However, bushfires were fast approaching, and the smoke was overwhelming, so we made the decision to move on to get some fresher air.
