I met Richard Lynch about a month before he died in 2012 at Chiller Con in NJ. I had him sign a poster for the tv movie "Vampire" from 1979 which is a great little film. I told him how much i liked it , told him i hoped he'd have a good weekend of signing pictures and meeting fans , and turned to leave...he grabbed my arm and said oh don't rush off let me tell you all about making that movie. He loved it since it had given him a chance to play a suave yet sinister romantic lead. He was super proud of it and sad it hadn't been turned into a tv series. He was a very nice and charming man. I was shocked when he died just a few weeks after meeting him. RIP

Oh my word. One of the most fascinating interviews I have ever seen. Amazing that Richard really loved his role in a STARSKY and Hutch episode. A certain classic show. Amazing to hear him as it is very rare to see this magnetic actor like this, so candid and open and expressive. In a world of overblown celebrities and a list nobodies Dick Lynch is a breath of fresh air. Rest in peace Sir. And your beloved Son.xx

One of my favorite actors, who reminds me of another favorite, Boris Karloff, in several ways. Both saw typecasting not as a burden, but as insurance, both, even though mainly known for villainous roles, had wide ranges, and a variety of roles, in all three acting media. They both gave the same energy and attention to detail in every performance, and both come off as warm, personable individuals offstage.

I see a comment or two mentioning that he looks scary. Whenever I hear things like this, I shake my head in sadness. Are we really so instantaneously judgmental that we have to label people who look different as creepy or predatory or molestery? Many great and wonderful people have a strange look to them, they can't do anything about that, that's just the card life dealt them. Thank goodness, this Richard Lynch guy took his burn deformity and made a career out of it. That's what you call self-acceptance and making lemonade when life gives you lemons. That's not just healthy but it's admirable. Very far from being creepy or bad in my opinion.

Philip Z, I agree with you. I find Richard's look extremely sexy. I notice that he has been burnt, but I see beautiful eyes, an amazing smile and loads of modesty and intelligence. All these young actors today have NOTHING on Mr. Lynch. If I had a choice to date Brad Pitt or Jon Hamm's or whoever......I would pursue Mr. Lynch. I do understand what you are saying and a lot of people see SURFACE. How sad. You sound like you have a great heart. Should be more people in the world like you. 🤗

Jersey Journal, Jersey City, NJ, Thursday, June 29, 1967; ACTOR IN REAL FIERY SCENE-A 27-year-old unemployed actor who splashed himself with gasoline and then turned himself into a human torch in Central Park was in critical condition today at Bellevue Hospital. Police said Richard Lynch, of Manhattan, was discovered yesterday when a passing motorist saw him running in flames across the grass at the Park's East Drive at 79th Street. Lynch had apparently taken a gasoline can to the park behind the Metropolitan Museum and set fire to himself, police said.

He said he liked "Vampire" the best of all his films and had his large painting of that over his toilet upstairs...(before he moved to Yucca Valley) we also worked on "Alligator II: The Mutation" although I wasn't in his scenes. Interesting man with "a certain" attitude only a few knew about.......I liked his steel blue eyes. Very clear dark intense blue...when he died 2012 (June) my heart broke. His body was donated to science...after his son Chris had died (too young) it broke his heart...........

One hundred percent agree!! Method acting became an annoying joke because a handful of people misrepresented and misused it. Richard nailed it when he called them, "self indulgent", perfect description. They took basic principles and pushed them to the point of absurdity. The Method done right is extraordinary.
